Original Hausa Names
« on: May 23, 2008, 12:27 PM »

Let's have them, folks!

I realized that all my favourite Hausa names are either Arabic or influenced by Isl' am. Let's have the secksy Original Hausa names. . . please, don't give us something like Zainab or Yakubu (I love these names o  Cry Cry). Think of Original Nigerian names like Adisa(Yoruba), Ekong(Efik), Azuka (Igbo), Mitaire(Urhobo) Kiss Kiss Kiss, Teri (Ijaw), Osazuwa(Bini), etc  Wink

Kiss :-\hey folks!! truth is that most hausa names r kind of intertwined with da arabic names, i stand to be corrected but gues they r quite inseparable and come to think of it, the hausa language itself is a derivative from the arabic lang.abi na how una feel am? by the way, friday in hausa lang is juma'a and not jumai.peace

Smiley Thanks everyone for your contribution to the thread. This really means a lot to me.

@MC USMAN, those names sound masculine except for larai and Kubura. Do you by any chance know the meaning of the two names (Larai, Kubura) and whether they are female, male or unisex, that is if I am not asking too much.

Names that are unisex are not very common  in Hausa  societies as in what is available in Yorubaland. Names are either masculine or otherwise.

As regrds their meaning i can not authoritavely say they have no meaning. But to be frank i think they are just names just like any other name that has no meaning.

Kande
Turai
Larai
Yelwa
Kubura
Maimuna
Monsura
Yasira
Uwani
Shibu
Jamila
Hindatu
Goggo

Many more are commonly used that are purely indeginous
