It is a pity that many would spout the little that they know and call it knowledge especially when the higher beings they claim to be should know that pure knowledge is idiocy compared to that which is commonly known - at east amongst the wise - as the higher wisdom to which the appellate, "of God" is usually added. What behoves me most is that they who know to these heights allow themselves to be dragged down to these unfortunate depths by those who know less than they! My father's advice would hold here: "If you argue with a fool, Kapten, no one will know who the fool is", though I am most certain he did not add the name Kapten or his like when he said it, still a word is enough for the wise! Masonry began in Egypt, some will have it, though it was not called this in its conception and the rules that pertain have changed over time. It began in a time when builders of monuments felt the need to grade each other to effect the building of monuments that may take years, and in some instances, decades to complete. When Europe advanced to the age when masonry (stones), began to be used for buildings, this organising required the grading for recognising builders of different abilities which enabled the west of Europe to build its Cathedrals and Churches which woud not have been built without such greater organising of its builders. see Operative MasonryIn time, Masonry developed into Speculative Masonry having identified its contribution to nation building, with an entry mason being Known as an APPRENTICE. The next two grades are FELLOW-CRAFT and MASTER. The idea was to bring learning to those who would be involved in building not only cathedrals but nations, with masonry being the guiding light for the transformation of the base human being into a more enlightened being which is done by ensuring people do not live on bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God - which I will say means "that brings forth good fruit". Of course people who 'see' would know that this involves acquiring the knowledge of that which is good and that which is evil and differentiating betwixt the two. And perceptive people who are conversant with the Bread will be aware that in the first slice of that Bread, is it written that "On the day that thou eatest, thou shalt surely die!" And for fear of that death, people refrain from acquiring knowlegde! I will have it wondered that if it is true that a person shall die before they be born again, then why the fear of 'death' that the Churches promote? Anyway, much has been said in this thread for those who have any interest even more than is allowed as expressed in the Lecture of the Grades.: I, A. B., in the presence of the Great Architect of the Universe, and of this worthy worshipful, and warranted Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons, regularly assembled and properly dedicated, of my own free will and accord, do hereby and hereon sincerely and solemnly promise and swear, I will always hele, conceal, and never reveal any part or parts, point or points, of the secrets or mysteries of or belonging to Free and Accepted Masons in Masonry, which may heretofore have been known by me or shall now or at any future period be communicated to me, unless it be to a trusted and lawful Brother, or Brothers, and not even to him or them until after due trial, strict examination, or sure information from a well-known Brother that he or they are worthy of that confidence, or in the body of a just, perfect, and regular Lodge of ancient Freemasons. I further solemnly promise that I will not write those secrets, indite, carve, mark, engrave, or otherwise them delineate, or cause or suffer it to be done by others, if in my power to prevent it, on anything movable or immovable under the canopy of Heaven, whereby or whereon any letter, character, or figure, or the least trace of a letter, character, or figure, may become legible, or intelligible to myself or any one in the world, so that our secret arts and hidden mysteries may improperly become known through my unworthiness. These several points I solemnly swear to observe, without evasion, equivocation, or mental reservation of any kind, under no less a penalty, on the violation of any of them, than that of having my throat cut across, my tongue torn from its root and my body buried in the rough sands of the sea whence the tide doth wash twice in the course of a natural day or the more effective punishment of being branded as a willfully perjured individual, void of all moral worth, and totally unfit to be received into this worshipful Lodge, or any other warranted Lodge, or society of men who prize honour and virtue above the external advantages of rank and fortune. So help me God, and keep me steadfast in this my Great and Solemn Obligation of an Entered Apprentice Freemason. It is not for everyone, though we find that is due to the fact that the majority will not do the work that enables them to enter in easily through the eye of a needle, hence its cultishness. After all, some are swines, which is why one must give one's pearls due regard, "least they be trampled upon"! (Kapten, do recall!). Beneath I post the commandments of Speculative Masonry. while elsewhere I shall post the Morals and Dogma of Masters for those who would get their heads out of the ignorance they have been convinced Masonry is about! Masonry has its decalogue, which is a law to its Initiates. These are its Ten Commandments:
I. ⊕∴ God is the Eternal, Omnipotent, Immutable WISDOM and Supreme INTELLIGENCE and Exhaustless LOVE. Thou shalt adore, revere, and love Him! Thou shalt honor Him by practising the virtues!
II. ○∴ Thy religion shall be, to do good because it is a pleasure to thee, and not merely because it is a duty. That thou mayest become the friend of the wise man, thou shalt obey his precepts! Thy soul is immortal! Thou shalt do nothing to degrade it!
III. ⊕∴ Thou shalt unceasingly war against vice! Thou shalt not do unto others that which thou wouldst not wish them to do unto thee! Thou shalt be submissive to thy fortunes, and keep burning the light of wisdom!
IV. ○∴ Thou shalt honor thy parents! Thou shalt pay respect and homage to the aged! Thou shalt instruct the young! Thou shalt protect and defend infancy and innocence!
V. ⊕∴ Thou shalt cherish thy wife and thy children! Thou shalt love thy country, and obey its laws!
VI. ○∴ Thy friend shall be to thee a second self! Misfortune shall not estrange thee from him! Thou shalt do for his memory whatever thou wouldst do for him, if he were living!
VII. ⊕∴ Thou shalt avoid and flee from insincere friendships! Thou shalt in everything refrain from excess.Thou shalt fear to be the cause of a stain on thy memory!
VIII. ○∴ Thou shalt allow no passions to become thy master! Thou shalt make the passions of others profitable lessons to thyself! Thou shalt be indulgent to error!
IX. ⊕∴ Thou shalt hear much: Thou shalt speak little: Thou shalt act well! Thou shalt forget injuries! Thou shalt render good for evil! Thou shalt not misuse either thy strength or thy superiority!
X. ○∴ Thou shalt study to know men; that thereby thou mayest learn to know thyself! Thou shalt ever seek after virtue! Thou shalt be just! Thou shalt avoid idleness!
But the great commandment of Masonry is this: "A new commandment give I unto you: that ye love one another! He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, remaineth still in the darkness."As to you Kapten, and other Masons on here, I extend the right foot, placing the inside of mine against yours, and extend my arms around your back in embrace so that our breasts and our cheeks touch. And with my mouth by your ear, I whisper, Mah-hah bone

