My breasts are small, and am about having my first baby. I want to breast feed her exclusively but my husband is afraid the breast may go flat or become smaller after the breast feeding. infact he suggests I don't breast feed at all to avoid sagging or reduction in size of my breast.
But I have tried to make him understand the importance of breast milk to the health and growth of children, now he has agrees I should breast feed, but each time he looks at the breast he makes comment like: I wonder how this your breast will look like after this baby sucks it. That points to me that if my breast change so much after breast feeding it might bring a kind of problem between me and my husband.
Please I want to know if there is anything I can do to prevent it from sagging during or after breast feeding.

most Nigerian men adores their partners breast especially if u are loved by your husband. husbands wants their wife to do certain things for them, in your own case i think that is what your man admires in u, one of the things that drives him crazy when u are in the room together. My advice is u should breast feed your baby at least for 3months then support it with baby food.

Do not compromise breast milk for any other substitute,
And for your breast reducing in size after breast feeding your baby,
I believe reverse is the case.
Best of Luck.

It's not necessarily so that every woman losses the firmness of her breast due to/after breastfeeding. The reason many African women find their breast weaken after breastfeeding period is usually due to the ignorance or negligence to take appropriate care of their breasts especially during earlier ages. I remember those days when Nigerian girls were too shy to wear bras because, it was believed that bras are for women who already have shrink breasts. What a misunderstanding. Even now, most Nigerian young girls would rather wear multiple top clothes so as to prevent their bras from being seen or discovered. The fact that in western countries, most women (even after breastfeeding) still retain considerable firm breast, explains that the breast can be taken care of. The number one most deadly enemy of a woman breasts is the wrapper which most Nigerian women tie around their chest and back: researches shown that girls or women who tie wrappers around their chests at one point or the other is more likely to loss the firmess of her breast, or at least, loses the original shape of their breasts due to the pressure of the wrappers which mould their breasts into undesired shapes: and such women are very likely to have shrink breasts with wrinkles or stretch-mark after breastfeeding. I do encourage the use of bras by young teenagers before the breasts grow to full sizes because, this indeed give protection to the breasts; making them have longer lifespan for later benefits. Another deadly thing for the breast, is negligence of wearing bras: this is because, the breasts are heavy and will definitely weigh themselves down, and this alone is enough to weaken their firmness thus changing their original shapes as they yield to pressure. The bras are not designed for packing "flat" breasts, but rather, for supporting long lasting normal breasts. Now, except for any other solid reasons, i encourage you to breastfeed your baby: this is not supposed to be compromised with your subsequent breast condition after all, the breasts are there for your babies, not for your husband. So, do not compromise your baby's welfare with your husband's desire. But if you need further assistant, consult your Doctor. Cheers

I must thank everybody who contributed positively to help me. You know what am having my baby soon and am thinking of doing exclusive breastfeeding which might entail expressing the milk with either manual breast pump or electric. I know I should be asking my doctor all these, but I feeel shy to ask him some things because he teases alot and am a very shy person. Thats the reason I feel free to ask the question here because no one knows me. But the advice might go along way to helping me.

I actually responded to your enquiry with the expectation that you live in Nigeria . Yes, like i said before: ". . .except for any other solid reasons, i encourage you to breastfeed your baby: this is not supposed to be compromised with your subsequent breast condition after all, the breasts are there for your babies, not for your husband. So, do not compromise your baby's welfare with your husband's desire". Think about this. It's not actually professional for a Doc to tease his patient, i suppose little does he know that some people could be sensible to his Teasing attitude. Yet, however, he's the appropriate person to give the ultimate suggestions since he sees you in person.
