Gaddammm!!! Y'all are pretty fast, I wasn't expecting this many responses already.   Tongue  Keep 'em coming sha.

Ive been told that you can ensure your safety in any part of Lag by hiring or a MOPOL or Police unit.  Basically paying them to be like your guards and all.  Thing is am not sure if these people can be trusted either way.  I mean, say you hire someone to give you that extra sense of security for a little bit and then let them go, who's to say that they won't get their friends to pay you a visit after they are gone.  Or even while they're still in your pay, who's to say they won't set you up in some way or the other.

I am liking the Island and Ikoyi.  Most people  seem to think that those are the safest areas as well.  But am not done making a decision yet, so keep the comments coming people.  Mucho appreciado =!!!!

thats totally wrong,we v always lived in ikeja near g.r.a,in my house we have 3 opc and  2 normal securities and also at the street gate leading to ours they have  at least 5 mixture of opc and private securities,so trust me mopol or police unit will take off at the first sign of gun shots,the opc are even better, you don't wana know how much it is to get a house in ikoyi,theres a flat near my friend's house 2.2million per year to let 2 bedroom lol but i think lekki's more affordable, still checking it out tho

You cannot rely on them. Don't even hire security men because they will come behind to betray you. You can only depend on your self awareness/defense.  Your dogs cannot betray you if properly trained. You also need your weapons BUT NOBODY should know about it. If you want to hire the service of a security guard,let him be outside and not in your house.

Oshodi has to be the safest place. Reason: all the thieves leave from there and go to Ikoyi and V/I to rob; plus no one dares go to their den (oshodi) to rob.

dude!!
safe? in lagos? Huh
ok try ikeja army cantonment or the dodan baracks in lagos, or yes! NAF base ikeja, the only catch is you have to make sure you work in there, go to church in there and have all your friends and relatives in there so you never have to go out of the baracks, even then,
remember the ikeja bomb blasts! Grin
bottomline, you are only safe if God says so!

Lagos is generally safe. But I'll advice that you avoid the police and don't take buses at night; okadas are safer at night.

You can make your as safe as you want - dogs, motion detectors, surveillance cameras, guns, ammo, etc. But the problem is when you go outside. The shorter your commute to work, grocery store, entertainment venue, etc. the less you're exposed to the possibility of harm. In essence, find a place closest to where you work.

nowhere in Lagos is safe or unsafe. but i know a few places,  i know areas in ikeja where robbies frequent and i know areas in n keja where robbies seem to not car about. my est8 for instance hasnt had any single case of unwanted guest in ages. am talking of wemabod estate(near wahum on adeniyi jones). aba jonston estate(akora) is a good place to stay too. heard some parts of lekki are safe but not all. my friends in magodo say good things about the place too. just that their light is not as good as ajegunle's. my friend runs on ngenerator all day and all night. i heard ikeja gra is safe too. ut i love my wemabod estate because only 1gate leads in nand out. and there are only 5streets. we have a police divisional headquaters in there. we don't get cases of robbies or touting. i call it vgc in ikeja.

@poster,

I think 'damola1' as said it all. if you consider working in the island, it will be ideal you live in the island because of traffic. Talking about safe areas on the island, most of the estate now in lekki and ikoyi are trying in terms of security but for now i will say V.G.C is where the highest security is deployed for now in terms of protecting resident. 'to live there is expensive thought' apart from security operatives deploy within and outside the estate;

They are the only estate for now in Nigeria where access control gate is been deploy. i.e the access control gate recognize all the resident cars and wont open for any non resident cars. if you a are visitor, you will need to pass through the security checkpoint where you will be screened and if entry is granted you will be monitor till you get to the house you re visiting, the time spent there till you leave. if entry is denied and you try to force entrance, 'your car is a write-off and a serious accident can occur and might endanger life courtesy of their access control bollard.

To crown it up, its only God that can safe guard us. there is no where that is not prone to attack by the 'big boys'

If you can live in New York city, You can live in Lagos.

No where is safe in Lagos. I was back in Nigeria for the MBGN 08 after the show we went clubbing in VI. My sis and her friends went to some night club (I think reloded or Jades place not shure) Anyway it got robbed right in front of everbody. Not to mention one of your top artists while we were back stage said he got robbed on the way to the show.

Top 5 safe place to live for we poor people.

1. Ajegunle-Jungle city: Poor thif headquarters. This nah the area command of thieves. Cheesy Smiley Grin Grin If you wan report a thif recruit, no go police station oh, go here Smiley Smiley Smiley.
A recriut found thieving will lose his thieving priviledges and will never thif again. The ultimate price for thieving in this area is jungle justice by shouting OLE!!!!!.

2. Kirikiri: Come see how thif dey die for here nah. Becos of this, plenty thif for Kirikiri dey on reserve and retired status Grin Grin Grin. This nah the only place you go find sey even police sef nah thif.

3. Oshodi: Thif wey no from Oshodi no dey thif from here. Whether nah Alaye oh, abi area father, you go find them in different shapes, tribes and specialities practising some form of thievery. Just show your membership badge (eyes like person wey smoke plenty gbana, severely contoured head, no front teeth, your jagudaness) and you fit tiff the whole oshodi safely all you want.

4. Okota: If you think only strong christains do night vigil, come to Okota after 7 and see wonders. A trial will convice you.  Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley.

5. Iyanoba: Awon University thieves. As many hold-ups you jam here, as many thieves dey this place. This nah where the school for highway thievery dey.

Iyanoba School of Thievery offers courses in Applied klept. studies, Mechanical break ins and Stealth robbery all at a no charge sign up fee.

No where is safe except Heaven. If God doesn want anything to happen, it will never happen even if the area is known for civil unrest/social vices. Your present can turn a blessing to the area just because you believe intoto in God.

I have been working in Allen/Opebi for some years now. During these years I have never heard of any unrest including hi-tech incessant robbery but rare even as they pull the highest population of banks and serious money spinning businesses. But catchy is incident of 419ers which I don't see as a problem. You fall a victim when you are desperate to make money you never laboured hard for. That's up to an individual.

So, the choice is yours. Don't be afraid of the unknown, I am sure you are a CHRISTIAN!
