Female Rugger, Nigerians And Rugby
« on: June 01, 2008, 11:52 PM »

I am in love with Football (not soccer) but then I started watching Rugby and I am far more interested in it now. I know a female I'm team and they have been trying to recruit but am not sure if the concussions are worth it.

Well the point of this thread is to ask whether there is anyone Nigerian or not who has ever played rugby?

I played Rugby while doing OTC. Good sport too. A ''man's game'' if ever there was one.

I actually enjoy watching it now more than I enjoy watching football.

what about a girls league?

I think the sport is quiet intense and more entertaining than football. Atleast football players wear helmet.

I played as a left wing in school, touch rugby though.

the day I made the school first team, one of the player broke his nose  Tongue

I like watching the main tournaments, especially when its not muddy like the leagues in England

If you are very fast just opt to play as a winger, that way when a fat bugger is coming you can run into touch  Wink

I want to get into it because apart from loving the game track has gotten boring. Am pretty fast so I will try out that position if I play.

@mukina2 There is a female I'm rugby team which is as intense as the men's league. Blue eyes concussion and all.

Savanaha,I love Soccer but Rugby is on the other level in terns of entertainment. You know in Rugby every minute is entertaining unlike soccer where you can sit for 90 min and no goal is scored, its a good sport where you need to be mentaly and phisically fit it is no siesie sport,I know one guy who broke a hand and still continue playing till the end of a game thats rugby for you.
Do you know that RSA is the current world champion?

@RSA

They are world champions alrite. Supported the Boks all the way to the Trophy.

But jeez, whats with SA teams in the Super 14.

The Bulls were terrible this year, just one year after taking the trophy.
The Crusaders crucified them in Pretoria.

The Sharks were hardly any better, though they made the semifinals.

The Stormers were a pleasant surprise though. Jean De Villiers is a stud Center. Cool Cool

Looking to see how the new Bok regime will cope though. I know there was a lot of hoopla
over over Peter De Villiers appointment. I hope he succeeds.
Plus he has promised some free flowing rugby. I know the likes of Francois Steyn and J .De Villiers will
flourish under such a transformation.

Doyin,I am glad  to hear that you where rooting for  the Boks, yeah we all dissapointed with our  super 14 teams this year ,especially the Bulls(I am a Pretoria boy).We had an oppotunity of having two teams in the semis and we blew it.Crusaders where super this season and deserve the title.

There is a lot talks about Peter De Villiers since he's a first black coach for the Boks, but I think he will do well,we won the under 20 world cup with him in charge,he's a brialliant coach. This weekend we are playing Wales in Bloemfontein, our first match as world champs.I wont go to Bloem but I will watch the game on telly.

Great that there are actually Nigerians interested in Rugby. I wanted to study abroad in Australia this coming semester because apart from liking the country, they have a good Rugby following but I also want to stay here and join the female team.

U played Rugby? Stop lying u onanist!!!!
With your narrow shoulders and tiny legs. . . . .U will be lucky to complete the 1st half.
Rugby is rubbish. . . . .no tactics, no techniques, no skills.
The only thing required is speed and the ability to duck strays(tackles). Cheesy Grin
Oyingbo/Ojuelegba pick-pockets would benefit so much from this if they can be exported to the UK or South Africa.

I thoroughly understand your point of view.

I personally think American Football suits your Profile.

I have no interest in Rugby although I played for my secondary school team because I was big and strong for my age and they selected me.

If you go to any British University, you will find that the Rugby team always engage in pseudo-homosexual activities such as drinking pints while naked etc -  that is why people consider the game slightly homo.

Here too. I know the rugby team both male and female drink like fish here but am all into it for the sport and not the social aspect. It is weird though that they chug so damn much but have good athletic skills.
