http://www.smh.com.au/news/world/new-airline-for-failed-asylum-seekers/2007/03/14/1173722517212.html
So vast has the number of deportees from Europe become, that two enterprising businessmen have hatched an extraordinary plan - a new airline exclusively for failed asylum seekers.

Asylum Airlines is set to be operative within three months, complete with padded rooms for troublemakers and meals - presumably with a halal option - for passengers.

The flights will journey around Europe, picking up failed asylum seekers from various countries and then dispatching them back to their home nations around Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

Austrian deportation lawyer Hermann Heller and Austrian aviation consultant Heinz Berger told the Daily Express newspaper the new airline is in negotiations with several governments across Europe.

It was being promoted as a cost-efficient option for governments compared to the current arrangements on board commercial flights, with Britain reportedly spending STG315,000 ($A776,900) recently to deport just 15 Iraqis.

"Here in Austria, every time a deportee is sent home on a regular flight, they need three seats, not just for the deportee but for the policemen on either side," Mr Heller said.

"Many airlines have already stopped taking asylum seekers home because of unpleasant scenes.

"With a professional service the deportations will be faster, chains will not be needed and the deportees can enjoy a meal."

The planned flights will have guards, medical staff and a representative of a human rights group on board, though there is no immediate news of plans for inflight entertainment or a frequent-flyer schem

NIGERIANS THREATEN TO BOYCOT BA OVER DEPORTATION SAGA

Thousands of Nigerians living abroad have threatened to boycott, British Airways over the recent shabby treatment of a Nigerian deportee and other citizens onboard a Lagos bound flight at the London Heathrow Airport on March27, 2008.

The aggrieved Nigerians living in countries in Europe, Canada, US,Asia and others at home had  frowned at the uncivilized manner at which British immigration officials and that of the BA often treat Nigerians under the guise of enforcing  immigration laws in that country.

It will be recalled that 135 passengers who were Nigerians who resisted the inhuman treatment meted  on the said deportee  were denied  flight to Lagos while ,one Ayodeji Omotade,an IT  Consultant ,perceived by BA officials to be championing the rights of deportee was banned for life from flying the British carrier.

A passenger who witnessed the ugly incident, said this madness was stopped during the era ,former Aviation Minster,Chief Femi Fani –Kayode who  took the foreign airlines to the cleaners over  such reports, especially on issues relating to spraying , high air fares  and shabby  treatment of Nigerian passengers onboard these carriers.

He therefore urged the government to go back to that era that brought respect to Nigerian flyers.

In a protest letter sent to Mr. President, Senate President, Speaker of the House, Aviation Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and   posted on a website –Village Square; the aggrieved citizens, demand   among other things; a front page apology in a national Nigerian daily newspaper to all passengers’ onboard flight BA0075 bound for Lagos on March 27, 2008.
•   A written apology and appropriate compensation to Mr.Ayo Omotade
•   A  lifting of the life ban imposed on mr Ayo Omotade
•   All criminal charges against Mr. Ayo Omotade be dropped forthwith
•   An undertaking from BA that henceforth such practices will desist. Nigerian passengers will be treated with respect within and outside Nigeria
, The Nigerians then gave BA until April 30th ,2008  to comply to the above demands.

“Failure on the part of British Airways to comply to the above demands will result in us calling for a worldwide boycott of British Airways by Nigerians”,the group declared.

Omotade,  in his comment said: “there are also numerous accounts of less than acceptable customer service by BA  to Nigerians on board flights to and from Nigeria. Such treatment must stop.”

Yeah,  u read it well. lets fight this thing off once and for all. Mr Ayo did no wrong man! Join else, it may be your turn to be robbed of your important occassion one of these days.

By the way,  that letter has been circulated all over.

Regards.

at last, these people get sense o! I reckon normal airlines might try to boycott this plan, they make so much money from carrying deportees

it annoys me when i hear or see Nigeria peeps trying to justify racism,  BA has always been notorious in the way and manner they treat Nigeria peeps annd truth is there is always a diff in the way they treat passengers on other routes. why would i iwant to fly in the same plane with an unwilling passenger. omotade shouldnt have been put through all he did.  havent experienced BA's wahala but have heard too much to not even want to try them out. too much lost luggages story, too much inferior service, too much rude crew, too much delays. i no just fit shout abeg. fly bellview or follow desert, if u uget mind,
y is it that only Nigeria deportees are always dying or being maltreated. agreed that we can be a handfull, but truth is these people know that nobody will rise in defence of any Nigeria man being harrasses so they do wot they like at will. did u hear the story of naija and southis dudes arrested and sentenced to death for drug dealing in an asian country(have 4gotten)? Mbeki called to plead for his life and his sentence rduced to life. OBJ pleaded and nobody listened, lol,  crazy country we r from men, all man just dey on nhim mown,

