Some god-believers claim they are in direct communication with their god(s). This is nothing new, in fact. The page of the bible are full of instance where god speaks to his favourites, either commanding them to commit gross barbarism or else just dishing out inane commandments and injunctions. The modern era is no different; we have a plethera of prophets today who claim to be in a hotline with god. But should we believe these claim? How does one know god is speaking to one. Is it via audible dialogue, vision, dreams, written text, hallucinations? How would you distincguish god's words from those of non-gods? If God spoke to you and told you to sacrifice your first born son would you accept. Or would you refuse to believe it was God on the basis that God does not condone human sacrifice? What if he spoke to you and told you to commit mass genocide, say for example to wipe out the entire population of Canaan would you accept that it was the voice of God. Is a crime still a crime if it has been ordered directly from God or is criminality a fixed standard by which we can judge whether a message comes from God or not.
Another interesting question is, How many of us believe that God told George Bush to invade Iraq. I don't believe that he was lying. I do believe he heard voices that told him, however the question in my mind was whether or not it was God.
What exactly is the difference between a schizophrenic speaking to God and a prophet speaking to God: another interesting question.

God speaks to people even today. Whatever he speaks or tell people to do will be in harmony with his nature. The premise that God will ask his creatures to do the very things that are against his nature and commandment contradicts perfection which is an instrinsic attribute of God. Sin is disobedience to the laws of God and God is the living origin of these laws. It is impossible for God to contradict his own laws or to be more precise, it is impossible for God to contradict himself. Thus God cannot sin since it is against his nature and neither can God ask human beings to sin. Thus it is impossible for God to tell his creatures to sacrifice their sons, commit mass sucide etc. Whenever people claim that God told them to commit evil acts, that person or persons is getting the inspiration for such monstrosities from evil sources. It is indeed pathetic that ascribing evil activities to God has found its way even to the fundamental thoughts of many of tthe world religions. The nature of the fruit is determined by the nature of the seed sown. Thus messages from God will manifest in activities that vibrates in love and justice, such messages will create human beings that love their neighbours and not those that want to exterminate any person who disagrees with their version of religious reality. "By their fruits you shall know them" Any teaching that creates followers that want to harm in word, thoughts, motives or deeds those who are of a different religious persuation is either not from God or it has been distorted.
To be called by God as his servant is quite different from the experience of a schizophrenic or somebody under the effect of psychedelic drugs. A called servant of God has a spiritual antennae that allows the blessed one to recieve consciously the power and message of God and also has the ability to transmute such messages to the brain without much distortion. The level of interference as the recieved message or power moves from the spirit to the brain depends on the spiritual maturity of the called one and that varies among all servants of God.Those who are not called by God can hear voices, see visions etc but these voices or visions is not from God. It can be as a result of pertubation in the brain signalling processes due to hallucinogenic drugs, suggestion, autosuggestion, self hypnosis, religious frenzy or in some cases due to the altered blood radiations. Such altered blood radiations allows an alien spirit to influence temporaly or permanently the brain of the person involved, There are hundreds of variations and these statements are just general. Specific details can be given for each individual case. Inspite of the variations and atimes the compexities, one thing is certain, any vision, message, action etc that is inspired by God cannot contradict the commandments of God. If such a contradition exists, then the message is not from God even if the persons involved are the so called "Men of God".

Nope this is simply anecdotal evidence. Who wrote the book of numbers? If that scenario did indeed happen, who were the witnesses? For all I know it could simply have been a man hallucinating. How do we know an historical Balaam existed? If the bible is full of inconsistency, parables, passed down stories, allegory and hearsay, What can it be concluded to be? |

