Please Help: Who Do We Believe On These Cars?
« on: May 14, 2008, 07:36 AM »

Good people,

Please help me with your informed contributions.

I and my brother are currently negotiating with a neighbor for some cars. I had wanted a Benz and he had offered us a 2000 model C class and E class respectively, both within 90K miles and from all observations with well functioning and desirable features. They ran well too on the test drive and the guy has no problem with giving us the VIN of the cars and even offered to pay at a nearby cafe should we want to look up the VIN then.

He fixed the last price  of the C-class at 1 Mill and the E class at 1.8 Mill.

A mutual friend of ours is trying to convince us that the cars may have problems just because they are too cheap for those prices.

Please I want to ask, are the cars really cheap at those prices?

And please anyone knows the going price of an Audi A6? My bro wants one. But Please help us with an accurate price estimate here first.

Thanks.

thats  the  problem, if  a car is  too cheap, we  suspect  its  a  lemon,

if  its  too expensive, we  say  the  seller     is  a  cheat,,,,.

well  buying  naija  used  cars, u just  hv  to  be  very  careful, because  most  guys  sell  their  cars  when  im  begin  give  them  trouble, it  cud  be  simple  probs  like  excess fuel consumption, to  vibrations  of  steering  wheel  at  high  speeds, n some  probs  u  just  can't  detect  it  by  a  simple  test  drive, u might  hv  to  drive  the  car  4  days  before  u would  be  able  to  notice  the  fault,

just  pric  e   low, bearing  in  mind  the  worst  case  scenario, ie  changing  the  engine  of  the  car  if  the  problems  start  to  surface,

naija  used  cars  are  best  if  the  original owner  bought  it  brand  new,

like  my  colleague, he  has  a  honda  halla  with  95k  km  on  the  odometer, but  if  u didnt  know  u  would  suspect  foul  play  4  such  an  old  car  to  hv  such  a  low  mileage,

but  the  truth  is  the   have  a large  pool  of  cars  n  so  the  car    was  rarely  used, if  u  cud  get  such  a  deal, i  would  advice  u  to  go  4  it

@edetcnn

FYI: I sold my 1998 C200 elegance (manual transmission) in November 2007 for 900K. Grin

You can also have a look at www.1000carsales.com for a feel of prices.

Why not ask some one you know has a passion for cars to look the cars over and check. I personall have some tips that I can pass on to you for you to know if the car has been in a major accident or not. Sometimes its possible to get a deal on a car (with a monor accident). but you know, generally, my belief is that if its too good to be true then it probably is too good to be true.

Guys,
Thanks for your contributions.
However, the rides we're talking about are not Nigerian used - the neighbor in question is a car dealer (or to put it better, he imports cars).
But i think I'm getting a feel of what I wanted to know.
Please, any contributions yet on the Audi?
Thanks.

ok, cool, if dey are not naija cars then, check d vin, if you're okay with it, then yu my go with a mechanic for final approval since u have said that u test drove it. but i guess since his your neighbour den, i think u should buy d car, yur neighbour would not like to dupe u, or because u pain, because he will be seeing u everyday and thats bad publicity, so just buy them, but haggle d price down a  bit

goodluck Wink

which yr of a6, do u want price, 1988 or 2008 Grin
