Which Nigerian Artists Will One Day Bring Grammy Award To Nigeria?
« on: April 23, 2008, 01:14 PM »

i think Faze and Tuface will one day bring grammy award to this country because Faze sounds more like foriegn and great voice to compete with any other international artiste and Tuface doesn`t sound much like foreign (too much pidgin) but always makes hits that every body in the world can relate with.

that`s my view, so what`s ur view?

Honestly, I reckon Asha would probably achieve that feat or Suny ade, I know I know, but a lot of Europeans and Americans love them somy Sunny. Its petty cool. I reckon out the two anyway. In terms of our current stock of musicians a la 2face, faze p square, i reckon D'Banj due to his showmanship and flare really. He balances it all out and you can see him picking them up already as per MTV this MTV that.  Who knows eh?
By the way, walked into Starbucks this morning and voila, who is this on the stereo system, it is Asa - Jailer lol

Hmmm, nice one. In which category of music. Fuji, ? We have a few grammy materials here in this country. For now, the ones i can suggest is ASA and Modenine. For you to get a grammy, you almost have to ignore the nigerian mentality of making music  and make something universal. Not in pidgin english ooooo but ur mother tongue could be better. Lots of Nigerians mistake pidgin english to mean mother tongue. Your have to cut accross different minds with ur music.

As it is, lots of Ngerians don't want to make it real, as in how it should be done. Grammy would rewar originality not copy copy and overlifitng which means lots of our artistes are not eligible,

I reckon modenine and ASA are grammy materials,

P-square, Face, Modenine? Far from it! You can't beat the oyinbos in their own game.

Asa and Femi Kuti -  grammy materials.

2Face, Dbanj, 9ice - still growing but may get their someday.

i agree with you on asha, femi kuti and also 2face and dbanj but count 9ice out. i`m also one of his great fan but that will not stop me to say the fact that he is not a grammy material. the only thing that makes that guy unique is the way he blends that konk yoruba lyrics into new version of music and this can only be understand by western people that really understand the language. even in nigeria at the moment some people confess they love him for been rave of the moment but find it hard to understand most of his lyrics. and u know lyrics really matters in awards.

SUNNY ADE, Nnenna, ASA, FEMI KUTI-Grammy materials. It's as simple as that. These dudes qualify.Waiting for the day one of our own finally gets that hard to get peak of success.

I find these divas and maestros Grammy worthy.ASA-Her music deserves the applause. She's a diva for sure.Nnenna-Her voice drives me insane.I'm a staunch fan of her music, style and cause.
2FACE IDIBIA-His success and wide appeal to the masses is unquestionable.
MODENINE-He is a lyricist with international appeal.

I agree with you PSqure are not original and cannot beant the oyinbos in their game. They copy copy and sample people's music/beats.

Mode 9 on the other hand can beat lots of american rappers when it comes to lyricism. You need to hear what the american rappers themselves say about him, Wi.lli.am of Black eyed peas, Wyclef, Talib and all,   He is indeed a grammy material,

the boy will fade into oblivion in the next few years. he's already getting overshadowed by wande coal and people have been taking notice of his little talent as a result

the koko thing is beyond played out and he has little international appeal so i don't know on what grounds you guys are basing this on

his performing ability won't get him a grammy, LOL

I doesn't have  to sound foreign for nigerian artist to win grammy, there are so many great nigerian indigenous artists that deserves more than grammy, untouchable Fela in his blessed memory, post humus award, late Osita Osadebe, kwam 1,Oriental brothers,Bright Chimezie, name them, not those oyinbo mimicking ones.,nothing new.

Music business is about politics, superiority, originality, money making and promotions, talk of reggea music, that have been pushed to the background.even with it  danceable and uplifting messages, message of truth and light,

Let us learn to love and appreciate our own music and create our grammies if we care.Presentation.

when last did femi kuti release anything to the market. consistency counts if you want to make an impact in the international markets. right now, asa is the only one in contention for a grammy, maybe there are others out there, can't tell.

Honestly i think that it has to be p-square
because i mean everyone that's from naija knows about them
like the're goin place
I mean they've got the looks, the talents, the body evrything about them is jus wonderful.
God bless their mother for bringing them to this world
and it could be 9ice to
but nowadayz no one hears about 2face so i don't think it can be 2 face
because it's time gas come and gone

MODENINE? hell naaaa, common man, nice is closer to a Grammy than modenine, modenine does not even appeal to americans if u don't knw, his accent is annoying, he appeals to naija boys that know about real hip hop, even those that do his kind of rap in america re so far from a grammy today like, KRS1, RAKEEM, DEAD PREZ,.
modenine tries to rap the NY style but he don't sound NY so it makes his material fake and terrible to grammy standard, Besides i don't picture an african rapper winning a grammy for rap. Americans don't even give UK artist grammy's that easily. Did anybody ever wonder why they only give our artist Thse awards in African categories and most of them like dbanj and tufaces MTV were actually given to them in a ceremony two days before the actual event, i think its only 2faces MOBO award that was on the main event, so lets just be ok with our African category for new or support our own up coming awards like HHW awards ans soundcity and someday we might just create  one yankee category fir them,