Hi everyone,

A website has been opened where we can sign against the ill-treatment on omotade,

You can go there and sign the petition, http://www.nigeriavillagesquare.com/component/option,com_philaform/Itemid,214/form_id,6/

and for your info, BA has actually thought about reducing Ayo's ban terms to Six months
(but we don't need six months, we need apologies and compensation and removal of the life ban Cheesy)courtesy of

of the mails nigerians have sent to the BA executive director.

Hello all, I must thank everyone for their support for the past two weeks. I thought it will be the right thing to update everyone with the latest development.

British Airways have contacted me for the first time since the ordeal took place.

The letter stated that I have been banned on all BA flights for 6 months effective from 14th of April 2008 to 13th of October 2008.

The case continues and I will update you as it goes. Please thanks for the support once again.
Kind regards

Re: petition: Good for Mr Omo. I hope he's learned a valuable lesson -

- never interfere with a deportation process, or any kind of arrest.

If I was daft enough to poke my nose where it didn't belong, I wouldn't expect to be bailed out.

Saying that, I'm happy for Mr Omo.

Lets all come together! Both Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora. We will make a better future out of Nigeria. We have all the resources needed in our country but Britain hasn't got Natural resources just human resources(labour force)
But British people always seek justice and good will for her country's advantage. I have lived in Nigeria and Britain and i know this for sure- Just 30 years will catapult Nigeria to be a country to be recon with amongst world powers if all things been equal. Sometimes i cry when i view where Nigeria should have been less all the corruption and unjust that is still going on in our country.

Nigeria please wake up before countries like Mali and Congo start to deport and call naija people nuisance. Nigeria is a blessed Nation. Please do not shame us. I can't take this embarracement any longer!!

Mmmh I also experienced the same scenario on a BA 0075 Flight from London recently-precisely on the 10th of April, the man being deported kept on screaming and crying and muttering all sorts of things, and was intent on making that flight uncomfortable for everybody, even when he knew his crime - He kept saying, i only overstayed my visa.
Let us face facts; everybody knows, that if you are on a visitor's visa, you do not overstay your visa or attempt to earn money, as you are not allowed to work and have no recourse to public funds, but Undecided he kept shouting and saying that they want to steal my money, i reckon it was exactly like the case of mr. omotade, the money found on the deportee, which  was seized, and kept saying, they want to steal my money

it is really a shame how nigerians in general are treated, but then again we don't behave ourselves, hence the kind of treatment mete out to us, i have seen this time and time again, and my advice is we should really consider behaving ourselves, perhaps try being prim and proper and we wont be treated badly Angry, we are often too brash and often impolite, and these people still consider themselves superior to us, as that thing has never gone away, if you know what am talking about, its a shame Mr omotade is banned from flying BA for six months  , but no wahala, there are better alternative Jare, i have often said i don't like flying them either, because of poor services in general,  Wink

i do not think that BA will answer to any demands.
if they were able to send one flight back with 139 passangers less then they will not answer Mr O
USA and UK do not handle with terrorist much more with one trouble makers
every one knows that after 9:11 no on jokeswith flights or trouble makers on flights.
and i personally do not believe the story of "i only said".
as for the money the sized just maybe they wanted to humiliate him a bit. but if they were wicked , they could have sent him to Montana -bay as a terrorist suspect.
I mean even westernunion have their eyes open after an amount of money

by the way rumour has it that the German police now allow people(they arrested for deportation) to "escape" . rumour has it that the government feels its cheaper than a deportation and that this way deportee has to take responsibility for himself. But if you do not use the oppunity to espape they deport you.
for example after arrest you say you want to use the bathroom or pick your money from the bank. they make room for you to run.
after arrest and escape you definitely cannot stay in your old life.

