That's a great idea.  You need reporters, writers, and probably a dedicated printing facility.  You're more likely to sell to a general audience by focusing on entertainment, or business if your district is a commercial one.  Good luck!

Community newspapers are better than national dailes because their adverts are better targetted. You can advertise to just the people in your town with a community newspaper, instead of wasting money on national ads.

I wish someone else would attempt to make a helpful contribution.  jedkaz, how far with your project?

hi, i also had a similar idea but the key question is that besides the adverts what else can you provide that would guarantee that your audience would be interested in paying money for it next time.

Is it community news and lets hope you don't live in a sleepy community.
Sports articles/ sports news.
Fixtures
Fashion and places to get useful stuff in the neighbourhood.(this might be in form of an infomercial).

The important thing is to remember that you are selling a product (a newspaper is also a product) and you do not sell what people need but what people want. There is clearly a need for community newspapers in nigeria but not everybody wants one. You have to make them want to buy it.

Another question? how would you handle your printing? have you determined the costs and the likely size of the paper?
Just be thorough and develop the idea completely.
lets hope i helped you a little bit.

well, why not make the community Newspaper free? It is a challenge but this means you can grow your audience  step at a time.

The challenges are content, Printing, since it is a periodical how often shall this be produce, target audience.

Income sources, Advertorials - Business available in the community, and products that are counsumed in the neighbourhood etc

Spin offs - Data gathering etc

I'm interested in partnering you on this because I have had the idea for a while but I have not been able to free up time to do it.

Cheers.

Many people love tabloids, you know: Daily Sun is very popular. And rumors are easier to gather than news! Cheesy

You know, i would start out with a targeted newsletter passed around first.   You can do it inhouse at that stage with your graphic design software and Adobe Indesign.  Try to make it relevant to a large body of constituants and research who responds to what as you narrow down the audience.  Then you will be in a better position to market adverts and get sponsers.  Also, if you notice that you have multiple interest groups that you can't serve with one newsletter, start two!!!  Also, don't for get about the online component, especially for you marketing and adverts.  You can go crazy!!! As with any venture, make sure your risks are logical and surmountable, so do your due diligence before hand!  Email me a copy!   Grin Shocked Grin  (^_^)
