Salvation - Matters Arising
« on: March 04, 2008, 06:17 AM »

This topic has been created to address the various issues that have been raised from the discussion of the topic "Paula White: Without Walls or Without God?", found here: http://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-115214.0.html.

My primary concern in the discussion was the impression created by some other discussants that our salvation is works-related. While it appears that Analytical was able to bridge the gap between the various parties, I still find myself surprised by the fact that our expectations concerning the basic and most fundamental aspect of our faith was up for different interpretations.

Let's use this opportunity to discuss not only the elementary principles of the doctrines of Christ, but our daily walk with the Lord as well. How do we become Babes in Christ? How do we grow? How do we mature? What is the hallmark of maturity? What makes a good Christian? Infact, what makes you a Christian?

I'm trusting God that we will all learn one thing or the other from this topic.

Let me round this up by paraphrasing Paul's words in 1 Cor 14:26,40 - In this e-gathering, everyone has a word of instruction, a revelation, a prayer. Let everyone make their supply decently and in order that the Church may be edified.

Thanks Tayo-D for opening the thread so that these matters can be addressed under a more appropriate and wider topic.  Let's all feel free to share in this discussion.  Bring them on- the revelations, expositions, your experiences, etc for edification, direction and instruction in righteousness.

For clarity sake, the issues at stake as highlighted in the post above are:

  • How do we become Babes in Christ?
  • How do we grow? How do we mature?
  • What are the hallmarks of maturity or of a true believer?
  • What makes a good Christian? Infact, what makes you a Christian?
  • Is it once saved, always saved or can you lose your salvation?  How?
  • Is it possible that you have always believed, having been raised in a Christian home?
  • Others, as the discussion progresses.

I trust God that this will be a good avenue to discuss diverse issues concerning our salvation.

Bless y'all.

Q1. We become babes in Christ @ the point of salvation i.e. when you give your life to Christ & accept Him as your Lord & personal saviour, and renounce your sinful ways!

Q2. We grow (i believe) by reading the Bible and abiding by the injunctions therein  & praying everyday!!

Q3. Self denial, basically!!!

Q4. Selfless acts again!

Q5. You can lose your salvation by going back to your sinful ways. This is called BACK SLIDING in Christiandom!!

Q6. Nope! Not possible!! It takes a personal move . . . a personal confession with your own mouth!!! Even if your dad is Pastor Adeboye. Grin

Paul, who preached so much about faith also said ->

Col 1:24 ->  "In my flesh I complete what is lacking in Christ's afflictions, for the sake of his body, that is the Church."

I Cor. 9:27 -> "I chastise my body and bring it into subjection: lest perhaps when I have preached to others I myself should be castaway"

Romans 8:13 -> “For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body you will live”

Colossians 3:5 ->  “Put to death what is earthly in you: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry

Galatians 5:24 -> “And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires”

Would those who are not saved go to Limbo?
@mockfu
Let me give you a small assignment -> Please find out the official (not conspiracy theories or empty conjectures) Catholic teaching (before Benedict XVI revised it) about the fate of children who die unbaptized.

When you find it, paste it on any of the threads for me.

Let me give u a hint -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limbo
