I would have said no to both but I've realised its wrong to generalise.
There will always be an exception. I'm currently dating a cute muslim
babe I was already attracted before I realised. Same could have happened with a white garment babe.

I guess they are all human beings. besides, I'm a guy so there is the tendency either of them will convert 2 wherever I belong. Grin

Lucky to be a Man uuhm ? with a tendency to convert either ? Yeah RIGHT !

I JUST WONDER O, With no offence to anyone in da house please , I could remember sometime in the past when my Mum was invited to be the Chairlady of one white garment church fund raising , I had a designed black dress and my sister in red (on purpose anyway) just being naughty ! cos we new it's unacceptable, come see prowling eyes in the church! another thing which we all found amusing was when the Chairman was invited unto the high table, he happened to be an Alhaji , this Alhaji donated a substantial sum of money the next song we heard the choir sang were all muslim songs, LAI HI LA IN LA LA SALALA WALIHU WA SA LA. We could not believe this. I mean is this right  Huh?

Secondly there is this other white garment church in London being led by a lady, just about a couple of years back they changed their dress code  to normal outfits like pentecostal, I found this more confusing  Huh

Another thing is all these rituals, I believe Jesus christ shed his blood to wipe all our iniquities, why the killing of goat and ram for 'SARA' (so called) again ? The reason why me personally gets so scared around them is that, it is believed that they can cast hypnotic powers on you  Lips sealed this is something I expected someone to clarify at least cos, I JUST WONDER O   Huh

The issue with White Garment churches, mormons, or any other group that calls themselves christians isn't they way they dress. It is the things that they believe, and some practices they observe. I believe that being a christian doesn't rob u of your personality, which is influenced by your upbringing and environment. However, when we become christians we are to do away with the anti-Christ things we've learned or are used to. I think some white garment churches carry over some Yoruba traditional whatever into christianity. Using holy water, not wearing shoes, wearing white garments, are not bad in themselves. When the focus shifts from Jesus to the items, that's when u know they have a problem. I don't know all the white garment churches, but there might be some that are still true to the faith. Ppl just tend to group them as one since the well known ones have some unchristian practices.

I saw this maxim in a book on the "christian cults":- In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; and in all things, charity.

I think this is necessary for all Christians. our backgrounds matter a lot in the way we live our christian lives. this usually leads to doctrinal differences, because different ppl tend to place different degrees of importance to different biblical issues. For example, someone raised in a family of native doctors who bcomes a christian may place more importance on casting out demons (since he knows a lot about demonic action) than someone who was raised in a relatively clean (spiritually) environment. As long as we're united (in deed and word) on the fundamental christian issues, we're one. We are not perfect humans and are bound to see things in different perspectives at times.

Let me give an example of how background affects the way we see different issues:- If you listen to several Nigerian and American preachers (or read their books) even though each group may talk about both qualities of God, there is a tendency for Nigerians to dwell on God being a jealous God, terrible, the danger of falling into His wrath etc. While the Americans would very likely dwell on His being a loving God, caring, never forgets His children etc. If you take a good look at our different societies, u would understand why. For one, our traditional African were very much feared, and they usually visited disobedience with punishment. even within our societies/families, children are expected to respect their elders almost to the point of be afraid of them. The American culture on the other hand, is very particular about relationships and broken relationships are very common there. Naturally, ppl who care so much about relationships want to know a God who can give them the love and care they desire.

Well said GL. Americans also think/write about a very permissive GOD. Occasionally HE even resembles Santa Claus.

I wont mind a "secular" muslim (unlike Ajisafe), but I can't stand my partner running around in a white frock and bare feet except it's her nightgown.

I meant "resembles" in character not "looks like". Smiley What I mean is Americans say "Please GOD can I have a Mercedes." Not all of them sha. But they pray for material things instead of salvation and GOD's grace. I know, we all pray for things but some people pray for things, as in food, water, housing, school fees, etc. Those who have much, their prayers should be a thanksgiving not a Christmas list. Of course, I can only be so intimate w/ other people's prayers but to me this point of view is widespread in American society.

@beyonce1

I read with interest your misgivings about the white garment church. And I can confirm to you that evenMuslims view them with suspicions. I had a friend attending one of these churches in Ogudu GRA, and the pastor had always told them not to enter a particular room. Now on this day, all of the church members had gone home, but this guy forgot something and went back. He knocked on the door to that room, but heard no response, and so he opened the door. What did he see? The pastor had a rosary like the ones muslims use and was saying some muslim invocations!!! My friend memorized them, then came to me to know their meanings. The pastor told him though not to tell members of the congregation what he had seen.