@Kapten. You are doing a wonderful job in elevating the level of discussion and providing information that will be extremely beneficial to the silent majority of sensible people following this topic.
Since returning to Nigeria a few years ago, I have been led to the belief that silence is the best answer to the questions of fools. Experience has shown that, unfortunately, those who speak loudest tend to be those who know least. However, your unwavering patience in parrying a great deal of the nonsense that has been thrown at you reminds me of the quote: "Fools live to regret their words, wise men to regret their silence".
Your responses have reignited my interest in the practice of masonry and I am now more encouraged than ever to do what I can to educate those who would benefit greatly, both intellectually and spiritually, by becoming acquainted with the Craft.
Thank you and please do not give up.

Masonry began in Egypt, some will have it, though it was not called this in its conception and the rules that pertain have changed over time. Says who? Nobody knows where or when Freemasonry began. There are many theories that hold just as much water as the Egyptian connection. But all are just that - theories. Masonry has its decalogue, which is a law to its Initiates. These are its Ten Commandments:
Freemasonry does not have a Ten Commandments. It is not a religion. It does not tell a man how to live but offers the suggestion that a moral life is a good one. You may post whatever literature you like, but if you do, realise that all you are posting is opinion. No one man can write a book and say "This is what Freemasonry is about". No one man has the authority to speak for Freemasonry.

Says who? Nobody knows where or when Freemasonry began. There are many theories that hold just as much water as the Egyptian connection. But all are just that - theories. Did I not say? I beg your pardon, Bastage. It is true that my theories hold as much water, and even less, I would say. Some people have written whole books on the topic, I haven't, and they all present different facts. It is why I referenced with "some will have it", do note; If anyone believes anything I say, it means they assume my opinion is the only valid one, and could not have read this thread from the beginning to see how many differing opinions there are. (ta for the elevation to theory, by the way!) Understanding is the tool of the mind, some agree. It obscures the insight only when it claims that the understanding it conveys is the only kind there is. And Masonry is, if nothing else saying, build, or at least, try to be a builder. To which the first step is, "seek, so you will understand", which does require effort. By the way, the one thing that degenerates Masonry is the argument over history. Masons understand why it is that God is not discussed when the lodge is in session. Freemasonry does not have a Ten Commandments. It is not a religion. It does not tell a man how to live but offers the suggestion that a moral life is a good one. As for the ten commandments, Masonry has them today. Those quoted are from Albert Pike, who is a recognised authority to some. They are not meant to form a religion in anyway whatsoever. You may post whatever literature you like, but if you do, realise that all you are posting is opinion. No one man can write a book and say "This is what Freemasonry is about". No one man has the authority to speak for Freemasonry. Thanks for permission. But I speak not for Freemasonry, I speak for myself.

I have not seen any intelligent contribution to this thread from anyone, I guess Ogboni is harmless too then. no one here said they have been to the temple or seen their rituals let alone tell us what degree they are or even shared their motto, ( no one promised you say your papa go tell you everything now)

Lucifer power, powerless power. . . ogboni power, powerless power. . . mami water power, powerless power. . . mason power, powerless power. . . but Jesus power super power! , (x2) your hands!. . . . charity ko, morality ni. Reminds me of what my dad used to say about the Resecrutian order, calling it a phylosophical organization until i recieved the Holy ghost and began to walk in the power of God, making known the truths of the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ. dem neva born the mason wey go successfully operate for where me i dey. Even if he rejects or refuses to read the copies of Rhapsody of Realities i will send to his house, his gateman will, his house maid or driver will. It wont be long before his children begin to question his activities and insist on the Lordship of Jesus. You gather together but unto whom do you gather for fellowship? In whose name and under whose authority? Supreme being? That's the lie satan told you. You do not need to build an image in satan's name to be called his. Your rejection of the gospel of Jesus qualifies you as such. It does not matter by what means you operate or by what name they go by, the masons will only grow poorer and poorer, less and less influential in Nigeria as long as Jesus tarries just as the gospel grows and prevails. This is Nigeria, not Europe. Even in Europe, the light is shinning brighter and brighter with each passing day. The last day of the just concluded Higher life conference with pastor Chris in Canada climaxed with an audacious confrontaion of the kingdom of darkness as many were delivered from oppression under the dominion of satan unto the liberty of Christ. Hundreds hurried to the front after each meeting to be born-again. Another conference is holding right now at the Wembley arena in London. Halelujah Jesus conquered the world, hallelujah satan you are in trouble, the Lord reigneth in my life today.
