It is appalling that we as a nation should be going through the teething problem of power outage, was still considering the astronomical amount (public fund) spent so far on power supply. As far as am concern this probe is nt helping matters as we're worst off than we were before. In my area we ve nt had light for 2 months now for reasons yet to be disclosed. If Obj is found wanting he should face the 'hanger's noose' regardless of his age, he is a shameless man.
Let those egg heads in the house stop 'monkeying' around & focus on how to proffer solution to the power problem. It is high time we chase all these ritualists/ secret cult men away from goverment.
Let's borrow a leaf from Ghaninians who celebrated their 15th yr of non power outage. I pray the earth should open & swallow all those leaders, officers etc who doesn't want Nigeria to overcome this power supply problem.

Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. Obasanjo made one big mistake during his tenure or may be, I should say he has a problem as a leader - HE CAN'T COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY especially with the public. Not enough or even no information was given about the power projects and other projects in his tenure. I think this is one of many reasons why many people would not want to listen to or read anything from him.
Talking about the power project, I think the public has been misinformed about the projects by either the current president or the senate. I don't understand why the current administration will stop the funding of the project of that value to the masses and the economy and, come out a year after only to raise alarm that the past administration has done practically nothing in the last 8 years on the power project. I want us to know that a year of work would have done a lot in getting closer to this goal of providing power.
I am not saying OBJ is a perfect man either on the power projects (or any other project) but, stopping the funds for that projects has and will always have adverse effects on the project. If the probe is necessary why stopping the projects?
I do not know why people bring family matters into issues like this, if OBJ slept with his daughter I do not think that has anything with the power failure in Nigeria.

@oruwe, naijaking/chidichris,
It is obvious that there is something wrong in the way you reason.
Of course, anytime you fail to make any point you round around making crazy and stupid accusations and allegations.
Who wants the committee scrapped? Who is defending OBJ? This is not about a person, it is about a problem that is far bigger than OBJ but again most of you cannot see anything other that OBJ as a person, someone that may drop dead for all I care tomorrow.
This nation is in a mess not because things can't get better but because we have idiots like you that cannot see beyond your noses.
Projects that were billed to be completed by 2009 (only God knows if that date is still feasible due to the delay) are being sensationalized by a House Committee and the media to the detriment of Nigerians and all pigs like you can come up with is this?
Well, I know for sure that a fool will always remain a fool.
So, it is OBJ's job to scrutinize feasibility studies for power projects?
This is the same way sky blue was running around making childish comments like OBJ was personally signing the cheques for these contracts, so what ignorance, stupidity and senselessness is doing to people on a public discussion forum.
May God help Nigeria.

Your mates are in Senate and House of Reps in Abuja contributing their quotas to the development of their father land, you are defending thieves. Anyway, you have to feed yourself and family. Afam,
May be you are not grounded in matters that are related to management responsibilities.
Havent you heard of banks' MDs removed because of bad debts? in some cases, he approved loans based on recommendations from risk management department. Yet he got the hammer!
The other day the minister for energy stated that the whole NIPP project was just "a white elephant project'. Even if the projects would be finished in 2009, it would do little or nothing to the power problem. She said the project was capital intensive yet little or no value would be added in the long run.
From all indications, Yaradua doesn't want to spend more on such projects that add little value. he would be called to questions later for what he didnt initiate. if Yaradua spent billions on the projects and nothing was achieved, the same people would crucify him. "why did you spend more on such?' bla bla bla.
At the moment, Yaradua has told us what his govt is set to achieve in the next 18 months on power. Let's see how it plays out.

@Oruwe,
On the contrary I asked you to advice your mother and father to go and work there, were they successful in the interview or are they as dumb as you are?
@fyneguy,
Someone stated the NIPP project is a white elephant project, based on what? Those plants that are gas fired plants I believe have specific quantity of electricity to generate, if whatever they generate are fed into the national grid then power will improve.
Unfortunately, politics, name calling, ignorance have all contributed to a lot of people reducing the whole thing to one man and that is where I differ.
You want us to give Yar'adua 18 months to solve the power problem? No one, quote me anyway will start and finish and power project in 18 months. Maybe he has realized that completion of the about 400 power projects out there will really increase the electricity available and is capitalizing on that.
The House Committee claimed N16B, Yar'adua claimed N10B, OBJ claimed about N6.5B with N1.2B out of the money not yet released. What is the position of the accountant general of the federation who should have the most accurate information since monies are released based on warrants?
Yar'adua fired his economic adviser when he attempted to correct him on the actual amount spent on power.
I live in Nigeria, Agege area to be precise and I go through what ordinary Nigerians go through. However, I have chosen to like or dislike people, organisations or even governments based on facts not rumours and gossips.
I do not want to be used as a tool by the elite to love or hate anyone just because they want me to.
Do have a good day.

Thats not completely true. You can't plan and implement in 18months but you can implement in 18months. OBJ had 8years, so there must have been lot of planning already done and YARA-ILL only needs to implement unless he is also saying OBJ did not even plan anything. There are many tasks that runs con-current.

But he has had 12 months already and has mostly reversed most of what OBJ has done in the past. Why have faith in his new 18 month plan when his emergency plan went to nothing?? How long do we have to continue with these continued need to scrap the plans of the previous administrations and asking people for more time?? Who is to say that the next person who comes in will not do the same thing??

