Amazing Grace is cool, Try watch some SA films and see the difference. Try and get a copy of Tsotsi the Academy Award winning film you would love it,
I watch an episode of Secret and Scandal prouced by Elvis Chuks and they stole the scene where Tsotsi took that baby to Miriam for breast feeding.

I sure non of you guys have had a look at the movie "Amazing Grace" otherwise, you wouldn't be talking like this. We know the Nigerian movie industry isn't really doing well in terms of producing quality movies.
But must we keep whining all the time? Just because South Africa won An Academy dosen't mean we haven't had any good thing here. 'Amazing Grace' is one.
I am a strong critic of the Nigerian movie industry but i get really pissed when people start these comparisons. Please let's stop it.
As already said, south Africa has always been ahead of Nigeria.
We are not doing really well but that dose not mean that we have never had something good.
the problem we have in nigeria is a multi pronged one so it realli needs a good whine to kick start any type of reform which starts from forums like these,if it was expertise then we have the likes of mainframe,dj tee and so many i don't know who can shoot and direct quality movies, personally what im saying is that they havnt got funds to help them out neither are the government and private individuals giving them support the music artise are spending an average of 2million at least on a few minutes video while a 1 hour 30minutes movie is being shot for less than 1 million naira, that s got to call for some ddiscussion,

Movie is about originality, vision, history, technology, propanganda, dominance and general way of life and ethics, all this we chronically lack as a people.
We are not in the position to influence others if we can't control our destiny. What we do and what people think about us depends on our concepts and for now,our concepts are undefined, infact we don't have, caught up between reality and fantasy.
How would you master a camera,a car,a ship or a plane if you don't have any inkling of how this things are made,we have to begin to see this things as objects we can create and make available before we can able to use them. This can be clearly seen from how we manage oyibo built infrastructures, total fallacy,we can't handle it,because we don't know what they stand for.Driving delicate machines in pothole and dust filled roads, instead of donkies,we have not even started the technology of donkey and horse carting.

Why can't we make Classic epic movies?
. . .Because we can barely make non-classic, non-epic movies.

Nigerian music is superb,original,no match.Music like Fela Kuti.Femi Kuti,Osadebe,Wasiu,Bright Chimezie,Oriental Brothers,Oliver,Shina Peters,name them,their music videos always come out natural and beautiful,it portrays african creatitivity,uniqueness,beauty, unity,independence and joy.
All the the same in diffrent languages, universal, only the real can fell it,white man's version of classical but in this case,it's for all,no boundaries.

Listen guys blockbuster movie making in todays world is about taking a big chance on a piece of intellectual property with the high hopes that the financial returns on the execution of the production n marketing of the movie will be high rewarding.
The avenues by with such movies are produced n marketed are not yet available in todays Nigeria. High finance for 1; we are yet to c anyone ready to invest $100mil (=N=12bil) in a movie even $20mil(=N=240mil) is to high a figure to produce a Nigeria movie mainly because the marketing channels are not yet high developed to accomodate the eventual recuparation of such investments.
We may c developments n improvements over the next ten years as more n more people demand goods n services such as movie theathers movie shows original DVDs n such like.
South Africas economy is very different from ours n can support such large investment in such a thing as a blockbuster movie. We'll need to move our country to the point where playing with the big boys in the international arena will become common place.

how are we supposed to make classics or epic nigerian movies when we know very little about our history and past. we do not have enough information or resouces about the history of the nation nigeria especially before the british came into nigeria.
apart from the issue of financing/funding of the epic, which is a major factor, i guess the researching for the story would be very tasking, except if u just want to do a fictional story.

I don't personally like those kinds of industries with little or no real value (eg sports, acting, music etc. ) I think we nigeria, should concentrate on the hard sciences and technology. We have a zero manufacturing base. We can't even make bicycle. India is getting ready to launch a moon expedition. Look at the success of china, taiwan, hong kong, india, singapore, south korea etc. They concentrate on manufacturing and the sciences. Every thing else will come after you have solved your real problems. I am 40 years old and there has not been a day in benin that nepa has not taken light in 40 years. What a shame.! we can't even feed our selves and we are talking about acting / actors.

So what if a third world country decides to send men to the moon while majority of their people are living in perpetual poverty? So what if NEPA 'takes light' every 2 minutes? Should we now wait for the government to fix NEPA before we wake up and do something worthwhile? One sided development has been our bane in Naija. I personally do not see anything wrong with a vibrant entertainment indusrty or have you forgotten the magnitude of people (millions of Nigerians) gainfully employed in the entertainment sector? I guess we should abandon those years of sweat and send a man to the moon- - - or and we can also build a wheel barrow to show the world we have 'arrived'. Perhaps if you do a little research, you'd know that we have been manufacturing stuff but that is out of the question. Sending a man to the moon should be the least of our worries, not when close to 70% of our people are living in abject, but should we become adamant and send men to the moon in our present situation, we deserve a shower of fire, brimstone, hell, thunder etc etc for diving nose deep into a pointless wild goose chase at the expense of the wretched masses. I agree with you, we should concentrate of things like good roads, good NEPA, basic amenities and most importantly, jobs (the entertainment industry you so much despise is doing well in that department even with all the NEPA syndrome ). So my brother, cool temper. Sports and music have been the integral part of our culture or do you think oyibo man invented that too? Live and let live. There is enough room for NEPA, 'hard scince' Moon adventure, acting, melecine, Babalawoism, Dibiaism, music and sports.

homeboys, My point about going to the moon was the technological feat itself not the journey. my other point about nepa was if we had our own technology, we(obasanjo) probably wouldnt have blown 16 billion dollars with some Italian and chinese firms who sold us electricity generating machinery they know we can't operate. It always amuses me as to how people get wrapped up in certain things like sports and movies. I thank God that it employs people but It could employ a heck of a lot more people and pay much better. We probably will not be able to make an epic movie without that technological know how I am talking about. You need the know how to operate those $100,000 high tech cameras, boom, lighting, sound, special effects etc etc. My nigas look, we all like nija movies and want the best for our country and our people. I have researched and researched and researched and I can't find anything made in Nigeria. All I find is parts imported from china and put together in naija. You would be helping me much if you could point me to a nigerian owned company that manufactures especially consumer electronics. I have business I would really like to steer that way. I am tired of making the koreans rich. I will probably start a thread on that issue. I really want to find out more info.
