Didn't know there many people like me. Love mine so much. Very faithfull and obedient. Been loyal for two years. Her name's "OLA". I have a power on password for my laptop. Today I think one key didn't function so the password didn't work. I almost went bezerk. When  she makes me enough to buy a car I am definitely going to retire her.

@hansibone

I dey surprised say your Zinox never spoil, they have a bad track record.

Sha, as for me, I'm manging with my own Omatek laptop, I don't believe it will survive the year, but hopefully I will either buy an Alienware or steal one (whicheva comes first). I love computers especially other people's own (because mine is not all that great but it tries). At least, it's nice to know that NIgeria has computer companies like Zinox and Omatek.

No, I don't love my computer. It's merely a tool, a means to an end.

If it went bust, I'll either get it fixed, or if not repairable, stick it in the garbage, and get a new one.

As for me and myself I would love my PC, dt is a standard, and as for those who don't love their systems they have a problem adapting.

I love my lap top. I felt like crying  Cry when my first laptop crashed, I didn't throw it away, it's still in my achives. I learnt a lot with it, it practically thought me all the computer knowledge I have today.
My new lappy is my companion and *friend*. I enjoy working with it and I can stay on it all week long without feeling bored.

If it went bust, I'll either get it fixed, or if not repairable, stick it in the garbage, and get a new one.

you have a major point there. . .theres a dead ibm in the house somewher and my old toshiba( which my wife now uses has reverted to guniea pig for all the cracks/keygens/patches/dodgy software downloads before deployment to my current machine.

i can't say i love my computer(there's alwayts a better model out there), but i definetely love using it. i am constantly searching for ways to improve/augument its performance, and the performance of applications i use.

i will always try something, just to see if it will enhance my  computing experience.

a few trips down the lane

i have begun downloading albumart from albumart.org, so when music plays in winamp, the artist's image appears in the skin.imagine downloading two hundred jpgs, having to rename each to folder before putting into the artist folder. lupas rename to the rescue. using a two pane explorer replacement, i simply copy the jpgs to each folder, then rename all at once using lupas rename- which in  my opinion is the best file and folder renamer tool out there. i was using SCR, migrated to Pfrank, but i couldn't get the performance i wanted- so i took a visit to nonags .com, (an ultra cool freeware site, and found lupas rename there)

i have this excel addin password.xla. what this does is it breaks the protections of protected worksheets in excel. in my old system, it worked with excel 2003, and with 2007. in my current system it refused to run in excel 2007 - something to do with the vba project( apparently irt was written in an excel 5.0 workbook)  and excel 2007 has no backwards compatibilty. what did i do - i installed excel xp as a standalone app, alonside office 2007. then configured password.xla to run in excel.bad idea. it completely fked up my  excel installation. i uninstalled excel xp. but excel 2007 was fked. all attempts to repair the installation failed.this was actually the last straw that made me get rid of vista.

now 2 months later, i suddenly decide to try again. i  figure that i can maybe decompile password.xla, and  save it as a macro. unfortunatley, its protected, but what do you know- i find a diff app.vba decompiler, which decompiles and recompiles excel addins to formats compliant with the existing version. i used the app and voila! my password.xla is running on excel 2007

yesterday, i downloaded several ruby scripts to use as sketchup plugins. if u use sketchup, you will find that some plugins really improve your work.of course, the trouble with plugins(just like lsps ) in autocad is that it is best you install them one by one, to ensure none will cause problems. with 50 + plugins - beans? so i install all at once ( not complicated in sketchup, just copy them to your plugins folder) i start up sketchup and there are multiple error messages. so i have to start going through them one by one, filtering the plugins. very tedious, but eventually, thery're all fixed) and i got  a lot more .i now have a context menu - among other things.

sometimes, tweaks or apps can slow down my system.

everyonce in a while, i get hold of an app that i prefer to start vwith windows. some apps will not do that.eg process explorer, which i use as a taskmanager replacement. one day, i discovered the startup folder in th programs menu. i put a shoortcut to process explore there and voila! process explorer starts with windows. but what do you know, it always starts in a normal window. i'd prefer if it starts invisibly.then one day just recently , i was fooling with a shortcut - there are so many things you can do with shortcuts eg change their icons - when i saw the field run minimized, run maximized, run in normal window.the shortcut was set to run in normal window. i changed this tto run minimized, and voila(again) process explorer now starts with mindows invisibly. the list of tweaks can go on and on. . .

just a minute a go i installed an autocad addin drawing cleanup utility. it refused to run- i couldn't fu=igure out why - then i realized - it's altered some system variables, and thus i need to restart windows to run it. i did that and presto new tool to (hopefully) improve my work

its funny, there's alm ost nothing that u can't get from the net. if you suddenly decide that your system tray is too crowded, for instance, you can just googlr tweak stystem tray, and find an app that can hide objects in the tray.

my 'computer' is constantly changing

this is my current config

2.0ghz core 2 duo
2gb ram( ni actually wanted to upgrade to 3gb - i'd assumed the laptop came with 4 dimm slots buts its just two and 2gb ram doesn't appear to be locally available
hard drive
160gb - internal
80gb external (portable) - for all the installers files of my software(games, applications, utilities, desktop bling bling, multimedia applications
120gb external (portable) - for all my media - music, videos, professional literature, great religious media
320 gb external (desktop) - as a backup( that stays at home) all my files and legacy versions of my software ( eg autocad 2006, 2007,inventor 10, 11 ) are backed up to this .
256mb video card (njvidia quadro)

these days i somtiems wish i had bought the laptop with a 4ogb drive,512mb ram,  with the processor and videocard maxed out(512mb 3500 card, 2.4ghz processor) i could have bought a sata hard drive and 2gb of ram at a cheaper price and installed those myseld .oh well - buyer's remorse
