In a few years I expect Glo to become the biggest mobile telecommunications company in the Middle East and Africa Region.

I expect it to have completely overtaken MTN group

Most people don't realise what this really means. The Jobs that will be created, the immense size of this company.

Globacom, ETB splash N700m on NUGA

Globacom and Equatorial Trust Bank (ETB) have committed over N700 million toward the hosting of the 2008 National University Games (NUGA), by the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN).

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, disclosed this last Friday at a press briefing at the Nsukka campus.
He said that chairman of the two companies, Dr Mike Adenuga gave the money for the rebuilding of the Akanu Ibiam Stadium.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the stadium, which is expected to host most of sporting activities of the game slated for this November, has been in a deplorable state.

The stadium is currently undergoing a total overhaul due to the money donated by the companies. According to Nebo, the project, which is at foundation stage, is being handled by Costain Construction Company.

He added that the apart from the gesture by Adenuga, the UNN Private Public Participation (PPP) arrangement had attracted the interest of other financial institutions who were assisting in various areas to develop facilities for the game.

“So far, the commitment of PPP can be put at over N2 billion in the last 18 month,'' he said. They include Renaissance Capital, which is rehabilitating the Olympic size swimming pool at the cost of N300 million, Zenith Bank, handling N250 million worth of project, Intercontinental, Diamond, Union, Access Banks are also undertaking various projects.

“The unprecedented cooperation from private sector is amazing, it has never happened in history of a Nigerian University, and we are happy to be brazing the trail.

Glo opens 41st shop at MM2, cuts turnaround time for customers
Second National Operator, Globacom, last week opened its 41st  Gloworld shop at the departure hall of the Murtala Mohammed Airport’s new domestic terminal, tagged MM2.  The one-stop centre according to Glo, is equipped with latest technology to meet customers’ various needs and will offer  all kinds of Globacom products and services even as customers are free to make enquiries about Glo services while on the move to catch up with their flights.

The company however said it has reduced the turnaround time for customers of the new shop, to keep pace with the demanding nature of customers meeting their flight schedule and at the same time having one service or the other to enjoy from the centre.

Gloworld  is a hi-tech outlet for personalized customer interface with the system to access account profile, monitor calls, offer SIM sales and activation, value-added services including Blackberry, mobile internet and roaming as well as carrying out other communication functions.

Olu of Ikeja, Oba Rafiu Amore, who was the special guest of honour at the occasion, said Glo had become an international brand that is projecting the country’s image abroad, saying the company was an instant success with a lot of potentials.
“Glo is now Nigeria’s economic ambassador that will continue to flourish to greater heights. Glo became an instant success from inception and has sustained its pioneering role ever since,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, the lawmaker representing Ikeja Constituency in the House of Representatives, Honourable Bayo Odulana, said he was not surprised at the achievements of Globacom because of the shrewdness of its chairman, Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr.  “This is one man in our generation who has a midas touch on all that he does. This explains the success story of Glo. His achievements in telecoms and other sectors show that all hope is not lost on our country’s development,” he added.

Speaking to newsmen after the launch, Managing Director, Gloworld, Ms. Sade Boyega, said that customers should expect friendly and world-class services from well-trained staff, at the newly opened shop.

According to her, “the focus is to provide customers who are on the move with relevant information, services and products that will enhance their trips. We appreciate that Globacom customers at the MMA2 are always on the move to catch up with their flights and will entertain no delay. What we have done in this respect is to cut down the turnaround time for MMA2 customers in order to give prompt attention to customers who are on the move to catch up with their flights. We have done this by positioning well trained staff that will offer quicker services to such customers. The services are delivered much faster than the services of a conventional Gloworld outlet across the country.
The turnaround time is the average time a subscriber spends while being attended to at the Gloworld”.

She also revealed that the company was planning to open another Gloworld at the International airport, adding that wherever the people are, Globacom would always be there to attend to the needs of the people.

Adenuga’s business initiatives commended

HONOURABLE Bayo Odulana, representing Ikeja Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives has commended the business ingenuity of Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr, Chairman, Adenuga Group, for his ingenuity in business and economy. He said he was not surprised at the achievements of Glo because of the shrewdness of its chairman, Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr.

