NinetoFive this "You guys in NIgerian don't get it" & "you don't know a damn thing about white people" stuff ain't going to work. Tone & attitude mean I alot. If you want to critique try & be constructive don't be superior. Also people come on this forum to learn if they don't know, why don't you tell them? No one on here claimed to be an expert. My point is that no one knows all about anyone, we're all just trying our best. Half the people on this thread are not in Nigeria. Nairaland is populated by non-Nigerians & non-Africans alike. To summarize, I don't disagree w/ your viewpoint, only your tone.

By the way; this is for those who don't know!! There's no such thing as a Latin, Latino or Hispanic race, that's a cultural term. It refers to people of all races whom share a cultural commonality in regards to their heavily Spanish influenced environment. Calling folks Hispanic is comparable to calling Nigerians, Ghanaians, Americans, Irish, Indians, Kenyans, or Australians, a bunch of Anglos, because they're English influenced and speaking nations. This Hispanic term didn't exist until the large wave of immigrants began poring into the nation with their inferiority complexes about their racial makeups. You had clear as day blacks attempting to claim themselves as Tiano Indians, who've been nearly wiped off the face of the Earth for past 500 years. You had clear as day Mestizos trying to say that they were full blooded Spanish Europeans, and indisputable Mulattos claiming to be fully white as well. Here in the US, that crap wasn't going to fly, and the vast majority of these South of the border newcomers where very obstinate about accepting their rightful titles as they're observed here in the US, so as a compromise, the government created a unifying title for them, and this was Hispanic or Latino. Latino was added do to the fact of that not all of the new non-English speaking new comers from south of the border were from Spanish speaking nations; some were from Portuguese and French speaking nations, so they added Latino, to represent all those who come from the Latin-European (French, Spanish, Portuguese) influenced nations. This was never needed to be done for the English and Dutch influenced nations down there, because they like the Americans were influenced under and the Anglo-Germanic system of European blood purity in representation. Meaning that only a pure blooded white can be seen as being a legitimate white, while do to the strength of the black genes any sizable of it within any person would make them just as Negro as the next. Latin law went opposite of this, to a great extent.

seriously though, is Ben Murray Bruce biracial? I've had people swear his dad is white, while others insist he is just light-skinned. Both groups say they know his family.

Well actually the word mulato was born in Mexico, when we were colonized by Spain. when spanish people started mixing with black, and mexican aboriginals, there was a need to "classiffy the mix", spanish+black= mulato, spanish+aboriginal=mestizo, black+aboriginals=zambo.
well I most say that cause i am mix (spanish+nigerian) but i was raised up in mexico.

I've been asking Drusilla the question for months and she comes back with, "That's what the white people say so we accept it". . .

Kemu-Lalu,
Actually the word Mulatto came from Spanish Interaction in Africa, long before the new world was "discovered".
Just a techical correction.

Justgood, why not legally white? Excellent question. (Donzman has been asking no such thing on these boards.) Ask yourself why 1.5 million WHITE parents would not lobby for their children to be called by their race-- white? When you understand the answer, you may be like a lot of us -- sick to your stomach over a country where the racism is so deep, even white parents -- would never respect their own children as white, but they would and have respected them as Black for centuries I think the fact that those white women did not ask for their children to be called "White", is a perfectly beautiful example of how thick and deep the racism in America is.

JustGood, do the white mothers ever agree that white people are naturally racist? NO This is the reason that "I had 5 children by a Black Person" is a non-sequitor as an answer to if the person is "racist against blacks".

Nigeria has an extensive history with "mulattos" or more PC mixed race people.
During the fun and wonderful time of colonalization, white people not used guns and "law" to the black people. They also used their erect penises.
Because of this, Nigeria has a decent amount of mixed people.

Hi, I don't know if my mom has some white blood but she is unusually fair skinned for a Yoruba; my skin is olive-tan or "yellow" and my pops doesn't want me to marry white because he "knows" that my children might come out looking white.
I have freckles, light-brown eyes, and can blush pink if I'm embarrassed. Mostly every one on my mom's side has "good" curly hair and fair skin. So do me and my bro(except our hair is more frizzy and kinky, LOL, ).

I find it very funny that so many people especially blacks in todays society, still after all our history though not even well known by alot of us blacks, shows so much rejection, oppression and subjection to being third class citezens in the world.
No, matter what anyone of you believe, we are living in a white-mans world. Period, Point blank, Face It!!
For those of you who know anything about using the internet, i guess you most because you have registered to post blogs on this site, you should know that any information you need can usually be found on-line. i.e ( Are Beyonce or Tyra Banks mixed raced?)
Well, check their Biography on their website, or WIKIPEDIA!!!! Her Mother is not Black, does she even look black to any of you clowns who suggest otherwise, her mother is of a long line of European French (White) migrants who were looking for a better life in the New World (America). Watered down with Native American Indian and God knows what else.
Beyonce is not Black, she has more Black claim than any other race, but not the less she is not FULLY Black.
Truth is can anyone really say the know their ancestry. I think not. But who is to deny someone of their heritage, whether it is 5% or 50%?
U Blacks all need to get a life and stop being over obsessed with colour and shades and race, beauty comes in all shades. Take a look at the Black Vogue Edition on-line. Amazing 100% Real Black sista's.
There are also hundreds of if not thousands of Mixed-Raced Nigerians, alot in the lime-light and alot of them not!! Most reside outside Nigeria, i don't blame them!! And if you look at the statistics Nigeria has on of the biggest immigrants in America, UK, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, China, Dubai, South Africa, ALL OVER THE ENTIRE WORLD!!
WE PROBABLY HAVE THE LARGEST MIXED RACED SOCIETY IN AFRICA, ITS JUST THAT THEY ARE NOT IDENTIFIED AS NIGERIAN BECAUSE THEY EITHER HAVE NEVER LIVED IN NIGERIA, OR THEIR PARENTS HAVE NOT PASSED ON THE HERITAGE, FOR WHATEVER REASON!!
TYPE MIXED RACED NIGERIANS ON WIKIPEDIA!!
