this is so unfair to me because i cannot read yoruba but i'm yoruba. so i guess i'll just have to keep reading the english version but seriously i would love to compete but guess its disadvantaged to me.

agilinti ti nse ginniginni, iku apaa
amboatse opolo to fi ojojumo gbe ara re sanle

a cameleon that threads slowly eventually dies
not to mention the toad that hops around with much energy

meaning if an event has happened to people that are least expected, why should we be surprised if it happens to an expected person.

Having translated my last two proverbs, I flipped through all the previous pages and I feel more impressed than what I actually felt initially. But does it mean these are all the proverbs we have in yorubaland? No way, do not relent guys, I don't think this thread should die like this.
ok , I have promised myself to roll in a hundred conc yoruba proverbs which no one had sent in on this thread , ten at a time and one as a general challenge to every one as per ''pari owe yi''

Lets go

A. Olohun lo lohun , agbo isale lo ni ohu ohu
The owner is still the owner, the lower jaw is used to frequent movement
Meaning: Practice  makes a professional, the professional tends to  do it best

B. Olurogbo kii jo lasan , onilu re n be la le odo.
The water lilies does not dance to vague rhythm, it is certain the drummer lies low on the river bed
Meaning: For every success there is a significant backup,For every action , there is is a reaction

C. Atiranmu gangan ko seyin ekanan
The eloquence  of  the talking drum may not be achieved in the absence of the finger nails
Meaning: Same as above

D. San an laarin , aje ni mu ni pekoro
 Our focus and  foresight has a target, but success anxiety prompts for distractions along the route.  

E. Lowe lowe la n lulu agidigbo, ologbon lo n jo , omoran ni tumo re, ewe koko la fi se awo re, igi ganmu ganmu  la a fi i lu.Afoju ni lu, aditi ni i  le orin si.
The agidigbo drum (aka bata)  speaks proverbs, the wise dance to  it, the sages translates it. The cocoyam leave is the drum’s skin, the thorny sticks are used for the beatings.The blind beats , the deaf and dumb singsMeaning: Always pick wisdom out of life , remember out of mere statement a world shaking solution may be proffered.

F. Bi a ba dana loko, mojala  a sofofo nile
When the debris is burnt in the farm, the ashes residue comes to report at home
Meaning:Never see anything you do as secret, the output product reveals the secret later

G. Operekete n dagba, inu adamo n baje, a di baba tan inu n bi won.
The palm frond fetcher gets annoyed as the young palmtree grows taller.
Enemies are not happy seeing us being successful.

H. Kekere la a ti pekan iroko, to ba dagba tan apa ki ka mo
The branches of iroko tree are better prunned while young, as it will be difficult when fully grown

I. Bi ebiti o pa eku , a fi eyin fun eleyin
If the trap refuses to catch  the rat, then it should be capable of returning the palm fruit to the trap owner.
Meaning : If you can not make progress on a target, just leave it as you met it.

J. Agbalagba lo to oro fo, oba nla lo to eyin erin fon
The elders holds the mantle to speak wisdom, only the mighty kings blows the elephant tusk (ivory)
