What To Look For When Buying Inverters
« on: April 16, 2008, 11:35 AM »

Many of us face constant power failure and we need power back up.  The inverter happens to be a very convenient alternative power source, however, inverter is essentially a back up power source.  That means when you want to buy inverter you don't just buy a very big one because you want it to power all your appliances or because you can afford it.  This might not only waste your money but it might also become counter productive.  When you want to buy inverter you have to access your power need and your regular power supply time.  These factors are very important or else you might just waste a lot of money and get very little back in return.

These are the factors you need to consider.

How long and regular do you have main power supply. if you power supply is hardly available you might consider using inverter for few essentials thing because if you attempt to use in inverter for many appliance your might never get to enjoy the inverter because your batteries will never get fully charged knowing you have to use many Ah and the charging power are generally the same for both low V and high KV inverters.  No only will your inverter not workwell,  your batteries will get damaged fast since they will be down most of the time, but if you have power supply most of the time in a day either from the national supply or from a generator and you only need back up for an hour or two then you can go for a big inverter that will carry all you equipments. However, if you have power supply occasionally use the inverter for few essential things this way the little charge on the battery will back up for quite considerable time, it will also save money and additional batteries you will buy for high power inverter which will not deliver at all.

This is to add further that even if you have power supply most of the day and you need to back up all your equipment, just getting a high inverter might not solve the problem.  for example, if you power need is 5KW for 2hrs a day. you will need constant power supply for a long time to charge your batteries sufficiently on most inverters which might not be available hence you might consider taking some load off the inverter or going for inverter with high charging power which are not generally available and will cost a lot much more.
