Why Do They Keep 'shaming' Us?
« on: April 23, 2008, 01:04 PM »

Hi,

I have always enjoyed keeping in touch by reading most of the posts on here and I have made a few friends since I joined last year. Anyways, going straight to the point, here I was in my room studying as I've got an essay due 2mrw, with my TV on but on mute. I raised my head up just to see what the headlines was and decided to give it volume to heat what they had to say.  Lo and behold, the first thing talked about on Five news 'half 12' was how people's information, personal details, Credit card numbers, mobile number, address etc can now be found somewhere online. Apparently some crooks have compiled lists of names of people they can now use for their shady business and if you are like the other low life who use their brain for nothing other than cunning people out of their hard earned cash or use people to get something that isn’t theirs, then the website is there for your use.

Anyhoo! Long story short, the name mentioned through investigation by five news reporter was a 'Henry' and your guess is right, from Nigeria. It’s a shame. Here's a link as I can’t even describe the whole scenario

Imagine you meeting someone abroad and them asking where you are from? It’s a shame as we are so associated with this 419 business that its beginning to be like a second skin to people (as in we don’t even care what others say). Sometime last year, on Sky news or was it BBC I can’t remember, I was attracted to a particular story on 419 because they used Nkem Owos' 'I go chop your dollar' in the report saying this is what we normally do. It is embarrassing. When will we ever make a good name for ourselves? We shouldn’t say it doesn’t concern us as we are the people who make up the country and it is us that need to address the situation. I just wanted to hear peoples view on this one.

Cheers x