i know of someone it happened to but he is from Angola or Congo???.
they picked him up at his place of work.he asked the police if he could first branch home to change and then pick his money from the bank. he ran away from the bank.
his flight would have been on that same day. he was arrested at about 1pm and was to be deported at about 5:30 pm.
while we were talking about how lucky he was to bail some were saying its not luck but a new system.
if they really want to get rid of someone like in some bad cases(drugs) they take you non stop to the airport in handcuffs. even allowing you to use the loo wil be a grace

Thank you so much for posting this thread. This is one of the things i don't like about Nigerians, Mr Omitade is a true Hero in my book. I would have done the same thing. If i was on that plane, i would have politely asked all Africans (Not just Nigerians) to exit the plane. The white people cares about their money and they would not fly an empty plane to Lagos. And if you don't fly that plane you are entitled to refund of your money. This is called a non-violent protest of our rights. These Oyinbo people do these things to us because they feel like we will not do anything. It's high time we start fighting together as a black race, because if we don't. It can only get worse. Thank you so much Mr Omitade. THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS I CAN NEVER LIVE IN BRITAIN! THEY ARE BACKWARDS. NO CIVIL RIGHT, NO MINORITY RIGHT PROTECTION. I SAY BOYCOTT, BRITISH AIRWAYS NOWWW!

@D-reloaded

Your reasoning are very shallow. So because the man is being brutalized and being deported, he should have been quiet?? Or they should have a separate plane for deportees because they make some kind of noise. Like this is your father's land. You failed to realize that most of these white law enforcement officers are very overzealous. Even though, the man is illegal in the country yet he still deserve some kind of human dignity but i guess you failed to realize that because you think these white officers are God !! Your first reply was highly repugnant. If all the blacks and the minority in the world adopt your views, slavery and lynching will still be in existence today. Thank God for acts of people like Dr. Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks and Mr Omitade on that "Brutalized" airways plane.  GET REAL WILL YA? AND LOOK THESE WHITE FOLKS IN THE EYES, THEY ARE NOTHING MORE THAN HUMANS !! I wonder how they treat you on the job, i bet you roll over for them.

Brutalized? Where's the proof he WAS brutalized? If he went willingly, they wouldn't have had to drag him off the aircraft like a goat being led to the slaughter! He had a choice to walk off the aircraft with his dignity intact, or get dragged off, kicking an screaming. Unfortunately, he chose the latter.

so what are they to do. not deport them. even Nigeria deports people. these people scream and shout because they want the pilot not to take them.
it has happened often enough that a pilot refuses or that passangers refuse.

Did you even understand what I wrote you, pompous moron. First off I said I didnt support Omotade's arrest albeit for different reasons than other people. Btw why the hell shouldnt they be quiet? NO WHERE did it say that he was being brutalized. Blind lunatic. It said "the man kept saying I go die", Nowhere did it say he wa being "brutalized", obviously he was making noise to get attention o he was thinking about the disgrace to which he'd be returning to Nigeria, are you insane? just because you go around with your low rent airlines when you travel and are used to brutes screaming doesnt mean I shouldnt at least speak for those that have to listen to such garnbage when they actually PAID  real money to enjoy their flights. I still maintain that they should have their own planes and if you have a problem with that, you can always go to hell. Currently there is an action group in the UK known as no borders who want to ban all deportations on commerical flights I agree with this.  If I paid over £500 for a flight I don't want to see a horror show onboard.
Its not pretty to see people screaming for their lives,

@D-reloaded

Your posts said it all, "An untrained goof who thinks the life begins and ends in chasing after boys". I'd rather chase after a 13 years old than have a "Half date" with you". Did i miss your quotes about Rosa parks too?  You run up and down Nairalland with a loose mouth, why don't you get a grip? What is fun in some deportees getting beat by some overzealous immigration officer? Will getting a separate plane for deportees stop the attitudes of those idiots towards Africans? You don't get, do you? I bet if that guy was a chinese or an American, that ugly scene would not have taken place. It's high time we respect ourselves and quit sucking these white boys' balls. But i'm sure you wouldn't understand, it wasn't in your training manual !! You pay-less shoes , half dollar, money grabbing loose mouthed heifer !! Angry Angry

Taye do your reserach you can never stop deportations not only the UK deports you know.

But at the end of the day it is wrong to throw these people back to their homelands in such a public and often violent manner.

It is also wrong to inflict this kind of horror on those who have bought tickets to go on holiday or whatever.

You can talk why is it when people are deported back to Nigeria they go straight to prison!!!  How can you talk about other nations treating Africans badly when in their own homeland they are treated far worse!
