hmm. . .
i was just considering starting a thread on this. . .
i'm an electrical engineer. i use autocad.i'm currently using autocad 2009. I'm a cad freak, i'm constantly looking for tools that can enhance my productivity. i've learnt how to hack the registry to auto load applications, how to rebuild legacy lisp applications - over the weekend i got dsx tools 2002 to run on autocad 2009 - this week i discovered scripts, and i configured a script to automaticvally reset soem autocad variables whenenever i open a drawing.
i've done so much tweaking to my autocad interface, i've configured some lisp and arx files that i autoload into the main cui file -
there are all sorts of sites out there where you can download free lsp, arx, vlx and block files ; textupport.net, jtb wotld, jeferry sanders, cadalyst, dotsoft, cae link, xanadu.cz., autodesk labs, and of course, there are all sorts of commercial apps that can be pirated
one thing i've been trying to figure out is if i can recompiile legacy arx file(2004, 2002) to 2007 format, so i can recover legacy arx applications. i know visual studio 2005 is used to compile arx file, but i'm not sure if it can recompile an arx without the source code- not that i have any programming skills, but i do know how to tweal lisp files.
i haven't really moved into 3d autocad, probably because i use google sketchup - in much the same way, you can download all sorts of free ruby scripts that can boost your productivity. i ran a funny hack of goole yesterday - a plugin was preventing another plugin( a rendering plugin - povray) from loading i copied my sketchup folder renamed it , deleted the conflicting plugin, and ran sketchup.i wasn't sure it would work- but it did . so now i have two shortcuts to sketchup; one labelled 'basic', and the other labelled 'rendering'
you can also find auto cad and sketchup video tutorials on you tube.
