Hello people,
Out of ignorance, some people and even some cafe owners believe that it is the yahoo guys that move cybercafes. With my experience, that is totally untrue.
These guys stay longer in cafes and that, any cafe owner will agree, does not necessarily mean more spending. The long hours they spend in cafes are cheaper. It is called bulk time and bulk times are very cheap.
When they stay all that long in your cafe with cheaper tickets you earn less and thats as simple as that. Regular users walks in, buys regular ticket, do their deal and leave thereby creating space for another user.
In my own experience, due to EFCC raids, many students (99% of my customers are students) feel more relaxed browsing in yahooze free cafe and that means higher patronage and believe me, it is working for me. Some cafe owners around may not agree but I have seen the two sides of it.
That is why I still need to take further step in discouraging yahoo activities at least in my own place. I don't think I need anyone to tell me that I'm foolish to stop scammers in my cafe because I know what works for me.
i don't know of other cafes but stopping them is very good for my business and thats just that.
thats why I am still looking for meaner ways of ending it. I need someone to suggest something workable.
@bigjoe
I feel you real good. As much as i hate this whole thing about Internet Scams being sent from Nigeria, but i really must confess it'll be a long fight to counter all measures these dudes use for their practices. Like they say, "nothing is impossible".
For now, i would only suggest going psychologically against them might help. e.g placing Notes that servers are being monitored and in events of suspected Scamming, perpretators would be handed over to the EFCC and prosecuted.
There is no Software that could detect a Scam mail. Only receivers of such mails that could report such events to the mail Carrier eg Yahoo, Hotmail, etc and the authorities for them to take action. Trillions of mails are being sent daily from different servers and its almost impossible for one or an ISP to control each outgoing mail. The so called Spam Blockers, Detectors, Killers works with information based on frequent occurence from a specific IP address or a soecific E-mail address. The Software has a database with millions of suspected Spam mailers, IP addresses and possibly where they operate from. Logically, you can tell how the rest works.
For now, Nigeria has no Bureau controlling its Servers so anyone could send anything from anywhere or into anywhere without being detected or controlled. Well, for me, i think the ISP should responsible for controlling its servers and not accusing their customers for what they aren't responsible for.
