My brothers and sisters i have been residing in Europe now for a couple of years and i can say that i have seen my own share of things, but what i am about to tell you is what has broken the camel´s back, i reside in Finland and i am legal, working ans studying, i have never considered myself Finnish or European, but one day last week i was walking to work, when i passed a drunk guy on the street, like every other person, i went on my own way, only to hear from aback someone call Nigger, why did you not help him? Now i turned and look and it was a middle edge man, has been drinking but not at the moment, he repeated himself, now i have been called a Nigger more than 10 times in this country but i decided that i will push for my rights this time, i asked the guy what and why did he refer to me by that name? and he said that, that is what we are know as here, in Finland, i called the cops, and after 10mins the did not show up and i called again, and the lady answering told me that there was no available patrol at the moment, that i can either wait or go to the center and leave a report, Now this is my 1st time of calling the cops and there are no patrol cars? hmmmmmmmmmmm, in Finland? hmmmmmmmm, i waited with the man and after 10mins i called the cops again and the said that they will forward the message. After 10 or so more mins, the cops finally showed up and i explained myself to them boldly and with confidence, only for them to ask me: What do you want us to do? Now i was shocked, but i had to contend myself, i mean you are the law, you are the guys that will read my rights to me, and if i had punched the guy these are the same guys that would not mind taking me into custody at once, but in this case all i got was a What do you want us to do? In Almighty Europe, With me insisting they asked the guy to apologize and then hastily told me that they have to go to work, now my point is this: why have we always thought that we will be treated well outside our country? why have we, me inclusive become so brain washed that we believe that this abroad is heaven and nothing less? are we not modern day slaves? where is our dignity -the same the we give to them back home? I know Nigeria is not a developed nation, but does that mean that it is not our home? My brothers lets come togther and tell the truth so that other people will or may not pass through things like the one described above.

Well, shit happens all the time. As the guy was drunk, you coulda gone ur way with your dignity instead of trying to start sumtin with him. Now as for the cops, they are wrong for not making the guy apologise to you but hey, the drunk is a citizen, you are not so don't expect the cops to consider you first before their citizens. Who knows, they might be racist too and you could have taken the hint when you called and they were reluctant to show up. I know it feels bad, it happens everywhere, a little boy had called me slave once(wheni was in cyprus) and his dad thought it was funny. just take heart, thats one thing you have to put up with. Personally i resort to abusing them in my language, which they wont understand. . . thats if i have time. It drives them crazy, believe me.

I feel your pain. One white guy in my school once called me kunta kinte. I called him too Adolf Hitler on the spot only for him to tell me he is jewish and i replied instantly, that it is people like him that gave hitler a good cause to destroy the jews. he was dumbfounded.
Another incident with a guy also in my school from pakistan. he was Blabbing in class about africa and all and asked me where i am from and i replied Nigeria. Only for him to ask me:Why is it all Nigerians are Scammers? and i replied instantly: Why is it all Pakistani are suicide Bombers?-He could not believe imy response but that sure kept him quiet.
It is something we just have to deal with and move on. One of the obstacles of living overseas.

Why did you expect the police to do anything anyway? Is racial abuse against the law in Finland?
I think you must have had a lot of time on your hands to call the police and then wait for them to get the drunk to apologize.
You should have simply told him to f*uck off and gone on your way.
If you were abused on the street in Nigeria, what would you have done? Called the police or simply given as good as you got?

Yes i knew that some people would say why waste your time, don't we need to get tired of something sometimes, is it the not the same attitude that has made us become comfortable as 3rd class citizens in other people´s countries, all i wanted to know was if the country or europe was as perfect as it has always been painted by us and the europeans themselves, this was an incident that i have learnt from and i think we should educate others at home and tell the truth

You didn't answer the question.
What would you have done in your own country, Nigeria?
Is racism against the law in Finland?
In Nigeria, Nigerians will not demand their human rights but then they will do so once they are outside the country and cry 'racism' when they feel their pleas are ignored.
You claim Nigerians are third class citizens in another mans country but what class of citizen are most Nigerians in their own country?

THEY WERE ABOUT TEN BLACK PEOPLE IN THE WHOLE SCHOOL AND THAT WAS THE BLACK POP FOR THE WHOLE TOWN TOO. SO YOU CLD IMAGINE .when WE WENT INTO TOWN WE WERE CALLED ALL THE NAMES YOU COULD THINK OF BUT when THEY CALLED THE NAMES WE JUST LAUGH IT OFF THAT HURT THEM more . so it one those things that we ve to live with.

hmmm, so when will it change? Just because it's done doesn't meant it's right. To answer the question about Naija, well isn't it about time. If the citizens REALLY decide to demand their rights, things can change. Change didn't come in America by them sitting and accepting things or by complaining and doing nothing.

oh ho, is that not what i am saying, i know that we are not a perfect nation, but why do we not try to build it up? i was here to learn educationally and career wise, but that does not mean that i do not have rights? if this had happened in Nigeria, to a Finn, it would have appeared on BBC or CNN, and in the New York Times, my point is we should educate others, make a stand, be good ambassadors and if we cannot talk at home, and cannot do that abroad, which a lot of us think is Heaven, then were will we be able to have a life?

dude like the guy above said its one of the things we experience being in another man's country, me and my friend were at a nigerian party in north london and some guy said where are all these black monkey coming from and i quickly answered that the same place all these pink bellied white baboons are coming from and that kept them quiet, love using my language to abuse them and smiling mischieviously as that gets them mad as well
