Michel Gondry (directed Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, one of my favourite love stories) invented the bullet time effects used in The Matrix, I think. In an old commercial he did. The Matrix merely gave it a little something more. The Matrix is groundbreaking in other ways, though, and the plot is utterly original. It didn't win four oscars for nothing.

Will have to see The Dark Knight now. My friends aren't shutting up about it. Heath this and Heath that, like they went to school with his brother. Vill vatch zat and review eet.

don't want to keep flogging a really dead horse but all the matrix awards are TECHNICAL awards for the innovative use of BulletTime and sound effects, and that innovation is what is presumed to be 'groundbreaking". theres is absolutely nothing else besides the computer wizardry that is groundbreaking in the matrix.

the dark knight is the most overhyped movie of 2008, and it isnt all that. remove Heath Ledger and you've killed the primary appeal. its post mortem appeal anyway.

death sells, ask biggie, tupac and elvis.

und zat eees ze fact, mein fraulein. auf wiedersehen

The Last Mimzy.

shouldnt have bothered.

The movie may appeal to Buddhists and New Agers though.

Seemed rather pointless most of the time, though the special effects were ok.

Shaggy Dog- shakes head. Torture, imo. Tim Allen is a very good actor, but this wasnt one of his better movies. And why is Kristin always playing the Perfect wife role? Special effects as usual, but CGI isnt always the magic key that makes a movie better.

the movie makes more sense each time I see it.

Finally saw The Dark Knight.
Ledger wasn't menacing at first.
And then, quite suddenly, he was.
Is his performance at par with the miracle he wrought in Brokeback Mountain? Not by a long shot. Should it be nominated for an Oscar? Perhaps. Should he win? No.
But- What a villain.

The Dark Knight is about the choices a hero must make, and shows how those choices can sometimes issue from the darkness in the psyche of every human being, even a hero's. Grim and multi-layered, the movie elevates the superhero genre. It's not Best Picture Material but it's one heck of an action movie. Darkly satisfying.
