INTERCONTINENTAL BANK(IB PLC) HAS REDUCED SALARY BY 20% & ALSO CAN'T PAY UPFRONT SINCE JUNE BEGINNING. THE BANK HAS OVER TRADED THE STOCK MARKET AND AS SUCH CAN'T PAY UPFRONT DESPITE POSTING N45 BILLION PBT AND HAVING DEPOSIT BASE OF N1.07 TRILLION. WHAT DOES THIS PORTEND FOR THE BANKING INDUSTRY?I DOUBT IF CBN IS AWARE.WITH A MANAGED SHARE PRICE OF N43 AND FINAL DIVIDEND OF 45KOBO, INVESTORS AND DEPOSITORS/CUSTOMERS ALIKE SHOULD BE ON RED ALERT.IT IS LEFT FOR YOU ALL TO DECIDE.

when they were paying bogus salary we no hear o . Anyway this is just July, you said they stoped paying upfront since June? don't you think they want to meet up with their obligation to their shareholders? l think its too early to complain of the upfront for now. On the 20% cut, no comment. But me think the salaries most banks pay is not sustainable. Nevertheless, our banks are STRONG and getting STRONGER!!!

Intercontinental is one of the banks that is in trouble but will not publish it. Our Banks are not that strong and are overheated with competitions and expectations. when an organization cut staff's pay, it shows that they are experiencing turbulence. I'll be surprise if most banks don't start cutting staff and laying off. They bit more than they can chew. It was apparent that they could not sustain the salary and other promotions they undertook. Look at Zenith bank today. they keep downsizing. DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE COOKED BOOKS AND FAKE FINANCIAL STATEMENT THEY PRODUCE. Nigeria's economy is not that strong to sustain their claimed success. Even Solude said that one big bank in south Africa is bigger than all of Nigeria's banks put together.

@ Finecut, l concur with you to a level. But the only problem l see with our banks is their bogus salary, apart from that, l think our banks are strong. However, we can see a measure of correction to that effect - the cuts in salary!! l believe the early the start the cuts the better for them.
