@Akola Efan Ekoku was a national deception ! Rikky was an international deception !!! which left-footed player is that ? ISAAC SEMITOJE ?

Isaac Semitoje was in the super eagles team as a squad player. He was not really an integral part of the team
As for the stuff about some players doing well in club sides and not hitting it big in the national team, well that is not new. But that is not enough reason to start drafting any tom , privates and harry into the national team. I still maintain that call-ups should purely on merit and form. And that is why I question Odejayi's inclusion. I feel that there are other players out there that have earned the right to be called up but were over looked and suddenly Odejayi scores a solitary goal and he is called up.

see . . .what we are saying is; THIS HAPPENS EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD !!! u just wonder what a coach sees in a player that he merits a call-up . . .give or take the player shapes up or ships out . . .it can be that hard ? call-ups never guaranatee a place in the squad . . . . .do u know how many players usually get called up at age-grade level ? do u remember how many players Onigbinde gave a chance to prove themselves ? even at that OGBECHE was still able to fool all of us with a sangalo bicycle-kick against Scotland or so unfortunately, do u know footie is also about luck and destiny. else u should be clamouring for Amodu to go watch matches at Evans square at Ebute-metta, Apollo at Ketu, Ajegunle, Agege stadium, etc to go discover the numerous talents that abound there . . .

I really don't know why that guy did not make it Anyway, You can't compare Ogbeche and Odejayi. Ogbeche was in PSG then and, honestly, most people saw him as a real potential. It was natural that he would be called up then. That he did not make it is another story One more thing with the Kayode thing, it is not as if we are in dire need of strikers right now. So why should we be going down to the lower division to source for strikers. We have a plethora of strikers right now. What we are seriously missing in the national team is a natural hoding midfielder (in the ike Oliseh) and a very gifted attacking midfielder (someone in the mould of Jay Jay). If those were the positions that Amodu was calling in untested players, then I would not be raising much alarm.

IMO, Ogbeche was very unlucky. Things happened too quickly for him and I guess he lost confidence. But he was really unlucky. So far, he is the only player that has made Martins look really good in a Nigerian shirt in that friendly against Ireland. I feel really sorry for Ogbeche. Every time I went to watch Naija match, he really impressed me.

Lol . . . . Ogbeche made Martins look good against Ireland . . story how many games has Martins played fantastically well for Naija . . . . for me Martins is just another over-bloated average lucky player . . . . .how many competitions have u seen Martins ever top the charts @Uchenna u said we have a phletora of attackers right now . . . .pray tell how many goals was ALMIGHTY NAIJA-AREA ABLE TO MANAGE AT THE LAST WORLD CUP ? this with your so-called SUPER-DUPER STRIKERS YAKUBU, OSAZE, MARTINS AND THAT DORK - MAKINWA only Uche and Nsofor showed that in the future, we would have players to rely upon

@ MC Omo, You meant, at the nations cup, I think the Nigerian Press have to be blamed also for overbloating the club performances of our players. I wasn't shocked at the disastrous outing. In fact, I was shocked that we qualified from our group!!! As for me, let Amodu invite Odejayi or Dele Adebola orAkinbiyi or any of them naija ballers in division 1 Invitation does not mean they will make the team.At least, they have been given a chance.

@ Mc
Well, it is very obvious that they are really under peforming when it comes to national assignments. I am willing to wager that the problem is more of tactical than talent. Apart from those strikers, we also have up coming ones like Ike Kalu and Joseph Akpala whom I believe emerged as the top marks man in belgium. So the future is not exactly bleak in the striking department. To mould all these guys into one vicious force in Africa is another matter. I just hope Amodu is up to the task.
Now we can list about 5 to 6 strikers ; how about the wing play. How many natural wingers do we have in our team today? The few times Nigeria have done well in senior tournament we have always done that on the strenght of our wing play. The finidis, babangida's , Amuneke's all come to mind. If Odejayi was a player in that mould (and I don't even mean in terms of quality) I would not be screaming my head off.

