even in the yoruba, igbo, hausa etc accents their are variations within the different tribes. For example in igbo tribes someone from Asaba in Delta state and Onitsha will both sound completely different. But even in the same city people will sound different. Alot of things make an accent. For instance here in UK some people have said the accent is sexy, u may or may not be thinking of the london/oxford/cambridge accent. Go to Birmingham/Manchester and u will spit at the person who opens their mouth to speak to u! lol I really do believe it has alot to do with tone of voice nd the way people speak more than anything. The Igbo's from where I am from sound wonderful (like music), but I can see why people will think other Igbo's accents may be hard on the ear. It all depends on alot of things really and truly. Even ask Americans there are differences in New york and texan accents but even amonst texans some accents will put u off (redneck hillbilly sounding), others will light u up (beyonce). Abeg Naija can sound really really nice or really really bad, class has something to do with it also (I am sorry to say - upbringin u know).

I like the Brit accent mostly on black guys, they don't sound stupid and ignorant like they do in The States.
and I didnt know my preference concerning accents is enough to cause such a damn uproar.

Please when last did you visit Nigeria? You are getting everything mixed up. By the way, who told you that Cockney(London) accent is sexy? Na wao, I suggest you watch East Enders so you can hear what indigenous Londoners sound like. Mind You, most people you see in London are not from London originally. I agree with you, Education, Social Class and Upbringing is one of the things that determines someones accent not just where they come from. Peace

Peace @Chimaze - don't mind me, it was a mistake (from rushing) my mum is from Asaba and my aunt from Onitsha, I have edited it I meant Igbo - I am half Igbo and my mum always makes fun of my auntie's accent - I last went to Naija March this year for my Grandpa's burial. But regularly visit Asaba. Anywayz I have lived in Hackney, I don't need to watch easteneders to hear what east londoners sound like and I have lived on outskirts of london, travelled all over England in fact. My point was there are so many different English accents and not all sound nice so the same is true of Nigeria. I don't see why someone will say the Nigerian accent is disgusting and British accent is sexy, therefore. Do you understand me now. Anywayz, even in east london there are differences betwen cockney and ghetto/street accents- mainly white people use cockney accents. The stereotypical accent people associate with England is the oxford/cambridge accent (and some parts of london-mostly upper class) - it is people on this site who say the English language is sexy, please read my post properly atleast I have corrected the yoruba-igbo mishap.
