remedy should be to try and not have d fear of heights, cos there are some areas only flights can take u there, so just be strong, U WONT BELIEVE IT I ENETRED PLANE , 1ST WHEN I WAS 25YRS, ON D DAY I WAS TO ENTER, I SAID , CHEI, SEE ME SEE PLANE, OKAY THAT I WONT ENTER ANY OTHER APART FROM ARIK, SINCE THEY SAID THERE PLANES WHERE NEW, IF I MISS ARIK, VIRGIN WOULD E NEXT. SO ON D DAY I ENTERED , BEEN A NOVICE, I JUST SAT DOWN IN D PLANE, THEY SAID BUCKLE UP, BROS ME I LOOK LEFT, I LOOK RIGHT I NO SEE BUCKLE( mind u , i'm an IT Guru,so i should at least know a thing or two) WELL INSTEAD OF LOOKING SO RUFFLED, I JUST LOOK AT BY NEIGHBOUR WITHOUT HIS KNOWING, AND COPIED A 2 Z OF ALL HE DID, AND I WAS SMILNG TO MYSELF, THAT I HAVE CONQURED, WHEN D PLANE STARTED, I SAID NO SHAKING, BUT BRODA WHEN IT STARTED CLIMIBING, IT WAS LIKE MY BODY SANK INTO MY BODY, I ALMOST WENT NUTS, BUT ONE THING HELD ME TOGEDA, I SAID I WAS A MAN, ONE WAY OR THE OTHER ONE MUST DIE, BUT I WILL BE FRANK WHEN TURBULENCE CAME, I BECAME A SAINT

i also hav air/height phobia, and i beliv road transport is safer even though air transport record fewer crashes, funny abi? its the flights within nigeria i dread most and i do all my best to avoid them though sometimes it is inevitable
i read some statistics that made me more scard, something like if a plane has 1000 crucial components and one component becomes faulty unnoticed, then the probability of a crash is 0.999, after i heard that, i cancelled a visit 2 my friend in abuja, the next time i entered a plane abroad, all i could tink of was that statistic and during that flight, i tot i heard a kinda different noise in the area i was sitting(i still beliv i heard it), i had to car the hostess attentn who was just smilin while i was talkin of a possible serious matter, she suggested i sleep off, i replied God Forbid in this kinda dangerous circumstances, i just gripped my only books and continued praying(i still think thats why that plane did not crash)
now, i rush sleepin pills b4 d flight and make sure i'm goin wit someone or hook up wit someone @d airport(i've almost missed flights though i dont travel a lot) i cant bliv i'm such a scared kitty, i hav a plan on d way to study planes and also to try sky-diving and especially parachute jumping as hobbies and, u know
also, i neva found out whether we are allowed to take parachute on board even though most crashes don't allow time for that(i beliv i can still manoeuvre some time)
don't 4get, repent and be good if u are going to be travellin by air

I'm also scared of flying :'(whenever i'm on board i fall ill instantly. . .i lose my appetite, feel dizzy and throw up constantly. . .i dunno how to overcome this. . . During turbulences i can feel my heart in my mouth. . .funny enough my younger sister is so calm even during turbulences. . I tried asking her for solution. . she told me i was persimistic, if i set my mind off negaive thoughts i'll be alright! I need advice from people too coz dis is the only reason why i'avn't been to nigeria for holiday!

I have no fear of flying, but sometimes your brain makes you imagine things would happen. To overcome the fear, KEEP FLYING.To Prevent the fear from becoming evident, don't fly, use a bus if it is a local journey!!!!

The Emirates planes have on board cameras. One underneath the plane and the other on the nose of the plane. Apparently its supposed to allay the fears of nervous passengers by giving them a sense of understanding of their environment. This achieved the opposite in my case. On Arriving at Gatwick and the plane was taxing to its allocated hanger and just as I was breathing a sigh of relief, I switched this function on for the first time and nearly collapsed in fear when I saw how close the plane was to the airport terminal building. I was thinking to myself will this plane stop or are we going to go through the glass?? I think most of the fear stems from the fact that as passengers, we have no control over the vehicle. When I am driving and in control of my car, I am happy to do 85 miles an hour on the motorway but I don’t feel comfortable when any one else drives me even at 40 miles an hour and am constantly pressing this imaginary brake and telling the driver to slow down. As a plane passenger you are relying on many things…… ground technical staff to tighten and fit parts correctly, the correct amount of fuel is put on the plane, Pilots reading the manual correctly and flicking the correct buttons, the doors have been closed properly, the landing gear will work, etc etc etc and …………, of course one hopes that the computers display the correct information to the flight crew……………, Software testers are probably the most nervous passengers J I read a story a couple of years ago about 1 passenger who died and several others injured in turbulence so I take turbulence very seriously. …………….and nervous passengers MUST NEVER watch Air Crash Investigation on the national Geographic TV channel. God is the only one we can & should rely on

Is this sheer folly or display of retardness?. I didn't know they have started allowing mental patients to use ward computers.

This case is more than mental problem. I guess it's spiritual and he needs serious prayer.

It is simple - most people only get scared when the plane is taking off and feel like their stomach is lifting . . . . . you have to lean forward when the plane is taking off and you wont have any problem.

God is the only one we can & should rely on @chaircover yoyu are spot on!. The fear of flying is caused by the fact that the passenger does not know the how and why an aeroplane flies and also they have no control hence the feeling of helplessness. The best way to overcome the fear of flying is to get to know how and why an aeroplane flies, search the internet and you'll find explanations. Some people may also experience motion sickness whenever they fly, my advice is eat before you fly but do not over eat just do not fly on an empty stomach. Takeoffs and Landings are the most demanding tasks for the pilot and there is a chance that things may go wrong but rest assured that your pilot has been trained to handle the situation - stalling, failed engine, failed landing gear e.t.c (just pray that they remember what they were taught in flight school !). As regards trubulence you will enconter them every now and then as long as you are not flying in bad weather you'll be fine. If your pilot has done his/her pre-flight planning and obtained accurate weather reports he /she should be able to plan a route that avoids severe weather area. I fly light aircraft so I am talking from experience .

flying is one thing i like, i stay up most flight not because i can't sleep but rather i love seeing the view from the sky. for those that don't like flying, one thing that use to work for me before i became a height maniac is to remember that if the Pilot knows he/she can't fly the plane he/she will not pilot it and the only way .to guarantee is life is to land the plane safely. P.S. i just went skydiving that shit was fun. I will open up a thread with pictures.
