Iyabo Obasanjo: Senate Has Withdrawn Support -Aliero
From Saka Ibrahim in Birnin Kebbi                                                , 05.05.2008

Former Governor of Kebbi State , Senator Adamu Aliero, said at the weekend, that the Senate has withdrawn its support for Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, over the N300million health ministry scandal,   to allow the rule of law  take its course.
Aliero, after a meeting of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders in Birnin Kebbi, told reporters  that the Senate was not  taking sides. He said when she first briefed the Senate, it was convinced that she had no case, adding that the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) later came up with additional information, which proved contrary. Aliero said since then, the Senate  handed-off the case, leaving the EFCC to carry out its assignment. He said, "the Senate is not out to protect Obasanjo-Bello, the fact is that when she initially briefed us, we thought she had no case, but later the EFCC came up with additional information on the case. So, based on that, we said we have withdrawn our support to allow justice and the rule of law to prevail.”
Aliero also commended the judiciary for confirming  Saidu Dakingari as the governor of the state, alleging that the lower tribunal committed a blunder by annulling the election, based on his PDP membership card.
He said it was unfortunate that the state election petition tribunal agreed that   PDP scored the highest votes during the last governorship election in the state, adding that the election was free and fair.
