There will be economic implications if that ever happens. Even when Igbos obeyed MASSOB's call to stay home in honor Biafra we know Lagos felt it real bad since businesses were paralyzed for days but anyway I don't see the Yorubas acting like that anytime soon. The northerners (Hausa/Fulanis) are known to be very violent and extremely xenophobic so they are the main problem. Igbos as far as I am concerned need to start looking inwards abeg. Onitsha, Aba, Nnewi, Enugu, Igwe Ocha aka PH, Asaba, Awka, etc and even non Igbo towns like Uyo, Calabar, have the potential to be very big if we invest heavily there. Igwe Ocha was better than Lagos sef before the Biafra war but has fallen off the map due to the Ijaw madness and even Ikwerre Igbo madness and abandoned property crap but it can still be revived.

No matter how hard it is for many to believe there is NO 1 NIGERIA. Nigeria is nothing but a mere geographical expression and we all know that. If an IGBO man who has invested a lot and lived in Lagos for a longtime cannot run for a simple election in Lagos without the fear that his candidacy will cause an ethnic bloodshed btwn Yorubas and Igbos in Lagos, even Ibadan and possibly spread to Igwe ocha, Aba, Calabar, and other Eastern towns where there are Yoruba populations then brothers and sisters there is NO 1 NIGERIA. If a Yoruba, Efik, Ijaw, Tiv man who has contributed his time and money in Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, Benue, etc cannot dare run for an election because the so called native community will go on killing spree then there is NO ONE NIGERIA.

So if Igbos have any sense they should focus their energy back home in Asaba, Aba, Enugu, Igwe ocha, not Abuja, Kaduna, Kano or any other city where they are not wanted and have been killed from time to time.

geez. I had totally forgotten about this thread.

Its a wonder all the arrant tribalists don't just exterminate themselves and leave the country for peace loving folks. Undecided

Every other day its tribalism all over the place. All this kind thing tire me, for real.

Good thing I'm not God sha.  Undecided

For those who don't understand: Lagos is like the Switzerland of Nigeria, in a way. its a place where all are welcome. As I said before, Yorubas don't do mass expulsions- its not their nature or their culture, and they are generally very welcoming even when they're prejudiced. I don't know how I can explain it better than this.

If you understand the logic behind places like Switzerland, Dubai, Port Harcourt, New York, etc, you'll understand the logic behind Lagos.  There is even a statue at one of the entrances, of three elders welcoming people into Lagos. The name and location skips my mind at the moment. That kind of thing shows the spirit of Lagosians. They welcome all and sundry. So do other parts of Yorubaland, to lesser extents. There are stories of mass populations of people being offered refuge in various parts of the west, after they were expelled from their original hometowns. Or after being freed from slavers.

Much of modern Lagos was rebuilt by returned ex-slaves from Brazil, who were absorbed into the local population while still keeping their heritage.

If that doesnt show the nature of Lagos, then I don't know what does.

Its such a big shame that people have been occupying the same landmass for thousands of years yet still can't get along. A really big shame. Undecided  Make una continue una tribal mentality for the next couple of thousand years.

So much stupidity all over Africa. Angry

Well, actually, if this was to really take place,  the state would really go into the posession of the Edo people. The land upon which Lagos now sits,  was first established as a territory by the Edo under the athority of the Benin Empire/Kingdom and it was named Eko (camp/resting grounds). It wasn't until later that Yoruba moved south and into the area as murchant traders after the Benin military built the area up into a major sea port trading teritory.  Smiley
