NEW YORK - Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who took office with the vow "Day One, Everything Changes," started Tuesday with his outlook so changed that many wondered if he could remain in power. An aide reportedly told the New York Times that Spitzer was weighing a possible resignation. The first-term Democrat was caught on a federal wiretap arranging to meet a prostitute from a call-girl business, according to a law enforcement official who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the investigation is still going on http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23572671#storyContinued

Can someone explain to me why do politicians always go to the podium with their wives standing by their side after a scandal?
I still think this guy was set up. couple months ago he was defiant on trying to give illegal immigrants valid ID in NYC. a month latter he was exposed in a scandal. that was just my opinion

It is called dedication, loyalty and pure love. The damage is already done; therefore, it's good at least for their children to know that when daddy made a big mistake, mummy was still behind him (another way to save the family).
I see nothing wrong with it at all. Human being will make mistake, but we must also learn how to forgive, forget and spread the love! I truly admire her courage and dedication to still be standing publicly next to this fool.
I WISH THEM WELL!

Spitzer was one of the most irritating prosecutors whose self-promotion cost billions of dollars in shareholder value. He forced Maurice Greenberg to resign, yet, the charges in question virtually whittled away. I'm sure folks at Wall Street will feel a sense of schadenfreude. He is probably holding on to his job as a bargaining chip to save himself from prosecution. As for his wife, such is the manner of the wives of female politicians.I have seen worse, one wife stood by her husband as he disclosed his gay affairs. However, maybe the wife was backing him because she felt a sense of guilt. He obviously wasn't getting any from the wife,so he had to pay $4k for an hour just to get some.

@Big B1 I blame the wife. If an intelligent man like Spitzer,in such a role, felt compelled to pay that much to a hooker, its obvious the wife wasn't performing her wifely duties. One look at her,you will realise she is asexual.Abeg, she deserves the humiliation.

What exactly could he be getting for 4k? Lmao.
The world's best blowjob shouldnt even be half that amount
It most likely had to be more of hush money or he has a twisted fetish that required that amount for "materials".

I heard the standard rate those hookers charge is $5,500 an hour,so if anything,Spitzer got a discount. It can't be hush money, what is $4k to a hooker that earns that much? Hush money usually starts in the tens of thousands especially for someone in his position. Even Okonji-Iweala's husband was reported to have paid at least $60,000 in hush money.

One look at her,you will realise she is asexual.Abeg, she deserves the humiliation. @4 Play: Absolutely not fair to only blame the wife for this mess. Some men (most men) just want to knock down anything that moves; that is just the way men are naturally built. This is also why I continue to advise chicks in general to never let go; you've got to keep it tight, keep it golly and nicely entertain your man regularly. Or else you will be next to your man looking stupid on the national TV, while he asks for forgiveness for knocking down a 4000 dollars an hour hooker! The sad part of this story is the fact that the incident occurred a day before valentine's day. There is nothing better than getting a valentine's day blow job from your wife after an incredible night with a hot hooker! What a shame!

This is also why it pays to be a governor in Nigeria and not in United States. This incident is "by the way" in Nigerian society.
Please, do not get it twisted, I do not condone this type of behaviour.

That will be the end of the sorry. why is Cliton not standing behind this man now? she already won NYC and there is no use for this gov. Tony Roscoe was linked to Obama, and the media jumped all over the case, why are they not calling Cliton to speak to this dispeakable act?

Correction: he hasn't stepped down yet! David Paterson: New York's first black governor in waiting? Tue Mar 11, 12:11 PM ET NEW YORK (AFP) - If Eliot Spitzer succumbs to pressure to resign over a sex scandal, New York would get its first black governor, and the United States its first blind governor, in the shape of David Paterson. Paterson, 53, currently serving as Spitzer's deputy in the role of lieutenant governor of New York, was born in New York City and went on to study law before joining the prosecutor's office in the borough of Queens. In 1985 he was elected to represent Harlem in New York's state senate, working his way up to minority leader in 2002, where he has introduced legislation on stem cell research, alternative energy and domestic violence. His father Basil Paterson, was the first black secretary of state of New York and vice-chair of the national Democratic Party. He lives in Harlem with his wife and two children. Although Spitzer made it clear on Monday he did not intend to step down immediately, labeling the prostitution scandal "a private matter," he has come under mounting pressure from Republican circles and the media to quit. http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080311/pl_afp/uspoliticsnewyorkgovernorprostitutionpaterson

he should not give in to pressure and stand up like a man and fight this to the maximum limit.

Absolutely yes, it is a big deal. These are leaders, these are the folks that make the laws, these are the folks that control daily activities of the nation. Absolutely, one's integrity (public or private) plays a vital part in being selected to lead.
How do you expect to trust a man that betrays his family?

America we salute you! Meanwhile in far away Nigeria, governors use state funds to arrange ashawos (I mean female University entertainers) for other visiting governors whenever any major events are being held in their states. I think Ashawo services is even covered in the states' budgets. Sadly though, I believe too much emphasis is placed on prostitution in America than in most countries. Otherwise, how can one explain paying about $4,000 for a session. Na wetin them dey do? I bet $4,000 could have netted enough Uniben girls to cover the 36 governors back in Ibori's or Lucky's days.