You know where I am going with this? Well, people are afraid of what they do not know. La illa ha illa Lahu Muhammed rosulu laha means -There is no god, but God, and Muhammed is his messenger. A lot of christians are umcomfortable when muslims speak Arabic instead of english, and I cannot but agree with them that it's unnerving when you do not know what the other person is saying. So, I encourage muslims when they are asked to pray in public where we have other religoius faithfuls present, to pray in English so people hear and understand what they say. Though, the ritual solat-or prayer Muslims say must be in Arabic because an interpretation in english will as experience has shown us in the past, dilute the original meanings, or alter them altogether. That is why, those five daily prayers must be said in Arabic. Now, I have learnt Arabic  to an extent, and if the Muslims were saying evil things, I would not be a muslim now. This is especially as when I was a child, and I went to bible school, my teacher would tell me those muslims worship idols, and the devil. But wheninthe higher  institution, I became a good muslim, I discovered all I was told in bible school was balderdash.

Now, why are muslims afraid of white garment adherents? It's simple,we have mystics in Islam who use the Quran for illegal and unwholesome activities. You know, any word of God has power, but God does not intend that these books be used for evil. But man in his quest for power will use the injeel(Gospel), Sabur(psalms), Taurat(Torah), and the Quran(Koran) for mysticism. And some of the customers of these muslim mystics are other muslims with shaky faith, pastors of white garment churches, and indeed pastors of pentecostal churches. So, we view some of their activities with suspicion.

I would not marry even a muslim girl if I see amulets in her house or any other form of protection or help, which is prohibited and unfounded in Islam (These things are not permitted in Islam). This is only natural because, if for some reason we have a problem extraeneous or internal, she could go and consult these mystics who would give her 'things'to use without my knowledge. And this could compromise my faith. However, I can marry a christian girl because it is permitted in my religion. But she must be chaste, and she'll have to agree that our children would be muslims, if she herself chooses not to be. But before this can take place, I'd have satisfied myself that it's impossible to get a good muslim girl.

So let the debate continue.

Excellent response ajia23.

I had the awesome experience of going to a BREAK FAST service/program during Ramadan two years ago. This BREAK FAST program was set up by the Muslim Students Assoc. (MSA) on my campus to raise money for local charities and raise awareness about Islam. Anyhow before Fast could be broken there was the traditional prayer in Arabic. I didn't find it unnerving at all. It was really beautiful & I enjoyed the whole program & the things I learned. I think as Nigerians we can not afford to be afraid of ppl who speak different languages then ourselves. Even ppl of the same religion speak different languages wether it's French, Spanish, Yoruba or Hausa.

Thanks Chinani,

You did not state where this Muslim Student's Association is? I really would like to know. I wish everybody could just treat the other with less suspicion, there would be a reduction of unnecessary rancour that we witness today if this were to occur.

I am glad you did not find those pryers unnerving and would at this point recommend you even try to know the meaning of some of what they said- you will be astounded.

"As a christain i would choose neither, sorry to any cele in the house but i know and have seen first hand the practises in cele and it will make the hairs in the back of you neck stand on ends. I state it is not christainity at all, its a cover for more sinister and bordering on the occult of wicca in nature.

My feeling on churches are we know it,is it is very hard to find a true place of worship, alot are watered down, self serving, places of deceit. if you believe in God/jesus for me its a personal thing . The reason you have so many places given the name church or why there are so many diff denominations is because, people have not taken time to read that bible properly and worship the way God instructed. Its there , they just chose to skim over .Thats why they give you one verse of a chapter for instance ''God says he will bless you exceedingly'' you hear they screaming this one verse not bothering to look at what was said before the verse and after, its most likely God said ''if you obey all my commands'' then i will bless you.
can't really go into it people will have to research it themselves, put it this way cele worshippers come with too much baggage, so do a lot of people who say they are christains. A christain is not what your parents pass down to you, but a true follower of christ"

Question: Muslim or White Garment Partner?
Muslim
White Garment
I'm not a Christian

I choose "Neither."
From the way the question is asked, if one isn't a "White Garment," they're not a Christian. Aparrently, somebody has a very narrow view of Christians. Where i go to church, only the pastor wears a robe over his "duds."

The focus is not on what he is wearing but on God's Word.

