Pls can you tell me what to do about my Glo 3g mobile internet issue. I paid 30k to purchase the package (which includes one month's subscription). At the point of purchase i was told it covered the whole of lagos but alas! i av never used it for 24 hours and my money is running. I think NCC should know about this deception that our telecomms operators put up.
I live in oko-oba area of agege.
Thanks.

Hello Yommy01,
I think we are having the same issue with internet connection in nigeria. If you need to use glo, you have to be sure it is working in your area. As for me, I am still regretting the glo3g i bought because I have never enjoyed it for 24 hrs uninteruptedly since i bought it.
I hope glo will try to protect her integrity and ensure better services.
Thanks.

@yommys01

I live around Igando too and I think the best bet for u is to get Starcomms EVDO data card, although the EVDO doesn't function well in Igando area, u'll stiill enjoy the 1x speed.

Which Technology is better WIMAX or EVDO 3G

I have been wondering which of this two technology is better WIMAX or EVDO 3G.
Swift Broadband, IPNX, Direct on pc, and others use WIMAX
Starcomms EVDO, VISAPHONE, Glo 3G, MTN 3G, My Netcom

Hi guys nice discussions
Really I personally think it's the peak performance of these so called ISPs that matter for instance my multi links in Ogun State is fucked you'd probably peak at 15kbps and on regular basis I can assure you'd get 1kbps - 3kbps, When I came to Lagos my bros EVDO starcomms was peaking at 128kbps and averaging 15 - 20 kbps.

Now i'm on a wireless stuff both at the office and at home I don't even pay shit, thanks to my estate and office, we use swift at the office and it's not that fast sometimes it peaks at 50kbps but I'm yet to find it go past that,

The area might be a problem but I never even tried multi links in Lagos wen ppl say they're good I'm always like NO WAY like th say first impressions count, DOPC messed up a cafe I used to work back in school so they're also out I'm suprised no one's mentioned LINKSERVE and KOOCHI or ACCELON i'd like a report on them

The broadband we have in Nigeria like every other thing is the Nigerian version,
Overseas broadband feature like 8mbps - 11mbps in NIja that one na dream

Hi all, just to offer answers to a few recent questions:

Swift Broadband (swiftng.com) is not the same as Swift Talk.

If you have issues with any service provider registered with NCC, you can make complains by email by writing to CONSUAFFAIRS AT ncc DOT gov DOT ng.  They always act on the emails, and in fact NCC will contact you as well as your service provider.  Good luck.

thanks for that piece of info agboifo

I just purchased the starcomms evdo promo for N7000+50hrs free internet, and i tell you, tomorrow will make it a week and i still haven't been connected.
I made several calls to the help service (which is the only good thing i am very sure they have)
they keep saying the same rehearsed words

can i have your phone number please?
give me your ESN number, the one that says hex

I will forward it to the activation department and you will be activated before the end of today

will that be all for now?
thanks for choosing starcomms

the bad part of this is, the card is useless on other networks
I had to get a visafone connection and got connected the next morning

i got to their office to return their aircard but they didn't accept it.
funny enough, a guy who was smilling at me while i was purchasing it ended up with the "this is no joke" look.

Now with visafone, am getting 14 kbyte/sec max for a gold broadband plan instead of the promised 37.5 kbyte/sec . maybe it has to do with my area and daytime subscription. I am planning to get an aircard booster and maybe over the weekend, visit a friends place with it.

will try sending a mail to CONSUAFFAIRS AT ncc DOT gov DOT ng
and see if they really care about consumers.

this is becoming crazy , I just wasted my 10k renewing my starcomm after I dumped multlinks and the starcomm is not even any better and all the broadband every one is talking about on here is not working in my area according to their agent. This situation is real very worrisome. The stupid starcom would not even open my forum soccerfanbase.com and ezinearticles.

ISP Consortium plans nationwide broadband network
25 internet service providers (ISPs) across the country have decided to come together to form an alliance to build a broadband network in all the major cities of Nigeria. The consortium, NAIJAWiFi, called on the government of President Umaru Yar Adua to urgently declare a ‘state of broadband emergency’, claiming that ‘broadband connectivity remains the key to unlock the nations potentials and accelerate economic growth’.

The consortium applauded the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on its broadband initiatives. ‘The declaration of 2007 as the year of broadband, the NCC State Accelerated Broadband Initiative, the WIN project, and its excellent frequency and broadband plan as unveiled at the national broadband workshop, clearly shows the Commission is on the path to history once more. The consortium also appreciates the effort of the Federal government with the launch of NIGCOMSAT 1, which would definitely impact positively on the broadband path,’ said Ndukwe Kalu, CEO of Amsco Telecoms and spokesman for the the NAIJAWiFi consortium, which is made up of ISPs with operations in 30 Nigerian states. ‘We do not discriminate as the consortium is open to the big and small and from any part of the country,’ said Kalu. ‘Our foundational belief is that any city can be Nigeria's Silicon Valley.’

The consortium’s plan is to build a network across 47 cities of Nigeria, covering all state capitals and other key cities, a clear departure from the usual Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja deployments. The project is estimated to swallow over NGN5 billion (USD39.9 million), and has the backing of local financiers. The consortium is also talking to international financial groups. Members of NAIJAWiFi include Amsco Telecoms, Siotel, Linkserve, Acet Technology, Acti Tech, Afrione, Amdifol, AS Technologies, Best Communications, Blue Topaz, Cobranet, CyberGold, Falmur Communications, I-Net Global, NOVA, Juninet, Kidacom, Orbit Infolinks, SITL, Spaceway, Steineng, Swift Talk, WebOnLan, WorldWeb and Zeccon.
