LIFTING OF RESTRED VISA APPLICATION SERVICE
The British High Commission has the pleasure to announce that with effect from 22 July 2008, it will begin to lift the restrictions on its visa service. Our customers will be aware that we were unfortunately forced to implement restrictions on our service due to unavoidable technical problems at the Deputy High Commission in Lagos. All categories of visa applications can now be submitted. However, the British High Commission wishes to let its customers know that we are still forced to run a limited service for first time travellers to the UK. Those who have not travelled to the UK previously should book an appointment to submit their application at our Commercial Partner's offices (VFS in Abuja, Lagos, Ikeja or Ibadan. Appointments can be made at www.ukvac-ng.com. Those who do not book an appointment may not be able to submit an application at the VFS office. If your trip is not urgent the British High Commission advises you may wish to wait a few weeks before applying by when we hope our normal service will be restored. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.Got this from their website so u can apply in Lagos now

@pIPMASTER
Listed below are the basic requirements for a UK family visit visa.
*Valid international passport. *Six months bank statement-try to avoid lump deposit of money. *Photocopies of the applicant's I.D card-school id, work id,nysc id, etc. *Covering letter from the bank confirming the authenticity of the bank statement. *Letter of identification from employer or from applicant's university or school. *Letter of annual leave or vacation or 'permission to travel' from employer or applicant's school. *Tax clearance certificate of the applicant or that of the sponsor. *Invitation letter from relative in UK clearly stating his home address and telephone number, nature of relationship to applicant, purpose of the visit, etc. *Coloured copy of sponsor's biodata passport page. *Utility bills of the sponsor or applicants <not really necccessary though. *Mortgage or tenancy deeds of sponsor *Six months payslips of sponsor *Property deeds of the applicant (if the applicant is a dependant, he should attach the property deeds of his parents) *CSCS share certificates (i can't remember what it is called, but the pdocument from CSCS listing all the stocks and their value that an individual has in the Nigerian Stock Market) *Any other financial document- bonds, fixed deposits, etc.

Did your "sibling" who stayed back do so by breaking the rules of the visa category regulation? If so, i'm afraid the visa officer will not trust you this time, so, this development will affect you and most likely result in refusal. mind you, people are refused visas based on account of their family member travel/immigration history.

@vanessa_ra even though your sibling has broken the visa regulations its not enough reason to be refused again.

Help anonymous? Help Fake Fake?
Even though i knew how to go around fake Statements but why must we promote criminality?
Remember there is a stigma following Nigerians wherever we go, when are we going to remove that stigma? This has nothing to do with Yaradua but us(Nigerians).
I am sorry if i am too harsh maybe Oluwafunmike and Pataki would help in this.
Me ke?? Lai lai. Besides, the case is rather complicated. Fake this, fake that . . .

It's not compulsory to make payments, but it is advisable to do that,it makes your application more credible, try to make payments for your accommodation ( hostel or apartment ) where you would live when you're there. There are a lot of threads here on Nairaland that have tackled this issue try to read up on them. 1 x

Anything above half (50%) is best, and once again make sure you have sorted out/paid for accomodation before applying, that's a very easy way to get refused.

please what can she do as she wants to apply for student visa, though someone advice her not to include her waec certificate in her application,if she do this would she not be questioned by ECO. please DVICE ON WHAT SHE SHOULD DO.THANKS.

@ Bomata
If she applies with the WAEC Cert, with diffrent birthdays from her passport,he application would surely be rejected,it would also being her credibilty in question, since the ECO would call her a liar. SHe ca forget about ever going to the UK in the near future. If she applies without WAEC,she would also be rejected, and be told she didn't add her WAEC result. SHE WOULD SURELY BE ASKED FOR HER WAEC RESULT ! Her best bet is to visit WAEC talk to them,"grease a few palms" if you know what i mean.If she rallys around it can come out in a few days. Na Nigeria be this.

Can I apply from here or do I go back to my country to apply? Also, what documents will I need to show at the embassy if i can apply for the stay here. I also will like to know if it is possible to convert from a dependent visa to a student visa and what the requirements are. Thanks a lot.

Hello everyone in the house,i just got a refusal from the BHC today. I have applied twice this year, and my refusal today was very flimsy and really put me in a sad mood. I applied for a tourist visa and my uncle was my sponsor,we were supposed to travel together and had made a hotel reservation. He is a top banker, and I added his letter of sponsorship stating his is a banker, his statement of account ( balance of N 2,000,000),with over N 50,000,000 run through this year.He ever used that same account for his Visa renewal two months back,But i was refused, I would like to know what you all think,If i should appeal this ? Or i should quickly reapply adding other documents, and what documents you think I should add. I really need everyones help & contribution. I have added the notice of refusal below - The cost of the visit to the UK is to be borne by your uncle. You have submitted evidence of the funds. However, this document largely stands in isolation as evidence of your uncle’s financial circumstances and commitments. You have failed to provide any evidence of the origin of the funds and the over all financial circumstances of your uncle. For example you have not provided any evidence of his financial commitments, business turnover, profilt or disposable income. In absence of any other evidence of his business income or the origin of the, I am not satisfied that the evidence presented is a true reflection of your uncle's financial circumstance or that these funds would be available. In light of this, I am therefore not satisfied that you will be adequately maintain and accommodate yourself in the UK or that you can meet the costs of your return or onward journey as required by Paragraph 41 (vi) or (vii) of HC 395 I am awaiting everyones help. Thanks

Anyway lets tackle it briefly. The information you gave us is too vague so we cannot but ask you questions. Questions1) Is the hotel reservation in your name or joint names or Uncle's name? 2) What personal documents do you add? 3) Do you submit Uncle's payslips? 4) How much do Uncle earn a year? 5) Is there any other income coming into the uncle's account from other sources? Please give us as much info as possible

Basically you did not show origin of his funds. Did you add his pay slips to show his earnings? What other sources of income acrues to him?
If you were given appeal, i think his better you go for it.
