I am amazed and astounded at what symbian phones can really do!A friend of mine pimped his nokia 6600 with 4 computer games specifically modified to suit his phone.He did it in Ibadan.The computer games(not symbian games) he has: Call of duty(29mb!),Tomb raider(9mb),Spiderman(10mb) and 2008 Real football(12mb).men,the graphics are stunning and out of the world!
Plz,the phone gurus,especially hansibone,if u can furnish me with the site(I heard that there is such a site that u can use to specially modified the computer games to ur phone model) or even upload the computer modified games to this forum,I will be grateful indeed.

jeez, just2nice now this is interesting, such games would probably not work on a S60v2 phone, because of speed and screen resolution, but dey might work on a s60v3 phones or maybe windows mobile enabled phones. would do a little research on it now  |

I'm pretty sure your pal is simply running ngage games on his 6600. All those games came out on the old ngage and it wasn't too hard to port them back in the day.
Your friend should have set you straight instead of claiming undeserved credit.
Real football 2008 runs natively on many symbian devices.

Quake was ported to mobile phones way back, especially windows mobile devices. That's a long way from saying there's a procedure for converting 'computer games' to phones. You'll notice that the phone in the link is an N-series phone with 3d hardware. his friend's phone is a 6600, which is pretty dated in terms of hardware. Quake was released in the early 90s. That's an Old, OLD game. Call of duty came out in 200x, and as someone who played the original game, believe me when i say it can't be ported to run on any of your N-series phones. The games running on his friend's phone are N-GAGE games. old ones, to boot. There's very little amount of hackery involved in getting them to run. However, if you still insist that a 2 GB Call of Duty install can miraculously be ported to a 29mb file that'll run on a 6600, i can't stop you. |

call of duty for symbian and windows mobile were specifically made for those handheld devices and NOT ported as quake and doom were. besides, doom runs on the same Id engine as quake and sort of are not that very advanced 3d wise to be any wonder running on mobile devices which already have very-low-polygon 3D capability. even Ashen on Ngage has better graphics than quake and doom, and quake is unstable on symbian while doom has no sound files. games that work on openGL or DX are easy to port c-on-c to mobile devices with rudimentary 3D and low res textures.
besides its not really porting technically: id games from those days used somethinig called WADS as their main data files, so you just code an engine to run the wad files. in essence, anything that runs C++, has openGl or dx support, has a qvga screen and above can run wad files.
its NOT the eight wonder of the world!
blah, have you seen daedalus3D, pandemonium, Tombraider all on ngage? meanwhile, ngage and all OS6.1 phones have the SAME hardware with the engage aving slightly more runtime memory. its not like the ngage has a superior 3D engine different from the rest and that explains why most ngage games work on 6600. the ngage is actually inferior OS wise to the 6600 but the hardware is the same.

29mb isnt so big for a 3D game. i think spiderman on ngage was like 40mb or so. pc games now top 3gigs. can you beat that? |
