Did you see how he holed that 21 yarder in the final moment at the A.Palmer Championship? That man has nerves of steel! He is the greatest living sports man.

I think it was 24yards. The fellow is just phenomenal, i was silently hoping for a par to force a play-off . . . and he pops up to shock everyone with that shot. His mental strength is probably the best out there . . . Sean O'Hair and VJ Singh should be ashamed of themselves.

Sportsman- - - -maybe. a big maybe too
Athlete- - - - - - hell no. Are you kidding me
I bet you lot never heard of Bo Jacksonor don't forget Lawrence Taylor.
And his short game is pretty crap anyway. . . .He has excelled in this sport largely because his competition are a couple of lazy middle aged toffs. So he can drive the ball farther than any one. Well almost everyone.

I very much doubt it, a lot of the top players are young. Zach Johnson, Sean O'Hair, Phil Michelson . . . these guys arent 50.

All of them look like they haven't seen the insides of a gym in ages especially Phil Mickelson. Have you seen Angel Cabrera?
They hardly qualify as athletes.
Tiger Woods is great for sure, but he has an overwhelming advantage on the strength front.
Although admittedly they are some on tour who can drive farther down the fairway than he can

John "journeyman" Daly is a valid example here.

Is it his putting game then?

Is it his putting game then? The way the commentator at the weekend put it was, although he is not the best in any particular aspect,in all aspects,he is very strong. Most importantly,he is very consistent. He has incredible mental strength. Sometimes you see some golfers make a couple of eagle putts on one day,the next day they are producing triple bogeys. I don't think Tiger shot the lowest round on any particular day during the weekend but he was consistent enough to produce a winning performance especially when it mattered most.

i agree with the first part of your statement, but i don't think age is a hindrance in golf.

But surely we cannot elect our 'greatest sportsman or athlete' on the basis of consistency. Well I guess winning consistently might qualify. Anywayyyyyyy. . . . .

Tiger's lowest rounds were the 66 he shot on the last 2 final rounds. Sean O'hair was one short off the tournament record at 63 on friday. -4 up on saturday and cruising at the top of the leaderboard, he shot a quadruple bogey at 16 to finish even for the day . . . and there went his challenge poof. You hardly see Tiger make such mistakes at the tail end of a championship.

I agree he is prolly one of the strongest sportsmen out there mentally. . . .
Can only remember him messing about with closing a championship while having the lead on the final day.
I think at the Masters tussling with Chris DiMarco.
Ohhhh. . . .he still won on the playoff holes by the way

Did you all see the game this past week? He came from the 25th position 7 pts below the leader to still win the game. Only an awesome sportsman could do that. He's not the best but he's certainly up there.