Adeolu Adekola . . . . .oh my dayze !!!
why r u hurting me . . .making me go back to 'em days ? Adeolu is by far one of the best players to have donned the national colors . . . . .haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa . . . . . Sad
am left speechless at remembering how u almost couldnt lose a bet on Adeolu Adekola scoring 1st in any match played . . . Cry
I mentioned Olumide Harris because even tho he underachieved he still made his mark in the naija footie scene, something which the likes of uchenna would not agree with . . . Was it the Adeolu Adekola in the Chile 87 team that could not score a goal with Ene Okon , Etim Essin, Another player that comes to mind is Chikelue Iloenyosi. . . .he had allegedly retired from football and was working as an auto importer when he was still being called up for the national team I remember one guy that held the ball in the box in National Stadium against Eritrea claiming he heard a whistle from the crowd @MC, Semitoje was a defender , And he played for an Eastern team I think Iwuanyawu but I can't still remember the guy you were talking about. Hope not Taofik Malik, Ishaya Jatau, or Julius Akpele I am willing to wager that the problem is more of tactical than talent. Apart from those strikers, we also have up coming ones like Ike Kalu and Joseph Akpala whom I believe emerged as the top marks man in belgium I disagree I think Nigeria lacks the talent to play quality football at the highest level. All our players are grossly overrated How many of them play regularly in top European teams. In this UEFA champions league only Mikel and Taiwo played so where are the talents? We are just like a Little better than South Africa All noise no Action.

@Dayokanu Adeolu Adekola was not to blame for the team not scoring at Chile 87 . . .he remains one of the best players to have played for us I remember Isaac was a defender . . .and definitely it couldnt have been Jatau because even when he emerged highest goalscorer in the league here he didnt cut the grade with the team and of course . . .Nigeria doesnt lack talents to play at the highest level, what we lack is DISCIPLINE on the part of the players

Una don remind me of Ogbeche. Bartho Old Man when he was at FGC Ogojadon't ask me why they called him "Old Man" then. @Akola Which left-footed player? Na Barnabas Inienger or Dimeji Lawal? The latter was useless,he managed to score a goal against Togo in our 3-0 win and everyone thought he was the real deal. What about people like Sam Pam and Precious Monye?Believe me,I have seen some horrible call-ups in my time. At least Owubokiri scored against South Africa. His biggest problem was that he and Yekini were too similar. On 2 occasions,in our match against SA,they both went for the same ball simultaneously and thus, missed golden scoring opportunities.

It was not Dimeji, Dimeji is a right-footed player and a talented player. He is not shit. Go back to Canada '87 and Saudi '89. Was he not among our best 5 that got lucrative contract in Spain then. His younger Brother "kokoro" played for our Under-17 as well before moving to Italy. Go back and watch Canada '87 final match against Russians Na woman, car dealership and Old bones that killed Dimeji. 2) I remember that incident and Clemence has to remove Rikky, yeking later score 2 goals.

I still insist that we don't have world class talent in Nigeria any more not even African class talent.
Do you guys remember Taofik Malik in shooting?, Dotun Alatishe, Mojeed Azeez, Edith Agoye, I dare anyone who remembers Tunji Adeyemi - Shooting Stars Striker in 1988-89.
Do you remember the Cyril Levi of Iwuanyawu that got battered by Setif in the Sekou Toure cup of 1988?,
The BCC Lions squad of late 80's under Amodu Moses Kpakor, Amir Angwe, John Zaki, John Agum, Edema Fuludu, and others those boys were hot then they dominated Nigeria and Africa,
The stationary Stores of Peter Obitor, Demola Johnson, Do you guys remember the FA cup finals between stores and Rangers in 1991 or so?
Abiola Babes vs Leventis? Toyin Ayinla and Raymond King's Saga
Naija footie was hot then. Do you remember the Udoji United team that took naija league by storm in 1992?
Dimeji was hot in Canada 87 With Tony Emodofu, Taiwo Enegwa, Philip Osondu, Lemmy Issah, Peter Ogaba. That game against Russia I cried my eyes out That was the last time I wept for Nigeria footie
@Akolawole, Kokoro-Muyiwa lawal was in the Under-17 team that they forgot their passport in lagos when they were to play Benin Republic They went on to win the Meridien cup?
Do you know Femo Scorpions of Eruwa in the 80's and Young Stars FC of Ibadan? Those guys churn out talented players anyhow but a pity most of them never cut it with the National Teams . I hear that Ibadan fans jazz the players so that they wont suceed outside. can you remember any player from Ibadan who suceeded Big in Naija Maybe Mutiu ( Do you know Nafiu Mutiu's brother?)

