actually there are no fakes, one in ten sendoXs hav a problem wit the infrared and as yet no one can tell if its the software or the hardware module, and since sendo as a company is no more we may never know, but trust the geeks. if your infrared is not workin then there isnt much u can do about it ( who needs it anyway), but if the problem is that the infrared is always bright red and the phone heats up, simply open the phone and disconnect the IR module. this poroblem is all over and has to do with the fact that sendo ran into serious financial probs after their case wit microsoft based on the z100 phone sendo built for them. of course the z100 never saw the light of day, just as the sendo X2 may never be launched. motorola has acquired the whole sendo R & D dept because those sendo boys are good at symbian programming. sendo X is a great phone, one of the only fones u can firmware-upgrade yourself (flashing, really). if u are havin any software problem just do a hard reset (off the phone, hold down 5 and keep it pressed while powering on the phone. select yes to clear memory and the phone will reboot-be aware tho that you'll lose all videos, ringtones, user-installed applications etc.) the good thin is hard reset takes care of 97% of software problems.
if u have a sendo x i recommend u go to
www.sendosmartphones.com, download the new 1.198.8.2 flashfile. after savin the driver that comes wit the package and installin the upgrade software in ur pc, switch off ur phone, connect ur usb data cable to the pc then pres and hold * while switching on. u'll see an orange connector plug. fix the usb to the phone, and when the found New Hardware wizard comes up, select to browse from a specific location. click on the sendo.exe driver file u saved earlier and when the driver is installed ( the orange plug becomes green) start the update program and follow the instructions. never switch, disconnect or use the phone when its updating. when its done you'll see a green tick (as in the Nike swoosh). unplug the phone, pull out the battery, re-insert the batt and switch it on. when its done bootin press *#0000# and you'll see the new firmware version. the new firmware comes wit a new theme called Curves and, a message letter counter, and the ability to delete the default NOW pane. (it also comes wit a program called EasyStart that supposedly makes gprs setup less hectic though i can't get it to work.neither can anybody, it seems, but MTN, GLO and Vmobile all offer OTA gprs setup so no probs). now go back to sendosmartphones.com and download tons of themes. however these themes only work wit firmware updates so if u have not flashed ur phone, forget it.
benefits of firmware flashing? here are a few:
1. ur phone becoms faster and less prone to freeze up (it will still freeze but only once in a long while
2. night mode in the camera is gone, good thin because u hav a camera flash
3. u have five Mb of RAM, 1mb more than befor flashing
4. u can delete the default Now pane
5. gprs freezing bug is gone
6. the camera becomes marginally (repeat, marginally) brighter
7. slightly higher framerates for 3gp and mp4 video playback in RealOne
8. smooth camera framing before takin a shot
9. u can install custom themes (windows xp, porsche, linux, apple, woodboard, N70 theme, Modry Sendian, silver Azurro etc)
10. sms letter counter when typing sms so u know how many letters u have left.
all in all ur fones performance improves.
now on to software. you can get free apps, games and videos for your sendoX in the following websites:
1.
www.aivanet.com2.
www.mobuniverse.com3.
www.nokia-world.org4.
www.puremobilezone.com4.
www.mobango.com5.
www.allaboutsymbian.comto find more sites, go to google and type the following:
1. inurl:symbian_freeware
2. filetype:sis
3. allinurl:nokia_apps
4. inurl:blzpda
5. inurl:binpda
6. inurl:evilpda
7. inurl:ximpda
searches 1 to 3 will take you to any site or article that has anything to do with freeware for symbian fones or applications irrespective if the're free-or shareware. searches 4 to 7 will most likely turn up anythin that has to do wit symbian apps hacker teams blizzard, bin, evil and xim, or stuff hacked by them.
now, before u begin installing, i suggest u back up ur phone if possible, and/or install FExplorer and simworks antivirus ( can get them from most of the above sites for free). FExplorer is a program very much like windows explorer, it lets u get in all ur drives-C: (flash), D: (RAM), E:(MMC,where available), and Z:(ROM). in essence, it lets u burrow deep into ur phone to delete, rename, copy and paste files among lots of other things. simworks antivirus is self explanatory, lol, and is necessary because u are downloading from the net.
before you start downloading please note the following:
1. sendo x is built on the series 60 symbian OS 6 platform. this means that apps and sis (symbian filetype) games meant for symbian OS7 (6600,7610, etc) may be imcompatible wit ur phone. note before downloading.
2. java games wit the jar/jad extension designed for java MIDP 2 will not properly install as sendo x is MIDP 1.0
so what is series 60? well it is nokias way of making the symbian OS (which is really based on Psion's EPOC OS) user friendly and easy to navigate by designing a simple interface. series 60 is the most popular symbian series. others are series 80 (communicator), series 90 ( nokia 7710) and UIQ (sonyericcson P800, p900,p910 etc, all pen based symbian devices). symbian series 60 constitutes 7650 ( the first symbian phone), 3650, 6600,7610,6620,6630,6670,6680,N70,N72,N73,N90,siemens sx-1, sendo-x and others i forgot, (hey, I'm writing all this from memory)
the following applications are recommemded by me:
1. smartmovie (player and converter, for playing avi movies). u simply pop in ur fave vcd or dvd, convert it to any lenght u wish and send to ur phone. superb framerates and quality.
2. FExplorer
3. Ogg player (non mmf version) for playing ogg sound files. better than mp3
4. blizzard installer (blzinsapp) for playing ngage games wit the .blz extension on ur sendo x.
5. instantsys, for sending user-installed apps to a friend via bluetooth.
6. mobireader or isilo ebook reader
7. sms guard
8. calcium, a far better calc than the crappy nokia clone
9. highviewer, for viewin interactive docs.
10. agile messenger or I'm+, for loggin in ur msn, yahoo and icq accounts.
11. chat conqueror, irc chat, same as the pc version
12. symella, a gnutella-like file-swapping p2p app
13. taskspy, monitoring processes, threads and tasks, compressing runtime memory and killin errant apps
14. torch, cool for dark places.
15. stacker, for compressing user memory
16. mobiluck, bluetooth chat client.
please note that these are only a tip of the proverbial iceberg and represent only a tiny fraction of what i have in my phone. u may not like some or all of them.
well i hope this helps. as for that guy asking for the firmware I'm sorry but I'm havin probs uploadin because its a hefty 30mb but if u are in kaduna just mail me and i'll send u my number. cheers and really hope this helps.