Zahymaka-aladura is like a general name for

Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim

Church of the Lord (Aladura)

Celestial Church of Christ(white garment) and not just for white garment

Anyway, I could have choosen them for the fact that they are ''christains'' note that i put it in quotes,  bt now i wld choose neither!!!! im sorry to say.i googled white garment because i just finished a disturbing conversation wit a friend after she told me abt another frnd who is a member.iv always thot there was somethin fishy goin on in that church bt kept my opinion 2 myself so i dont offend ppl but after wat i heard frm her 2day, hmmmmmm im scared.
Does anyone know what the perfume they give them in thier church to wear signifies??? cos i just think its dodgy,

And muslims, dont even get me started on that one. i agree with someone that talked abt how u would raise your kids wen your both diff religions. iv seen kids grow up in that kind of family and i just think its sad that they dont knw what they r doin. one day here another day some where else, and they have to come up wit a sad excuse that ''we all serve the same God''!!!! It just cracks me up and i feel so much pity for them cos  Any ''true christain'' would know better than that, except you read your Bible upside down

huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh   thats a sigh of relief. Feel a huge burden has been lifted off my heart. Been itching to say this for a while. Now i can sleep well.

For those who are screaming foul and calling this discrimination, you might want to instead take time to ask her what exactly she meant by white Garment church and why her face went pale when her friend said that .

@Poster, as one who attended the white garment church myself as a kid with my mum, I would not go back there even if you offered me gold. I still have nightmares where I see myself being baptized as a two year old at the church, memories I am not supposed to still have access to at my age. Anywho, I have not had much good experience with white garment churches but I do have friends whose fathers believed in the doctrine offered by some of those churches and I saw nothing wrong with them. I do not know your friend much but I know from my experience that I would not go back.

Yes, not everything that screams CHRISTIAN is of Christ. It is all over the bible and we are supposed to keep our eyes and ears open to spot the lies when they approach us. I do not know what white garment church your own friend attends,  but I do know that not all people who say the name JESUS CHRIST are christians. I am going to guess there is a reason why you were surprised that this particular friend of yours went white garment. Do you mind sharing or is it personal??

I would neither go muslim. Life is hard enough.

@pauluus, sabreeze, lioness,akani,ajia23, beyonce1

I will like to assume most of you are Xtians, and do despise the inactions of the pharasees and saducees towards Jesus.
but I can confidently assure u that, thats exactly what u are presently doing and even more unfortunately in this age of knowledge.

except for the few who spoke out of knowledge and expirience, I would have assumed the discussion is one-sided.

well to start with, I wasnt born in celestial, But today I am proudly one, though I hardly attend these days, but not for any of the reasons you think. I can tell 1000 miserable things about celestial, but so is it prevalent in other denominations and religions and worse still they are readily accepted as the norms of life. and there worse cases in your churches.

while no matter what I say, certain opinions and convictions will not change, I will still say this.
true, God exists
true, He lives in heaven
true, no man has seen and will see God, until that day, but

your conscience is your God and its dictates are His commandment. your moral values explain what you do, how you do it and sometimes the church you attend. depending on who u are going there to meet, God, pastor and or the congregation

To marry a muslim, its a no and to marry a white garment church member its also a no.                                  I attend CCC and a white garment church could be OOO, Sabbath, C&S, Morning Star,Aladura e.t.c. Like i always say alot of christains have no personality, what they have is the personality of their pastors and churches. The world is now in a stage where everyone has to define themselves  either as a muslim, christian, witness, grail messenger, so this has hidden the you in you. This thread is only a controversial one and what is been said here is only based on what people think. My opinion to any sincere brother, sister, father, mother is that do not run anyone down irrespective of their belief until you know who they are. We only end up limiting ourselves and not our creator-GOD at the end of the day. Do you know if that partner has been prepared for an assignment in life and destiny.      My fiance worships at the Christ Embassy, we had our share of heated arguments, views of friends and family. Infact it caused several strains in the relationship but today we have a direction. Another thing i must not fail to tell you guys is this- do not intend to change your partner once you have accepted them. Its only God that has the ability to change anyone.                       @beyonce how would you have felt if your told u she was now a lesbian and maybe in a gay marriage. I'll tell you something if you are still friends let the friendship continue. I have had a wonderful friend who has accepted me even when her other friends ran away from her cos of me. Good friend the bible says sticketh closer than even a brother.                       So i want to see more views.
