@Sienna

Who told you Omotade was aggressive? The man did the proper thing by speaking up against the maltreatment of his fellow African. That's a definition of a man's "Ball". something i'm sure you don't understand. Even if Omotade didn't speak up, it's dam n you Dam n you don't !! British airways has been doing this sh*t for a long and that's why i banned myself from ever flying them. It's not only Africans, they did the same thing to Naomi Campbell, Snoop Dog amongst others. What Omotade did is a justifiable protest against an "eye sore". Most european airlines are not any better. I remember KLm doing similar thing to a Nigerian woman in Holland over some $20 over charge. Thank God me and another guy was present on that spot, Other Nigerian men just stood there like a log and looked on. Can you imagine a grown woman getting abused in front of her children over some $20 bill? The white lady even apologized (after the incidents and after some threat of calling the police).Because we made it known to her that she was wrong. IT'S HIGH TIME AFRICANS START SPEAKING UP AND QUIT FEARING THESE OPPRESSORS. WE DID NOTHING TO DESERVE MOST OF THE ABUSE WE GET BOTH AT HER HOME AND ABROAD.

Sweet T, sorry but your's is misplaced patriotism.
On this same thread there were reports of whites being removed from airlines for disturbing the peace, none of them is crying racism and threatening to boycott the airline.
We all know how Nigerians behave, we seem to think aggression, shouting and being unruly are the best ways to solve a problem. Unfortunately i doubt if the pilot is willing to risk his life with unruly passengers at 50000ft in the air.

To start with the deportee was in gross violation of recognised law, to plead on his behalf is more confirmation to the British authorities that we are a people who condone illegality.

To start with, are they the ones oppressing us at home? If they were so wicked why are we in their country in the first place?
Why don't you get your own airline before you talk of boycotting theirs?

http://card.wordpress.com/2007/02/25/nigeria-cracks-down-on-illegal-aliens/

Nigeria is cracking down on “illegal aliens” from neighbouring countries whom the authorities call a “nuisance”. Niger and Chad seem to have been singled out in the clampdown with thousands of their nationals packed into lorries and taken to the border,

Taye do your reserach you can never stop deportations not only the UK deports you know.

But at the end of the day it is wrong to throw these people back to their homelands in such a public and often violent manner.

It is also wrong to inflict this kind of horror on those who have bought tickets to go on holiday or whatever.

You can talk why is it when people are deported back to Nigeria they go straight to prison!!!  How can you talk about other nations treating Africans badly when in their own homeland they are treated far worse!

Not sure why you are still responding to the omo ale. He has yet to show where this deportee was beibg "beat up". Olori buruku eyan

@Mamput
It's easier for you to say that in the cozy of your home. People all over the world migrate from one spot to the other for different reasons. Most Nigerians do it because of the harsh economic condition @ home. But regardless of time being up or not, Treat African deportee as you would an American deportee or a Chinese. We are all human and possess certain human dignity. The Deported Nigerian must have had it so bad for him to yell out in pain. These people know it's against their own law to brutalize or torture anybody but they do it because it's "AFRICANS".

No American will disgrace himself living as an illegal alien anywhere in the world.
Until we get our own house in order and stop paying (this)honorable legislators $1000/day in lunch money then we have no right to ask for "dignity" when we are caught violating the laws of other lands.

the issue is not the deportation per se as the guy being deported must have found himself in some compromising situation. the issues here are first the inhuman conditions that these actions are carried out in, fine the guy had done wrong, enough to earn have him extricated from that society, but does that justify his being treated under subhuman conditions?

secondly, i learned that when a fellow nigerian raised objection as to the manner of his compatriot being mis handled, which he had every right to, he was detained prior to the protestations of other nigerian passengers which earned them this ejection. is that the right thing to do? methinks that the nigerian who spoke up performed an heroic act, that in the intimidating face of the british law enforcement agencies he could speak up on the rights of not only a fellow nigerian, but a human being entitled to some certain level of dignity.

one might break the law, but the punishment for that is deportation abi, what is the crime for the meting out of inhuman treatment that the guy was given? what about the inconvenience and embarrassment of detention suffered by that brave guy who spoke up? what about the very many appointments and schedules of the over 100 stranded passengers that either had to be cancelled or rescheduled? what is the reaction of the officials that are concerned with our diplomatic and crossboarder relations?

it is a pity that everyday nigerians are the ones doing our image laundry with their various laudable exploits in their various fields of endeavour while the government and her agencies are busy tarnishing her image with their wanton greed, corruption and crass inefficiency. let the spirit of the nigerian soar like the eagle emblazoned on our coat of arms, na our naija and no oyibo is superior to me meeen. i support the total boycott of anything british airways until their government tender an unreserved apology and adequate compensation to the gentleman who was detained without valid reason, the disembarked passengers should sue for a breach of contract and emotional damages and the airline in question should be sanctioned by the necessary authorities both in the uk and nigeria (if possible).

if we no give ourselves respect, they would'nt give it to us, and no be all nigerians be bad people, that's the message that we should tell the world. . .

@Lady T

Sweetheart, there is nothing wrong in deportation but do it with some kind of dignity and human right. The only reasons why most of these airlines are doing these things are because Africans, especially Nigerians refuse to act. There is power in Economic power. And if Nigerians start flying a lesser abusive airline and document the abuse from British airways by taking photographs of the ills that happened to that deportee and posting it online or sending it to media outlets, most of these abuses will stop. Because they know bad publicity is bad for business, no passenger (Be it Japanese or American) wants to hear or see any bad news about the airline they are flying.

thats just the problem Nigerians and other Africans do not go with dignity. they scream like goats being slaughtered in the hope that people like  poor Mr o will protest and that way they will have more time to work on their stay.
but this time someone wanted to set an example so that the bushdrum will sing out that sometimes yelling dose not help.

Bros, the Americans are probably silenting taking notes from their British cousins on how to deal with unruly Nigerians. The Japanese are even stricter when it comes to illegal aliens, i doubt if they will bat an eyelid over Nigerian boycotts.

People will still fly BA, you can boycott it from now till Christ comes, as long as you don't have the mental capacity to get your own airline you will still crawl back to beg them at the end of the day or continue flying around the world just to move from London to Lagos.
How many "lesser abusive" airlines are flying direct to Lagos?

The world has changed since 9/11
it use to be Anti- terrorism now its Counter-terrorism
before someone does or even gets a chance to do something stupid, he is taken down.
I bet Omo, was well aware of the heighten-security level at the airport. the red, orange whatever. most airports have it
If the deportee was treated badly - which I seriously doubt - he should have kept his mouth shut and complained in
a place more suitable for that.
There are various signs that if you exhibit, you will be treated as a terrorist-  speaking recklessly to any law enforcement agency on a airplane counts as one.
