I saw "The happening" the other day and i thought it was the worst movie i had ever seen, i know it was awareness movie (which tries to educate people) but it was just terrible. The acting was just absolutely awful that it seemed that the actors were making fun of the script, what a shame. We thought M. Night Shyamalan was going to reedeem himself for his last movie but now it seems that he was just a one hit wonder.

I watched The Breed last week. About a pack of dogs harassing people on an island.
Not too bad, really. Its supposed to be a horror flick but the horror parts werent too freakish. Even funny, in a way.

shyamalan suffers the curse of success: the sixth sense made a yardstick against which all subsequent movies will be judged, and the twist he introduced-the very formula that ensured the movie's replayability and hence, success-somehow turned around and bogged him down. all his movies are expected tohave somthin artistic in them, something to grip us and make us wonder if we really knew what was happening.
unbreakable came close, it had much promise and wiggle room but he bunked it. signs was pretty good precisely because it was claustrophobic (but a bit silly in some places) and then the twist wasnt really a twist. in the end, it was just an expose on the existence of god.
the village actually has a remarkable twist, except i sat 120 minutes watching people in period costume strut around bumping into each other in te most stale drama ever. i expected more tan i got.,
lady in the water is a travesty: he took artistic to a record level of sham, and it stank to high heaven.
which brings us to the happening.
forget the miscasting of the ungifted mark wahlberg, forget the cranky dialog, forget the disjointed edits from one scene to another.
think of the plot. where was it? i think its very telling that one of the last closing remarks in the movie was by a scientifico on television who in response to the question "what the hell just happened" said "we will never know".

hancock is good, love the twist.
there is however one movie i cannot wait to see: the Autumn series of zombie books (autumn, echoes, the city, disintegration etc) by david moody. man them books is creepy!

rofl, i saw it on tv recently. I passed on it. I only saw the scene when the guy jumped in the lake and was swimming towards the skimmer and the two dogs were sitting on the wing of the skimmer, the guy noticed them and they saw him and dove into the water chasing the man. I changed the channel. I'l give it a shot then next time i see it.
@Ex I think why people are not enjoying shyamalan so much as before is because the twists come earlier in the movie than it used to in his older movies. I actually liked lady in the water prolly because it's sort of whimsical Hmmmm yeah i think The Avengers movie is in the works but am not so sure. Am just thinking, with iron man, the hulk and Captain America (that is in the works) there would eventually be an Avengers movie
I can't wait for The Watchmen!!

"who watches the watchmen?" f-ck yeah!
i don't know, iice, but i can't offhand name one shyamalan movie that puts the twist at the beginning, center, or near end of the movie. he just overdid himself and now can't cope with the pressure of working the magic again.
what ive been twisting my mind around is the probable outcome of stark's cameo in hulk. now i know its almost certain there wont be a hulk 2-blame lackluster box office ticket sales on that-so maybe banner will be the baddie in ironman 2. ( don't get me wrong, hulk did rake in as much as or slightly more than ang lee's flick, but nowhere near enough to justify a sequel.)
its funny, but hulk has always struck me as an uncomfortable franchise: he is too big, too green, too dumb, has a monoemotion (rage) and is near indestructible. not much to root for, is there? the comics in my opinion had just been worthwhile incubus to breed other more successful heroes (say wolverine) but beyond that hulk is just another Swamp Thing.
ang lee's disaster just nailed 2008's chance of a sequel.

Ex, I think usually in Shyamalan movies you don't know what to expect and he keeps throwing you surprises throwout that you don't fully get it all till the end. In the Village, as soon as you know that it was the people in the colony masquerading as monsters - there's sort of a let down. In Lady in the water - you pretty much know what's going to happen almost right from the beginning.
Oh lawdyyy another virtual kiss for you I also liken the hulk to the swamp thing. All rage and sooo dumb! I never considered him one of the heroes or even villains. He's just there in the periphery Yeah i did read about the movie just making slightly more than Ang Lee's version.

when the heck are those virtual kisses going to add up to the real thing? dammit ive had all the insulated sex i can get from Second Life .com i feel like Sly Stallone in Demolition Man the real twist in the village happens right at the end: the events were contemporary, not set in the 1800's as we first thought. however the monster thing was a twist too. mention lady in the lake once more and I'm going back straight to hell! did you watch Horton Hears a Who? hillarious, best Dr Seuss ever! do you know of Valkyrie? Tom cruise's latest vehicle coming in february. its thriller based on historical events circa world war 2, july 20th 1944 actually. you know, the plot to kill hitler. he plays the assassin, von stauffenberg. seen the trailer on youtube, been folowwing the story arch since last year. can't wait.

rofl. Second life huh? Some people tried to get me to go there but was not really interested.
Lady in . .
Actually havent seen Horton though i have it
Yeah i know about Valkyrie and it's problems. Twice now the release date has been pushed. There was even a doctored pic of Tom circling around (his looking like Von Stauffenberg)
You heard about Babylon A.D? with Vin Diesel? I was reading some comments and its sooo funny Someone says it's like another Riddick movie (which i somewhat agree with from what i have seen in the trailer) Another says its Babylon A.D with Vin Diesel playing Vin Diesel rofl!
Ok the Max Payne Trailer just got out and though it looks good (trailers can be deceiving!) This one is with Mark Wahlberg hmmm!

haha@vin diesel. he just isnt relevant anymore, one of those "actors" cut from one whole monochromatic cloth
sometimes he even does a poor job playing vin diesel!
yah valkyrie had to be pushed so as not to offend too many german *ahem* sensibilities.
try second life-if you have broadband that is. its great fun sometimes.
you get to loot stores and kill people.

Yeah i will watch Horton.
between Iron man 2 is slated to be released in 2010 And RDJ will of course reprising his role
He has also been cast to play Sherlock in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes. .hmm!

RDJ IS ironman! can you picture anyone nailing that role as perfectly as he did? guy just got his breakaway role and I'm happy for him. its funn, but the Marvel franchise has a habit of reviving comatose careers. maybe eddie murphy needs to get to play one marv hero and save his near-dead career!
seen meet dave? i thought pluto nash was his lowest outing.
it was a prelease copy i got, you know for critics screening with the warning not to copy crawling at the bottom. its coming out today so go see it. ryan phillipe ought to call stan lee too.
guy ritchie is doing sherlock holmes? bugger! expect mockney and tons of "wanker" to figure hugely. hey, didnt they say he was splitting from madonna?

you are mixing up your fantasy creatures. you are a goblin who thinks she is an elf and fancies the swamp thing, but her true love is an orc who wants to gobble her. she ran to the hulk to save her but turns out he is in cahoots with the swamp thing who also wants to gobble her up.
so you ran into my arms and i kept you safe in the place no one can touch you-

haha, steve carell (rhymes with will ferell) the perennial douchebag who can't make me larf-except as the mayor in Horton Hears a Who (you really ought to watch that skit)
get smart was so funny in places but i think he did a better job in the daily show lean years. is it me or does he try too hard (like his rhyming bud will ferrell. can't see him as holmes though)?
now sherlock. hmm, enough "elementary, my dear watson" even though Holmes never said that in any of the books.
speaking of books, my cupboard is bare, as it were, so recommend me someting.

seen prince caspian? i have never been a fan of the narnia series. why? because the fantasy world felt cobbled together from various cliches and tacked on to a thin story. it has nice visuals and rather spectacular vistas but theres this fantasy ingredient missing (properly nailed in willow and the lord of the rings series). its too much wandering around doing precious little.
i hope it dies a natural death.
as i pray same for harry potter
kids books? any dr seuss in there *giggles* or enyd blighton? pray god no harry potter.