Thanks for the biblical citations. However, they have not in my view answered the questions raised. It only reported an incidence between Balaam, his donkey or ass and an angel of the Lord. Their is no evidence in the citations to verify that claim. First, what language did the ass spoke? In your answer,you said that the ass spoke in Balaam`s language. Please what is the name of the human language that Balaam and the donkey spoke? What evidence do you have to show that this story is literal and not allegorical? Did this encounter take place physically or spiritually?
Humans beings should get used to the fact that quotations from sacred books do not prove the validity or non-validity of such quotations. To provide validity, an independent spiritual or material evidence that is reproducible need to be provided. In this case, their is no repetation of this story taken literally in modern times. What is true is always reproducible and it can be observed atleast in more than one occasion in different places, eras and generations. Presently their is no evidence of a donkey anywhere in the world speaking like a human or verbalizing a human language. It is impossible for a donkey to speak a human language, the variation in the brain physiology of donkey and humans is too diverse that it cannot under any circumstances be breached. If any person thinks that such is possible, then let them reproduce Balaams story. Ignorance of the laws of God makes people to believe that impossible things are possible and possible things are impossible.

one thing is ask people, when they ask me if God speaks to me? obviously they tell me they don't hear God speak to them, i ask them "Do you hear the devil?"at the end of it all we come to find out that everyone hears the devils, but sadly very few hear God. evryone hears the devil, telling them to do this or that, nudging them towards that girl to rape her, or more simpler telling them to just tale a bite out of the meat or take a little of the money. the devil speak to our minds, and we hear him constantly and we try to resists his temtations as christians, but we fail to hear God's encouragements that he speaks to our heart and to hear is voice telling us what to do, where to go, how to act. Soi'll tell you if you can hear the Devil, then you can hear God, because the will both Speak into your Heart, but it depends on you, who yuo decide to listen to. we are ususally so engrossed trying not to hear the devil we fail to realise that God is speaking and wants us to listen to him, so since we don't hear him we conclude he is not talking. but he is talking we are the ones who usually fail to listen toi him. Just because you can't hear him does not mean he is not talking, just because you can't see him does not mean he is not there.

You don't even need to be a pastor before you hear from God. God is always speaking just that we are too occupied to hear him when He speaks. |

Some claim that God speaks to them everyday but i can't never believe such stories, i believe they hear the voices of demons.The only way God speaks to us today is only through His word.
Hello Elizabetha, it's true that God speaks to His people through His word, but He also communicate in other ways, such as: through His still small voice, through words of prophecy from our Spiritual Leaders, deep impression, etc. His method of communication with men isn't stereotype. So, He could use any means. . . .and not only through His word. |

Your assertion that with God all things are possible is wrong in the context of the topic. It is impossible for an animal to speak a human language. I will remind you that only those things which are according to the will of God or his nature is possible with God. Anything that is not in harmony with the ways or the will of God is impossible. For instance it is impossible for God to commit evil. It is impossible for God to go against the ten commandments. It is impossible for God to be unjust. It is impossible for God to be jealous, Indeed one can write a book of several volumes to show that everything that contradicts the nature of God is impossible for God.

And how exactly does a donkey speaking a human language contradict the nature of God (and not the nature of the donkey)?
Is it beyond the reach of the nature and/or power of God to change the nature of his creations if only momentarily?
NB - I'm saying this assuming that you acknowledge a difference between the nature of God and the nature of his creation(s). Otherwise there's a whole new discussion entirely.

God cannot change the nature of his creations because he created them out of all knowing. And what came out of all knowing needs no change or improvement even for a second. If it were possible, then those creations didnot come from an all knowing God in the first place. Thus for instance God originally made mango to be mango. It is impossible for God to change Mango to Banana. It is impossible to convert stones to bread. It is impossible for a monkey to become a human being or vice versa. Humans are able to speak the human language because God originally designed the human brain to have that capability. The brain of a donkey was not originally designed by God to have the capabiltity to communicate in a human language.Therefore the donkey brain in its design by God does not have the complexity and sophistication required to produce a human language. Besides, the user of the donkeys brain is an animal soul and the user of the human brain is a human spirit. Thus with respect to the physical body or the brain to be precise, the occupants are completely two different creations of God, one is a human spirit, the other an animal soul. Both biochemically and physiologically, the difference between a human brain and a donkey brain is far wide apart.

My brother it does not cost God anything to just open a mouth of a donkey to speak a human language.
