you can't simply hook up a big battery to the ups and expect it to work, may be it might work on the first discharge circle then you would have a serious problem of under charged batteries. ups is designed to run for a short period of time. that is why it has a small compact sealed battery inside, and the system is so designed to charge a small battery. in adddition to that the ups might over heat and fry the mosfets or worse destroy the power transformer, so my friend, with just a big battery, that wont work. however if you are that desperate to convert your ups to power inverter you would have to do a total system upgrade. i am talking about increase mosfet power handling rating for the long duration, cooling systems, increased charging current etc. sorry i can't get into all that right now, although you can still get a small external battery, say a 60AHR 12volts, sealed or acid, it doesnt matter, the most important thing is that you should have an external battery charger with a matching charging voltage as the ups to boost charging, then you must make sure you run the ups at 50% or half the maximum power capacity. well thats it, be careful. cheers
