There are no worse terrorist than the nigerian government, They have terrorized the state to almost a point of no return, make them carry go joh make we rest.

My sentiment exactly.  Perhaps the demon will cast out the demons in itself for a change.

@topic

What the hell are they waiting for.  They have my full "throttle" support! Cool  The country is of no use to itself and others around it anyway. Undecided

He particularly called on the Assistant Inspector-General, Surveillance, Mr. Israel Ajao, to ensure that all parts of the country were well monitored.
I could not stop laughing when I read the statement in bold. The same Police Force that can not monitor and prevent armed robbers is the one being called upon to monitor and prevent Al Quaeda from doing what they know to do best - steal, kill and destroy?

We can only pray that this report is false, otherwise, each man will just have to pray that they are not where Al Quaeda targets.

The intelligence I was referring to was not the one synonymous with being "smart"; I was
referring to the State Security Services (SSS) - the people in the business of intelligence
gathering. I didn't think it was that difficult to understand.
 - and even if someone is forewarned, you still have to be "intelligent" to foil a plot. The
United States, with all their economic power and military might, still couldn't stall
the events of 9/11, so did the british authorities with the london bombings.

Abeg, help me ask her them ooo

The intelligence you are talking about requires some form of smartness. I realize what you mean by the Nigerian intelligence authorities. I will help you understand my take on the supposed Nigerian intelligence authorities not being intelligent

This was your initial post:

Quote
Putting Nigerian authorities and intelligence in the same sentence is somewhat of an anomaly. When did Nigerian authorities realize intelligence was necessary and why have they not yet put it into practice.

You were asking why Nigeria has not yet put its intelligence apparatus into practice, I then told you they have foiled an
al-qaeda plot and gave you this link to substantiate my claim.

Isn't this pretty straight forward  ?

The US. and britain were aware of al-qaeda and their intents, but never foiled 9/11 and the london bombings, right ?

If you want to dismiss anything Nigerian or what it stands for, fine; just do so constructively.

Next time read your own source, this is what I got.

there is no evidence of al-Qaeda in Nigeria.

This is too funny, apparently your friends the Nigerian "intelligence" is chasing their own tail. Before you try to understand me work hard in deciphering your own link.

So are you saying they should wait till they have concrete evidence before they take precautionary
measures ?

In other words, police people, for instance, should not patrol the streets until there is concrete evidence
that a crime is going to be committed ?

so what is the Police chief trying to say?, how can his men prevent this terrorist, if our airport can be secured trust me our land borders can never be, in Seme border you can cross with Okada and nobody stops you it does not matter if you are white or black person, they can easily cross any kind of amunition through Seme Border, some guys are there doing it as legal job to cross illegal goods or arms, in fact they can tell you openly that they are crossers, even if police ask them what do you do for  a living the answer is i'm a crosser.

so let's just be prepared to be bombed.

if America with all its sophistication and gadgets and FBIs,CIAs,NSAs and all the rest(arms and ammunitions ) that could hold any nation at standstill could get hit just like a chicken i wonder what would happen to nigeria where we cannot even catch a common killer(s) of Ige after 6yrs(still counting). may God help and protect us because nigerian police is a big failure and can't defend themselves not to talk of us

i read sometime that theres is something like that in the Northern part of the country, but you know rumors will always occur,

if the information is true, then we re in deep shit, i mean real deep one because they can form an alliance with Nigeria Delta Militant and perform more attack,

you know these alqueda group also need funding to get more amunitions and man power, so they will automatically be involve in abduction and some crazy negotiations in nigeri delta region,

To me, their target is Niger delta region because that is the back bone of the country, security be alert  because when they start, itz going to be bloody, but one thing i know for Sure is that,

GOD LIVES IN NIGERIA,  so no lele people,

everything going to be alright,

NOTE: We also need some more people to be to be enligntened about bomb, I mean bomb squard or something like SWAT so easily cut this stuff,

we need more intelligence officer, I meal read graduate of phycology not all those school sat police,

IG Mike Okiro is either trying to make headlines or has forgotten what he should be doing, for crying out loud where are the killers of Daramola, Williams,Ige, and so many others. he should stop chasing shadows and concentrate on eradicating crime.

@ Subice,
Nice reply. Threading same path as your reply. Let me just put in an addendum to your earlier post.

It is alarming that the helms man at the head of affairs of a sensitive organisation to the national security of the nation THE POLICE can make such utterances creating undue panic and unrest both physically and psychologically amongst the populace. Per adventure it is true that the nefarious notorious Al-Qaeda have such plans it is for the full arm of the National security agencies to combat quietly and not make into a media hit. The consequence of this loud mouthed disclosure is to create awareness and inform Al-Qaeda that Nigeria is vulnerable indirectly inviting them.

It is evident that the Nigeria police and affliate agencies, cannot combat the menace and terror of this highly sophisticated and intelligent millitant body if the threat is true. Daily we record all manners of broad daylight robberies and assasinations. The Police has done nothing to mitigate against future occurences. The USA and England (world powers) still struggle to curtail the excesses of these bad guys. IG Okiro desist from making such erroneous statements and if the ultimate aim is to make money because more funds will be pumped into security then it is too costly to joke with.

As a closing remark just as our fore fathers used to appease the gods, we should appeal to Al-Qaeda to take Nigeria off their list. We are a loving, easy going and peaceful nation.

@ ALL
If this is actually true, NIGERIA is just no match for the Al-Qaeda, i really feel sorry for this country called Nigeria.
But on the contrary i think Mike Okiro wants to use this avenue to make money for himself because he would want the Federal Govt to boost security thereby making money for himself (this whole story sounds FISHY!!!)
whats even the reason why Al-Qaeda wants to bomb nigeria?Huh
Mike Okiro didnot even make mention of the reasons and the avenue for disceminating such an information makes it look QUESTIONABLE?

Okiro is only looking for more money for security issues, very soon the government will vote billions of naira to fight terrorism, his message to his colleagues to be on alert is actually a coded message meaning "take cover", as for the Niger Delta guys i don't think they are ready to die in such away that their body will not be readily available for an hero's burial. president Umaru Yardua as proposed a N16 billion bill to the national assembly as supplementary budget for security upgrade against terrorist attack. this is based on the information recieved by the IG Mike Okiro that Al-queda plans to bomb nigeria. President Yardua made this known at the Federal Executive Council Meeting on  wed in Abuja, trust Nigeria money go flow

seriously we should be looking at the threat of terrorism cept this time it will originate internally,  from this-franchised citiziens.

in my days of social/political activism, i googled making bombs with the sole intent of hurling them at the police,  but those days are over, Tai Solarin is dead, Abacha is gone, i am earning some income. life is good. but hey, the MEND people are in a much more worse position i was back in school.

I honestly wonder why they have not thought about bombing the heck out of government gatherings like the senate and the presidency,  $16billion,  good lord. i would kill every politician if i was niger-delta

Hahahahahahaahahahah, this is a very amusing thread. Ige, Funso Williams and others were killed YEARS ago and their killers have not been brought to book yet. An ordinary aeroplane 'dissapeared' a few months ago and it took the authorities ages to realize where it had gone.
Is it Al-Q, which even the western world finds it hard to track that the Nigerian Police wants to trace and track? IDIOTS, when they can't even find cars that have been stolen. Fools!
