The Image Of The Northerners (the Hausa/fulani) In Entertainment Industry
« on: June 06, 2008, 10:32 AM »

It is with dismay and dejection that we Northerners watch how we are been portrayed in Nigerian Home video and by stand-up comedians. We are been portrayed as uneducated idiots that cannot speak good English, and always use the word "shege" in every English sentence. For your information, 'Shege' is a foul and offensive word in Hausa Language that means bastard.

So please help us stop this, it is not that I am not humorous or something, no it is just not funny at all.

That is our plea to all comedians and filmmakers.

We can't expect others to fight our battles. It's sad that there's only a handful (and I exaggerate for effect) northerners in the Nigerian Movie Industry. It's time to show others the stuff we are made ofdon't you think?

For every tribe in Nigeria there is a bad omen associated with them. For instance, the Yoruba tribe are moslty considered as cowards & dirty by Nigeria comendians. The Ibo tribe are seen as money concious, Calabar girls sex machine, Tiv drunkards. We the Northerners by virue of our bcakwardness in education are seen as illiterates.

In my own opinion, this trend is likely to go on for a long time, i feel we just relax and digest the fun as it last.

I don't think we are any more backwards than any other tribe. So please stop spreading that fallacy.