Thats not completely true. You can't plan and implement in 18months but you can implement in 18months.
The idea of shifting goal posts or rephrasing issues to suit oneself before providing answers that have nothing to do with the real issues is becoming old fashioned. I stated that yo cannot start and finish any power project in 18 months, you claimed the statement was not completely true because though you can't plan and implement but you can implement. I guess you need to go refine your english and understand the meaning os starting and finishing on one hand and then try to understand if planning is basically out of any starting and finishing of a project. The core issues on this NIPP stuff have been deliberated upon on this thread and of late in the media by a lot of objective people even though a lot of mischief makers, liars and ignorant fools like naijaking1 continue to embarrass themselves every single time they put something down on discussion forums. Na Najia we dey, won't be surprised when Yar'adua gets all the bashing very soon for wasting valuable time on the power issue.

abdurrazaq, can i start by informing u that anything that has to do with a president or former president/former petrolium minister as well as the chairman BOT of the rulling pdp in nigeria is not and and can never be personal or family matter. what kind of lessons are nigerians going to learn from their able and immoral leader. be informed that a man whose house is on fire does not chase rats. be informed that a man who cannot take care of or handle his family will never lead nigeria to any good destination. Afam, i always know your ability and understanding. i always know u are fake. i v come to terms that you are not who u claim. now tell me how long it takes to plan and implement. could it be why obj was asking for third term? are u aware that the threat of third term agenda is raising its urgly head once again? nigerians are yet to confirm the man in yar adua and some knowledgeable men like you are calling for tenure extension for him when we are yet to say anything about his first tenure. someone somewhere has confirmed him for first, second and then requestion for third term for a man who is yet to win court case. if nothing is wrong with obj, what do u have to say about third term? this project that will finish in 2009, started when? and why then? this power project was the same project obj campeigned with in 1999 and 2003. is it worth saying that yar adua campeigned with power supply and one year is out. we will wait to see him in his seventh year start unnecessary projects that will be completed in the year 2050 and we will be asked to give him time to see off his projects.this same yar adua in question was brought and forced on us in his inordinate ambittion to get a cover up. and we were mearnt to understand that he is an upright man by the same obj. based on that assumption, nigerians still believe everything yar adua is saying till tomorrow. Afam(wole soyinka abi Gani), people must learn to have plans for nigeria and nigerians before they start thinking about been nigerian president and not to waste seven years in office confused and stealing our money only to start foolish projects five months to go. if the power projects and contracts will be completed in 2009, when will the roads contracts, security contracts and everyother contracts issued during the 8 years of madness be completed? i think an answer is important here. tell me who your friends are and i will tell u who u are. who are obj's friends. please tell me what u think about such names as, Adedibu, bode george, tony annenih, chris and andy uba. these were the most popular names during the 8 years of political madness. my dearest afam, tell us in your wiseness, the result of the war against corruption in nigeria within the past 8 years. i guess corruption is on the increase? please tell me the moral justification of a president coming to imo state to tell the masses that it was either charles ugwu for governor or no other person from pdp not interested in the choice of the people. afagi, what happened to the ptdf matter that was gazzeted with hours just to frustrate the presidential ambition of atiku? what about the case of mony laundary involving andy uba and the presidential jet. gentle man afam, even with my position and stance, i can play your role better than u are doing because u lack facts. u are simply a clueless paid labourer. u are always saying give him time or didn't we give enough time to your obj to prove his worth. now it is give him time to yar adua, if i may ask, are there any people more petient than nigerians? we are all saying that at 48 years, with what we have in mineral and human resources, we deserve electricity, good roads, security and some other good things of life. people are not born to be proud with suffering. if u do not need good things of life, we need them and whosoever that is giving us that is doing it in the sense that it is our rights not previlege.

You're a sad story. History is full of unfortunate characters like yourself who see no good in the greater benefit of the society compared to their own narrow personal interest.
So, we had many African Americans who actually enjoyed slavery, many south African blacks who prefered apartheid, many Nigerians who would rather serve the British till thy kingdom come, and others who would sacrifice their lives for OBJ's 3rd term.
Now we have goons and paid sycophants like you going around and making the point that it's ok to have no power in Nigeria.

@Akede-Oba,
Thanks for your post.
The urge to ignore these idiots is high but the prize we will end up paying if they are allowed to freely and stupidly misinform, lie and manufacture nonsense from time to time will be higher.
It has become fashionable these days to become a defender of the masses simply by abusing OBJ, that is all that is required for you to be seen as a progressive Nigerian.
Ask these people to coherently table their issues and you begin to see the abysmally low level of reasoning that accompanies any nonsense they come up with. Try to correct them with facts and the next thing is that you are branded a paid agent.
I am an independent minded fellow who will get angry or happy based on facts on ground not because some bunch of touts and fraudsters online want me to.

You can change the subject to our wives, mothers, kids, fathers, uncles, etc as much as you want, because you don't have the truth and the facts on your side. Any Nigerian that complaints about lack of power and the ironic sum of money spent during your master's (OBJ) regime is marked and targeted for verbal assault by you and your cronies. Unfortunately for you, most Nigerians-- Yorubas, Igbos, Hausa, Efiks, Edos, etc experience the same nightmare associated with lack of power in equal terms. Your job as as a master of propagander for the benefits of total darkness would be easier on people who have no baseline comparison. You have an insurmountable uphill task trying to convince Nigerians who have appreciated year-long uninterrupted power supply that darkness is sexy.
