Crowd Simulation

Here's my result after messing around with crowd simulation. I used Lightwave and HD Instance.

guddsid, at the risk of getting slapped with the 'hypocrite' stamp. . . discussing crack and so on is a very 'sensitive' issue for me. . . if you're a beginner, there are so many options available to you. Blender in top on the list and you don't have to worry about 'infringement' issues because it is FREE and pretty much powerful, with a fluid system that could rival 'Da big 5' (Lightwave, XSI, Max, Maya, C4D). There's Maya PLE, Vue PLE and Houdini Apprentice. These apps have the same functionality as the commercial version with a few limitation ranging from unobtrusive watermarks and perhaps a file format limited to that very version. The bottom line is if you master blender, you can easily switch to Max, XSI, Lightwave as the case may be.

Go to the websites and download 'em, if you got issues, I could work out something (time is killing me here) . . . like putting them on a DVD rom and mailing 'em. . . but try downloading 'em first. If you got questions, feel free to ask. . . I'll answer 'em to the best of my knowledge.  Smiley

@guddsid

If you stay in lagos, just take a trip to computer village. You'll get whatever software you want. Because you might have internet speed issues.

The piracy stuff is left to you.

happy learning.

Why not try the open source program Blender - freely available for download at: http://www.blender.org
You can check out some demos on that site or at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WruTNnF6Ztg
Major film producers and 3D artists (independent or not) in USA, Canada and elsewhere use Maya, 3DSMax, Lightwave etc and also Blender!

Other software mentioned in wikipedia for crowd simulation etc.
    * BlenderPeople, free software for crowd simulation usable with the Blender animation suite
    * NetLogo, a free software for multi-agent modeling, simulation, and the like.   http://ccl.northwestern.edu/netlogo/
    * MASSIVE, the software used in The Lord of the Rings films. http://massivesoftware.com/
    * CrowdIT, Crowd tool for 3d studio Max http://www.crowdit.worldofpolygons.com/
    * SpirOps Crowd, Crowd tool and AI middleware used in Splinter Cell - Double Agent game. http://www.spirops.com/
    * Micro-PedSim, microscopic (multi-agents) pedestrian traffic simulation. http://people.revoledu.com/kardi/research/pedestrian/MicroPedSim/download.htm

@grafikdon

That's actually pretty good for trial work, it felt like a first charge in a Zulu war film, well done. The only problem I have with the video in general are the weird clouds, they move too quickly and seem to abruptly change direction at one point. Anyways, you stated that your goal was to make a believable crowd simulation and not realistic clouds and in that you did just fine.

@ hexgear You're right. I acquired an instancing plug in for Lightwave (HD Instance) and decided to give it a shot. Wanted  to know how far I could go with about 400 000 warriors charging across the screen. I was dumbfounded when my workstation didn't crash and the rendering speed pretty just normal (1.5 minutes per frame). I have done a lot more now with better movement and more realistic plains using Vue 6 Xstream.

Well done grafixdon. Reminds me of that Oritz Wiliki music video of the early 90's. Is this just a test or is this going to the final work?

@Raymand, that was a test. . . it's not really part of any project.  I will upload an advanced/polished version later.
