EURO 2008 QUALIFIERS TONIGHT

In one of this evening's most crucial games, Claude Makelele (pictured) and Florent Malouda will be representing France, who are currently top of Group B with 18 points, against Scotland in Paris.

Scotland, who are only one point behind France, beat them 1-0 when they played last October and will be riding the momentum from their impressive 3-1 against Lithuania on Saturday. France, who will be without frontman Thierry Henry, managed a draw to Italy in Milan.

Chelsea and France midfielder, Makelele, is hoping the home fans will play a big role in tonight's game.
'We need our supporters behind us,' Makelele says. 'It would be good to be able to count on them as an extra man, because this is a key game we have to win to qualify.'
'They are a team that closes you down all the time, runs for the whole 90 minutes and does not let you develop your game.'
'We will need to be even more patient than against Italy. And we'll have to take more risks offensively without comprising our solidarity at the back.'

Italy are only two points behind France but will play Ukraine tonight in Kiev and will be eager for the win which will take them second if France lose to Scotland again.
Andriy Shevchenko will be hoping to liven up Scotland's chances of qualification by scoring against Italy.
Ukraine are currently fourth in Group B, six points behind France, but with a game in hand over the group leaders as well as Scotland and Italy.

Czech Republic goalkeeper, Petr Cech, is hoping for a clean sheet tonight against the Republic of Ireland in Prague.
The Czech Republic are currently second in the table, five points behind Germany but if Ireland win tonight it will put them level with Cech's national side.
The Czechs will be without their talisman Jan Koller who received his second yellow card of their qualifying campaign during their 3-0 win against San Marino on Saturday, leaving him suspended for tonight's game.

This will be a loss their keeper acknowledges. 'We do not have a second Koller,' said Cech.
Chelsea and England Captain John Terry will be hoping to continue on from the 3-0 win against Israel on Saturday by beating Russia at Wembley.
Terry will be commanding team-mates Joe Cole, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Ashley Cole but will still be missing Frank Lampard due to his thigh injury.

England, who currently second in Group E, are one point behind Russia and need this win to put them into a qualifying position.
'Russia are a very, very good side and it is going to be a much tougher game than the one against Israel,' said Terry.
'When the pressure is really on we do rise to it. Right from the start against Israel we set the tempo in the first five or ten minutes and got right in their faces.'

If selected, Paulo Ferreira faces a tough challenge when Portugal play Serbia tonight in Lisbon.
Portugal are currently third in Group A, four points behind Poland who will play second place Finland. Portugal are two points behind the Finns but have a game in hand over both Poland and Finland.

MOURINHO TREATS EVERY GAME THE SAME

The players arrive back from international duty and resume training at Cobham this afternoon in preparation for the Blackburn game. José Mourinho thinks that their mentality for any match should be the same as it was last season.
Chelsea beat Blackburn 3-0 when we last played at Stamford Bridge in January. Chelsea were defending our championship title then but Mourinho believes, whether your title holders or hopefuls, there is no change in the approach to a game.
'I cannot see the difference between defending a title and trying to win a title back. When you win the title, in the next season you want to win every game to be champions again and retain the title,'
said Mourinho.
'When we lose the title we want to win every game to bring the title back to Chelsea, I don't see the difference,' he added.
'For us the aim of every competition and every game is to win but of course we cannot win every game, of course we will draw, of course we will lose, but the approach to every game is no different.'
Whether defending the title or trying to win it back, Mourinho considers the Barclays Premier League the ultimate domestic challenge.
'I think winning the Premier League is always a big achievement, I think it is one of the best leagues in the world. Forgive me Spanish and Italians but for me it is the best.
'I feel in this moment the Premier League is the best league in the world, improving year after year.
'It is a big achievement to win, like I think it's a big achievement for the teams at the bottom to survive and not be relegated. For people to achieve objectives in the Premier League, it is very difficult.'

Grant no even get license!  Grin

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/chelsea/article2508204.ece

Avram Grant’s long-term future as Chelsea coach is in jeopardy because of his lack of qualifications, The Times can reveal. It is understood that José Mourinho’s successor does not possess the Uefa Pro Licence and under Premier League rules he may be unable to continue in 12 weeks’ time.

Under Uefa and Premier League rules, a Uefa Pro Licence is required by anyone wishing to manage in the top flight on a permanent basis, which is taken to mean more than 12 weeks.