There was mix emotion when i read your post. I was happy as well as cry for our country. Dayo, you must be as old as Metuselah 1) Taofeeq Malik was theplayer i was ealier reffering to. From one yeye team in Lagos to "Sutin" stars, African champions league, to National team within 1 year despite being a local player. # Give Mojeed 1 million penalties, he will score all. Ibadan fans killed Dotun, i remember chains coming out of his leg. That was what finished an illustrious career. Ask Yekini when he went to Abeokuta and Mutiu when he went to Berger. 2) Yes, Amodu was the best even in FA cup. 3) I think that FA cup final was 1990. I remember a well known Pastor imported by Stores from Ibadan by Store's Mr Anonymous. 4) You remember that Dimeji goal-bound movement that Refereee just stop for no reason. I heared that Referee was killed few days after the match. You forgot another Ibadan boy, Christopher Nwosu. And the youngest player of the tournament in Peter Ogaba. 5) They forgot their Passoprt in Ibadan and Benin won on technicalities. I remember Muyiwa. He is indeed Under-17 in age. I remember how Olubadan stadium referees used to protect him. 6) Not only do i know Femo scorpion but i knew Chief as well. Eruwa is my 4th home as my senior wife is from there. I remember Chief ogundoyin for many reasons. As an anti-Awolowo. I remember how Alahaji Mufu Lanihun invited Chief to come and celebrate with him because he bought a V-boot. Within few days, chief bought 12 V-boots for Eruwa chiefs and ask all of them to follow him to Isale-Osi residence of Chief Lanihun. Money pass Money . How Chief Lure Peter Rufai to second division team in Eruwa.

@ dayo and Akola naija footie was interesting back then. I remember 1) I think in 1985 or 1986 when Leventis united against all odds defeated star studded NNB in the semi finals of the FA cup by 1-0 and also beat Star studded Abiola babes 1-0 in the finals. MKO Abiola was the Abramovich of those days. , able to buy all the stars available.Yisa Sofoluwe,John Zakari,Toyin ayinla, Raymond King etc, Leventis had Edward ansah,Leotis Boateng,Matthew Onyeama,Bunmi Adigun,James Etokebe,Andrew Uwe etc. 2.) The allegation that Shooting Stars and Leventis(both based in Ibadan)always fix their league matches. It always ended in a draw(1-1 or 0-0).Heard this was a gentleman agreement between the two teams, so that Leventis would continue to enjoy the support of ibadan soccer fans 3.) Wakilu Oyenuga(stationery stores ace striker) who scores 95% of his goals using his head. 4) The all conquering NNB team, I think in 1983 that had Henry Nwosu,Samson Ozogula(zion train),Lawrence Orairo,Sunday Eboigbe,Stephen Keshi, etc. 5.)The 1984 Caf cup final, in which 3sc lost to Zamalek.I cried my eyes out that day.Why the hell was that match moved to National Stadium? Why was it played in the afternoon? That was the first time that I hated negative football.Zamalek parked the bus in front of goal,(they won the 1st leg 2-0) played 11 men behind the ball and their solitary chance to score came when Ogbein Fawole headed an own goal past Raymond King. 6.)The famous 10-10 incident at the 1988 CAF cup where Bright Omokaro injured the Algerian striker on purpose, so that nigeria and algeria finished the semi-final game with 10 men, after a nigerian player had been sent off(i think it was demola adesina). 7.)The Super Eagles team to the 1990 Nations cup which started the competition losing 1-5 to Algeria and ended up playing in the finals and losing to Algeria 1-0. 8.)Nigerian players nicknames reputed to have been given to them by the late famous radio soccer commentator,Ernest Okonkwo(God bless his soul).Etim 'maradona' Esin, Segun 'Mathematical Odegbami,'Chairman ' Christian Chukwu,Samson 'Zion train' Ozogula,Uwem 'Hurricane'Ekarika,Stephen 'Big boss' Keshi,Alloy 'Blockburster'Atuegbu etc, Wow, those were naija glory days back then, more to come

@Ow11 Elaho is here in Nigeria. I watched him play a testimonial match with Abedi, Big Seg on AIT recently. You need to see his stomach. He is the revelation of our team in Algiers. Soon after got contract Brondby but left Europe too soon. @HNIC I remember Balubalu-tafin in 1984, Baba Eleran and many gigs on TSOS TV (as it was called then). NFA, for political reason(s) moved the match to Lagos. Liberty stadium was better. Anybody remember Sutin stars versus Tonnere Kala of Cameroun featuring Theophilous Abega at liberty? maybe i believe juju that day. Leventis United and Sutin no dey fix but on a good day Leventis go blow Sutin away even if the match was played in Chief lekan Salami's house .
