Breaking News: Ibos And Hausas Are Killing Themselves In Aba!
« on: June 02, 2006, 12:05 PM »

Ibos and Hausas are killing themselves in Aba!

This is going on right now in Aba in Abia State of Nigeria.

I am receiving the reports from Aba by phonecalls.

I will continue later.

This is a state of emergency!

God have mercy.

Though tragic, this flare-up of violence between the Igbos and Hausas is hardly surprising, as the powerful undercurrent of mutual loathing between those two Nigerian tribes dates back to the Nigerian Civil war of the late 1960's, undiminished by the passage of 4 decades.

Any point of contact between large groups of these two historical foes requires but the smallest of sparks to ignite hellfire conflagrations, of which this Aba showdown is only the latest in a blood-soaked litany with no visible end in sight.

All we have to do is use the police to contain these people - tribalistic Nigerians - until they grow too old to cause trouble, and finally die.  Then the rest of us will have peace.  Till then, let's all be careful.  Cheers.

We are all in the hands of God! All these problems am sure arise from political sabottage. It's unfair that when such thing happens the poor masses will be the ones to go. I feel too sorry for this country of ours.

One of the solutions to this is that they should keep soldiers to roam the streets 24 hrs for a long time, because after the soldiers are gone fight comes back again. By keeping soldiers it has also help the condition in warri by putting them in different corners of town.

This news is not being covered on any Nigerian TV station i have access to.  I hope it's not serious or maybe something that happened in a small scale.

Phonecalls to Aba will confirm this report. But I will not go into the details to avoid sparking off reprisal attacks in the North.

Dude, with all due respect, there is something I never liked about u and the this report. U seem spooky enough and hopefully u just shut your mouth and log-off of this forum before u use this report hype of possible isolated incidences to inflame an already tense situation there in Nigeria. Am going back to Nigeria next week after five years, and this is the last porpaganda I would like to spread among the general population!!!!

Again, log-off and go home! u have been relieved Angry

Lord have Mercy! Not again please. I wonder when all these senseless killings will stop?. I believe in the coporate existence of this country, Nigeria. But do people have to pay with their lives for us to stay together? If dividing the country will bring peace among the different tribes then so be it.

Incredible!

Why not tell that to the CNN, BBC, Radio Nigeria and other news channels?

Reporting the news online is safer and will save more lives than let the news spread by word of mouth and public transport from Aba to Kano.

brother, no matter how it hurts, truth is better told than concealed. have thought of the possibility of reaching nigeria and walking striaght into a communal clash? i had walked into the miss world riots in 2002 b/c no one told me it was serious and i thot it was a joke till i saw a massive crowd of muslims approaching. and i was in a chattered taxi whose driver is a muslim( a good guy, thank God). find out the truth, don't debunk a statement just like that, especially when u are going to a place u've not been in 5yrs.

did u expect to hear such news from nta, or radio nigeria? put ur ears to the ground. anyway, i'm not saying it is true, but i'm not saying it is a lie either. just listen. and be careful while at home.

cheers

Sky News just reported a breaking news that a man has been shot in a British Police anti-terror raid in London (http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1223529,00.html). And the news will keep people informed. But in Nigeria, the lack of similar responsible news channels has done us more harm than good.

I will not give the details of the mayhem in Aba for security reasons. And for your information, this is not the first time I have reported such dangerous developments and this is not rumour. Even banks have been on strike in Aba, because of the reign of terror in the city.

We need news channels like the CNN and Sky in Nigeria.

The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Channels and AIT are lagging behind.
We can do better.

Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa with over 135 million people. But all our TV news channels cannot even measure up to the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

Nigeria deserves the best. Because only the best is good enough for us.

I am going to break all the boundaries and barriers of information.
You just wait and see.

This is really sad. An hour ago I was talking to someone in Aba who says it is all Armed Robery everywhere you look & no arrests are being made. I don't know if calling it "tribal violence" is a cover for the overall lawlessness now in Aba or what. . . Huh

Seun, I too, think that the older generations are the majority responsible for fueling tribalism. But "waiting for them to die" is something to look forward to only if we are sure that they have not infected the younger generations.

And are you sure the police aren't with them?

Again I think the trouble is the ineffectiveness of the police. The level of corruption and peace time (nonofficial war) violence that fuels this sort of thing.

As at present, I stand by my report 100%.

Those who said that they called Aba and their respondents did not confirm my report should tell their respondents to verify from the Ariaria Market in Aba what happened yesterday.

For security reasons I will not give the details, because innocent Ibos and Hausas lost their lives. And they died without even knowing why they were killed.

You can be in your comfort zones in Park View Estate in Ikoyi or in Victoria Garden City in Lekki and be totally ignorant of a bloody riot in nearby Obalende. And if someone in America calls you to find out if there was any riot in Lagos, you would be clueless.

Please, don't be naive.

Now, do you know how many Nigerian soldiers in the African Union (AU) Peace Keeping Force have been killed in Darfur, Sudan?

Please, try to be well informed on what is really going on in Nigeria and the rest of Africa.

How many of you know of the bloody gang wars going on in Lagos between the rival OPC Cults from Fadeyi to Mushin to Agege?

Our so called national newspapers have online editions. But they don't know how to manage their websites. The search engines don't index them very well. And they don't have active forums like Nairaland.

The Guardian of Nigeria publishes a very good Guardian Life magazine, but it is not available online.

We are in the 21st Century and this is the Information Age and the developed nations are not going to wait for the underdeveloped nations like Nigeria.
Nigeria is lagging behind. And we are all to blame.
How old is Google?
And we have some Nigerians claiming to be IT gurus and Whiz-Kids and they are just doing nothing more than making clones. And writing programmes that cannot do much for Nigeria in the highly competitive IT World.

Look at our newspapers looking like poor photocopies.
They cannot even print ordinary newspapers of high quality and they cannot even print up to one million copies in the most populous country in Africa.

We have over 20 million literate people in Nigeria and all the newspapers in Nigeria don't even circulate up to 500,000 copies?
And the Nigerians with access to the Internet are not even up to 3 million?

When we are reporting and addressing issues of paramount national interest, I expect you who should know better from your international exposure to even be the ones to enlighten us. But I am disappointed to see that your ignorance is even worse than the ignorance of the majority of Nigerians in Nigeria.

The foreign media will focus more on what bothers them.
When their interests in our oil are in danger. So, they are fast to report hostages being taken in the Niger Delta. But they never reported the invasion of Okrika by the combined forces of the Nigerian Army, Navy, Airforce and Police.

May God help us all to know the truth and to say it without fear of the wrath of the earth.
