I don't know what the problem is. I suggest you to reinstall Microsoft Office CD and be sure to have downloaded Microsoft Office update the same way you did with Windows XP update.
Try re-running the installer package for the office suite, but this time specify "Repair installation" when prompted. Hopefully, doing this should fix any errors you are experiencing.
