omg, i saw this thread clicked it and started reading your posts from the begining, after reading like 4 i couldn't hold it again.NIIT is total rubbish, i started a course there and i'm still regretting going there in the first place.i remember the lecturers (or 'faculties' as they call themselves) saying aptech is rubbish and all that but a friend of mine that left NIIT to aptech speaks otherwise.at a point, about 3 people had to share a computer because we were too many in a class.we didn't get our books in time and we had to share that aswell.i beg any body reading this and having a mind of going there, just save your money while you can because the annoying part of it is the huge amount they con u off,but their books are good though

NIIT na wack na.Aptech is better

Students from Aptech r heading top organisations in Nigeria and some even get paid as high as 1m a months.

It does depend on skills too.

Hey if u ask me, i will say that niit is the best around that u can get. IT is a hot cake right now so u have to pay much to get the best, i think the money is ok. You can just sit at home and look the learnkey tutorials for CCNA or A+ or what eva and go write the exam and pass. You can always say it is expensive when u look at it from that perspective. for me i think niit is ok, i'm currently studying there and i think it is the best place around when u talk of IT. Where ever u go, u have to have interest and u have to study hard to make it. the books i was given are very self explanatory, i can read and understand even without a lecturer. if i read hard, then i will finish and know what i did, but otherwise, i will just finish, waste my money and i will not be able to defend my certificate anywhere. so please don't just sit there and say bad things about my school. you don't know better than IDC that rated niit among the first 20 of its kind globally, higher than even aptech. if it was not worth it it would not have expanded to over 35 countries and over 3200 centers in 20 years. go and ask how much it costs to study in other niit centers worldwide and u will know that nigeria is one of the cheapest. anywhere u go to in the world to study, u can either choose to waste your time or u can do something good for urself, its left to u to choose. please go and look for facts before u come and start talking rubbish about other peoples' schools. thank you.

about the degree, niit offers a degree in computing science and its practice in collaboration with the UK open university. the course duration is 3 and a half years, u first start with niit for 2.5 years and then proceed to their lagos or portharcourt center to do the top up programme in the UK open university. that is what i am doing at the moment. i was studying comp science in atbu bauchi and i left in my 3rd year for this course in niit, and so far so good. i will advise you to go and make more enquiries at both aptech and niit before takin any decision and make sure u are computer literate. u should at least know how to operate a computer.

i think niit is just like a guide,go get what they have to offer ,get on the net and practice more not only practicing but read hard cos there books are self explainatory.an advice to niit student shine your eye, meet people, ask question and i bet u ,u wont be on the losing side.  but some nairalnders get bad mouth oh, shu.nawa oh.

don't hate just being factual.

i worked in aptech in 2002 as a faculty(instructor) and i also have a friend that joined aptech from niit in 2002. my younger brother finshed his course in aptech this year.

so i can talk about aptech- v.i centre. it is a good school and worth the investment. their programs are broad (from database to programming, from vb.net, java, microsoft office, sql).

however, you must have the passion yourself, study and practise.

niit-- there books are good, their certificate is hot and they have the name but their programs are streamlined-- e.g u go in 4 java or u say u go in for database. mostly favours professional (my own opinion) trying to get into a new technology.

however, there are cheaper schools especially in lagos.

my advise, if you cant go to any other cheap school go to aptech. i spent 280k funding my bros education there. for a 1 year program. the guy said it was worth it.!!!

I think all these centers have their pros and cons NIIT wa once good but they seem to have been slacking lately their standards have definitely dropped but they still have that name sha you cant take it away from them. You do have to open your mind though and dont expect to be spoonfed you need to practice and show some seriousness on your part but the place is ok.A lot of fine chicas too  Wink.Thats depending on the center and your time schedule though

NIIT is doing a Degree programme and its what i'm doing. i'm also running a programme at APTECH. when it comes to Networking, APTECH is good and when we're taking of Software, NIIT is the best. If you really need a degree programme, i'll advice you to come to NIIT and put in for a course called DNIIT.

I wouldn't say NIIT is that bad , I was there around 2001 at the Iponri centre in Surulere and  I was lucky to be with this batch of really hard working guys and we did a lot of group studies thanks to the books and  it paid off .
I wouldn’t say it was NIIT that got me to where I am today,  it was   down to share determination and a lot of hard work. A place like NIIT is a good start but you cant rely on the lecturers alone, 4 of us studied together to prepare for the  MCP examination which we all passed and today we all have great jobs because we did not stop there.

I think what really helped  was the fact that I moved to UK to study just after I left  but if I had not gone to NIIT I don’t think I would have continued with IT.
Guys to really excel in IT at times you need more than what a school has to offer or any lecturer, you have to be determined.

I work for Microsoft Corporation  now in UK and the hard work is what got me there with the  help of great friends  , Lanre , Chike and Ikemefuna I will always cherish the times we all spent together.

Say every bad thing u want about NIIT, in the first quater of next year i'm signing out with a First class degree (BSc) in Software Eng (aka Comp Sci & Prac).  Tongue Tongue

I've spent 4 years at NIIT, i hold the highest certification they offer (DNIIT).
Spent 3 years getting that
i used my DNIIT to migrate to the British Open University, to complete my course, spent 1 year there and just finished final exams.

The NIIT experience would remain one of a kind.
No hard feelings about Aptech, here they are just under the NIIT shadow, don't know of some other part of the country.

Ok that's the good side of NIIT
Let me spill some milk now, lol.
Some of NIIT lecturers suck, thts for shizzle.
NIIT has blinded the eyes of those who want to be blinded with their "scholarship" thing (God has to punish them for that)
At early stages, NIIT is more intrested in your money, when u get to advanced levels, they start treasuring u hoping u'll work for them when u're done (lai lai).
NIIT salaray sucks major donkey ballz, (Kai, 35k per month!! for what na?)
NIIT fees are on the high side

if u don't have a car, hmmmmm e go hard o when u're walking into the place. Last week i went to sign my exam tickets, i parked outside and walked in, to ma left na Accord 08, to ma left na Camry08, i was still looking when a chic came in with a Toyota Tundra. I looked far into the parking lot and spotted a Ford F150 truck, i had to thank goodness i parked far outside (don't ask wht car i brought) lol. So most people in the beginner levels of NIIT now are just there for the fun and rave, most of them will drop out when the core programming hits them.
etc, lol

P.S: NIIT has little to do with what i've got today, no higher institution can be better than your personal hard work.
Goto the best institution, without your personal best, its still gwan be crap.
Anyhowz, it don't matter where u go, wht matters is your personal dedication to your course.

I went through an NIIT textbook on Javascript. and it so easy to locate errors
You dont need to try some of them before you know "this cant work"

They have the name and i guess Nigerians love it when they pay a lot of money to get the same thing they can get for less
especially when the environment looks world class.
they can even pay 500,000 naira to learn how to use dreamweaver

The best you can do for yourself is DIY
download tutorials online and master them
You can go there if u need the papers though.

Never stepped computer classes yet i dey try small small, at least i tutor people on how to use these languages
like yawa once said, na under bridge we learn our programming  Grin Grin
