Never Judge A Book By Its Cover

It is what it is
“Never judge a book by its cover”, that is what they say. Even “they” judge a book by its cover, its human nature! Two years back, I was asked to watch a music video titled “Omoge wa jo”, when asked my opinion about the song, I remember saying, “Nice song, but who the hell does the rapper think he is?” The rapper turned out to be Sauce kid a.k.a the samboribobo legend. As much as i tried to keep an open mind about him, I just couldn’t do it, the tattoos. You know the stereotype. Since “Yebariba Samboribo” hit the waves, I have to admit I loved the song on first listen, naija deejays played it at every parties, me and my girls rocked to it, even if you didn’t know the whole track, the chorus will still stick, YEBARIBA SAMBORIBOBO, !!! Everyone was feeling the song, I wasn’t feeling the artist, and what is he trying to do? Does he think he’s American?? He even looks arrogant! That was some of the thoughts I had about the artist.
Leeds 08 happened, one of my close friends DJ Chronic told me he was hosting Sauce kid, my thoughts exactly was “I hope it will be a decent show”, the words that came out of my mouth however was “ARE YOU SERIOUS”??? Whether i liked this guy or not, I have to support my friend; preparations started, helping out handing out fliers and the day of the show arrived, When called on stage, i kept thinking, ”here we go, he will do what he has to do and go back to his hotel room like a diva, let him just sing and lets go home”.Errrr, WRONG!!! The live performance was out of this world, the way he took time out to communicate with his audience, cracking jokes in between songs, bringing girls on stage to dance with him, the performance was LIVE!!! Not too bad I thought. The party was mad, my feet were aching at the end of the night, my voice was cracking, Backstage Sauce kid was busy taking pictures with his numerous fans, he partied with us for a while and as an artist, you would expect him to go back to his hotel room with a bunch of groupies right?? Wrong again!!! The organizers and few other people headed up to Diddy’s house, the girls were busy making pounded yam, the guys were chatting away, Sauce kid inclusive; while eating, he started a conversation, we started talking and after a few hours, I was ashamed of myself, the arrogant guy turned out to be down to earth, homeboy wasn’t faking his American accent like some people claimed, ridiculous sense of humor and still as focused as ever. After he left my little town, he kept in touch and as the day goes by, I realized that behind those Gucci shades which he claims it’s to block the haters (do I blame him?? I was once one of them) contrary to popular beliefs, he IS down to earth. Few days ago while I was talking to me, he referred me to some online threads which was dedicated to murdering Sauce kid and what he stands for, while reading some insulting comments, I laughed because I knew he was the exact opposite of what they were calling him. When asked to write this by the man himself, I told him I will give him a bit late, reason being that I was in Loughborough, Leicestershire, backing up my point, I’d been in Loughborough for a few days, the first night out, i wasn’t impressed, so the second night out, i sat down because i knew what i was expecting, thinking of how i would start writing this piece and watching people dance, all of a sudden, the beat to Remy Ma’s “Conceited” came on, i was like “HUH”?? i know its not Samboribobo, WRONG!! All of a sudden, all the black people got up and started dancing along while the ones that knew it sang along, it was like there was a damn church up in there, My point being, even in Loughborough, he’s still recognized! I can bet the man himself doesn’t know where Loughborough is, but like he’d say “nothing do me”,
To those that think he’s just a one hit wonder, think again, he’s going all the way to the top, he’s global, he’s international and he’s here to stay. To those that haven’t seen him perform live on stage, book a city near you and see for yourself. To the haters, keep hating, it keeps him even more focused so he can shame you. He’s like marmite, you either love him or hate him, he’s Sauce kid, Can’t nobody do it like hi

so i was glancing through this post and i still cannot see what sauce kid stands for.

i havent heard him say it, i havent heard his fans say it, and ms. abimbola here who mentons haters hasnt said it either.

listen, no one cares to know who sauce kid is personally, apparently thats what your article is focused on, i personally care to know what he stands for as an artist, and u don't mention it, and I'm sorry, his conflicting identity doesnt help that notion as well, the article states he doesnt fake american accent, how do u know that about someone u just met personally and talked to on the phone a few times? wow @ such brilliance

i can go on and on about this ridiculous groupie-influenced article but i'll just leave it at that to show how dumb some groupies can be without even realizing their level of groupieness, if u are writing an article about an artist, focus on him as an artist not on what u think about him personally

modenine is making doe from album sales of course!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not like other artistes but he ain't doing badly at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its difficult for a music style like that to win hearts in naija but he successfully got the attention of lots of peeps, both home and abroad.

You can take a survey, ask anyone that u know feels modenine and hear what they would tell u, his LYRICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Since when did nigerians begin to listen to lyrics? No be to shake yansh and dance all day den dey feel? Modenine broke tha jinx.

Saucekid can't dare try it. Not only him, even 2shots (the most commercial rapper i know in naija). i hope u know 2shots can also be a hardcore rapper. He's got nice metaphorical lyrics but u know what? he is scared, scared of not selling, that is why he switched to a style nigerians would relate with. Fore modenine to stick to his hardcore rap, get recognition for it, and plaques too, ladies and gentlemen, he deserves a standing ovation!!!!