“This is one man in our generation who has a Midas touch on all that he does. This explains the success story of Glo. His achievements in telecoms and other sectors show that all hope is not lost on our country’s development,” the legislator said.

He spoke at the opening of the 41st Gloworld shop at the Murtala Mohammed Airport’s new domestic terminal. Located inside the departure hall, the one-stop centre is equipped with latest technology to meet customers’ various needs. Glo World shop is a hi-tech outlet for personalised customer interface with the system to access account profile, monitor calls, offer SIM sales and activation, value-added services including blackberry, mobile internet and roaming as well as and carry out other communication functions.

The special guest of honour on the occasion and Olu of Ikeja, Oba Rafiu Amore, said Glo had become an international brand that is projecting the country’s image abroad. Oba Amore declared that Glo was an instant success with a lot of potentials. “Glo is now Nigeria’s economic ambassador that will continue to flourish to greater heights. Glo became an instant success from inception and has sustained its pioneering role ever since,” the royal father said.

In her welcome address, the Managing Director, Glo World, Miss Shade Boye, said the latest Glo World shop would offer the same excellent quality service that Glo is generally reputed for in Nigeria’s telecoms industry where it is a clear leader.

Glo dealers who attended the occasion expressed delight with Globacom for expanding the frontiers and fortunes of their partnership with the company. They said this had made their loyalty unalloyed, as they pledged more commitment to the vision of Glo which is to become the fastest growing and best network in this part of the world.

With a subscriber base of 18 million in Nigeria currently, Glo, from all indications, remains a network of competitive reference. A fortnight ago, the company began operations in the Republic of Benin and is getting set to launch in Ghana and other West Coast nations.

At present, Glo is building a land bandwidth for corporate Nigeria through the nationwide laying of an optic fibre that will function as an information superhighway for the transmission of voice and data in an unprecedented manner.

Globacom Appointed The Group COO for Glo Mobile

Globacom is building Africa’s first private submarine cable from Nigeria through other African countries to UK and the US.
It is also respected for its innovations, having pioneered the introduction into the Nigerian market of various products and services such as 3G, Blackberry, Mobile Internet, Vehicle Tracking, Multimedia Messaging Service, Voice SMS, Text to Email, Mobile Banking and Per Second Billing.
Globacom also crashed the cost of SIM acquisition from about N30,000 (about $252) to almost zero and was credited by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in a 2004 report for leading the revolution that made telecoms available and accessible to Nigerians in general.

Glo is obviously not in this with a short term grab-and-go strategy. They are in it for the long haul as evident by their consistent and ever growing huge investment in superior infrastructure and systems.

Yes, so more Kudos to Adenuga and his team.

I've been a Nigerian for awhile and I have never heard of 98.5% of these listed towns.
I guess, this is a good development; the unknowns are now finally getting on the map and state of art telecommunication is no longer for the rich and popular superstars.

The names of the towns even sound scary and very unfriedly, but that did not stop Globacom from making things happen in these areas.
A lots of Kudos to GLO without any question.

as glo continues to invest millions of dollars in ghana and rep. of ben day after day, glo hasn't made kobo from this new investment. the future is their main target and i'm sure that nigerians are not paying any attention to glo's current systematical approach towards investing for the future.
in 5 years time, when glo starts clocking millions and millions in returns, i'm sure that nigerians as usual will start crying and wondering how mike adenuga becomes so successful overnight without knowing how many sleepless nights and millions of dollars this man has invested up front.
well, it is not our fault, none of us is used to putting together long term vision or long term investment. for nigerians, it is all about how much they can get tonight.
This is why mike adenuga represents a magnificent sample for business students and young entrepreneurs to emulate. You can never do wrong when you follow the path of the guru himself.

Scribe of the Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA), Bola Orodele, has said that the competition which would be hosted by the university of Nigeria, Nsukka, in December, would not be postponed as effort are being made to ensure that sporting facilities and equipment are ready for the 22nd edition of the NUGA games.

Orodele told LEADERSHIP Sports that notable corporate organisations are sponsoring some facilities which he said would be ready for the game following the volume of work already done.

"The stadium is being sponsored by Mike Adenuga Junior to the tune of N600m. The swimming pool is ready and I think the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, is one of the luckiest institutions in terms of private sector support."
