Nollywood & "fiance/ Fiancee"

I have noticed a trend in a lot of the nollywood romance movies using the term FIANCEE/FIANCE! Anytime their's a movie scene involving the opposite sex, they ALWAYS have to introduce their BOYFRIEND/GIRLFRIEND as their "FIANCEE/FIANCE"
I'm just curious whether a male and female can ever date in any of the nollywood movies without being referred to as a FIANCEE/FIANCE. abi i dey miss something? Abeg make una explain am to me.
