Going For My Graduate Study In Uk.
« on: April 08, 2008, 06:48 PM »

Hello, please i need candid advice from people that have gone through or presently doing their masters degree in uk. I just gained admission to study international relations in university of leeds. i can afford to pay for 50% of the tuition fee, my father has promised to send the remaining 50% after i have resumed. the issue is that i do not have the funds to pay for the accomodation. my aunty is encouraging to still go ahead and accept the offer that when i resume, i would pick up a meniial job and be able to pay for my accomodation and take care of my other living expense? Please is this really possible, can i survive in school if my tuition has been taken care of? please candid advice needed. I do want to defer the admission, because i want to go for my masters this yr and come back to nigeria next yr.

i am studying not very far from leeds in manchester and as long as your tution is sorted, you definitely can survive, there are cheap student accomodations and you can get a room in a house which is cheaper, also you can get a lot of jobs but not that well paid as it ll prolly be minimum wage a few jobs are telesales or you can try o2 telecoms who employ students, carphone warehouse e.t.c
and before you know it you r done with your studies, the night life is really good as well but bradford is a kind of shitty place tho

@ Amy84

As a student u are not allowed to work for more than 20 hrs a week, O2 and the likes pay approx £6/hr.
it probably wont be enough to cover accomodation, feeding and sch costs,
Some people believ they can get 2 jobs or work longer but it is not as easy working while in sch esp if you're new here,
If its possible, try raise some more money  to cover your accomodation perharps for a few months till u settle down and get used to the system. this will giv u time to find a job that you're happy with and pays enough for u to live on.

Menial jobs can only pay for feeding and maybe small luxuries but not accomodation.

try and raise your fees and accomodation before you land there. abi u no wan pass?
