I was very emotional, when I was writing this I hope it makes sense don't blame me, I am a plain old engineer! ====================================
Blind patriotism is wrong So also is absolute negativism
We all blame the white man for our woes We censure our leaders for all the problems in the nation We chastise our elders for our own short comings
It is time to do something right for our nation What have you done right lately for your country?
Abhor ethnicity. Being ethnocentric helps That’s the meaning of unity in diversity
Corruption is the genesis of our developmental woes Corruption does not have tribe or religion Corruption is evil Corruption is selfish Let us fight corruption
The future of this country belongs to the youth I am no longer a youth This country belongs to all the youth Not a northern or southern youth But a Nigerian youth
Don’t go the ways your parents went Blaming everybody apart from themselves
Stay positive Change the system, in your own little way Nigeria will be great Only if the youth will see the bigger picture
I still believe in this country! And this is not blind patriotism We all need to work at it For yourself, my children and your own children

@Skyblue, I think you have it all completely wrong there.
This is not a thread on how to make Nigeria a better place or how to solve Nigeria’s problems. This thread was started by a frustrated Nigerian looking to vent frustrations. Considering Nigeria’s history, we all have a right to vent our frustrations without being castigated for it by the “BLIND PATRIOT” band, the “MOUTH SERVICE” group or the “ALWAYS THINK POSITIVE THOUGHTS” band. If the goal is to have all Positive posts and nothing of the reality of things, then I say these bands should start by making a zombie of the Nigerian Media system which currently feeds the people with the news of how bad things are and how they ought to start panicking.

Oldie, you're quite right to an extent but it won't come that easy. How do you expect an infant to spoon-feed himself without showing him how to? The entrenched corruption is the major negative factor to our progress. I like your point of view tho'

if there's one thing Nigerians excel at, its complaining and negativity, for real.
The loudest whiners about Nigeria are the ones outside the country.
I'm also a Nigerian in Diaspora. I see it as a serious waste of time to continually whine about the country as if I receive money for doing so. maybe some do, but i don't.
Anyone who resides outside Nigeria and is fed up with Nigeria, SHOULD RENOUNCE THEIR NIGERIAN NATIONALITY.
That way you don't have to bother yourself with whatever is happening in Nigeria. Its not by force to be Nigerian abeg.
that's the way I see it.
all this whining is annoying.
una no dey Nigeria, una still dey complain. What of the ones who are actually living there- wetin you want make them do? They don't even gripe about the country as much as Nigerians in the so-called diaspora.
then you start crying whenever the western media repeats what you're saying. Make I hear word jare. I can't spend my own life fixating on the state of Nigeria. All I ask for is 40 acres and a mule and I'm good to go. If I go my village them go dash me that one. Even my mama village sef go dash me.
I'm not trying to compete with Bill gates and neither do I need 50 cars and 200 room mansions. shior.

Radiant is still on this planet? Corruption is the genesis of our developmental woes Which "corruption"? Our woes started in 1922, became an issue in 1960 and finally ended up being an albatross in 1966. There very little corruption then. The system is what makes corruption possible.

@Radiant Changing the norm has never been easy Especially the so called entrenched norms There are few powerful entrenched people who benefit from these abnormal situations They are a unique tribe. They are not Hausas, Ibos, Yorubas or the minorities They are from everywhere They are in the minority They hurt all of us, yourself, my children and all Nigerians The more we rationalise their actions, based on tribe and religion The more things will never work here And the more they prosper and the more we fight amongst ourselves Who looses? Yourself, myself and the entity called Nigeria We must start fighting this unique tribe now, for all our sakes! Our future can be redeemed by ourselves

there's no need to discuss this post, because Nigeria is a disaster of 140million people, i wonder when we would develop into that country all would be proud of, i don't think Nigeria can be run sucessfully, military,civilian,traditional,10 year plan, vision 2000,vision 2010,vision 2020,NEEDS,SEEDS, etc, etc, everything is just a waste of time, we should just pray to God to solve our problem once and for all

I can't make head or tail out of your rant. Here you are whining about Nigerians whining. We shouldn't complain because we live outside Nigeria,as if we don't have relatives back home.
I don't know where you got this idea that Nigerians back home don't complain as much as Nigerians living abroad. Some have even taken up arms.

How does prayer help us at this point? Our political thieves (err sorry leaders) are the ones who take the front pews at churches and are usually the first to buy their sallah rams.

If God would have to consider the number of religious leaders, followers, buildings and prayers we have in Nigeria, he would have made the damned country an extension of heaven. And if it is true he only listens to prayers of evil people; then he must be deaf for havent heard that of Nigerians.

As much as I feel like giving up on Nigeria, there's something inside of me that says change will definitely come no matter how long it takes. It's hard to still keep our fingers crossed but we have to. God can't solve our problem by just lifting a finger, he has to use people to accomplish His purpose. Don't be too irrational. Oldie, I get you tho' the Government has a huge role to play also.

all of my grandparents lived to well over 80 years. They were farmers living in the village. On the other hand, many of my relatively wealthy and educated relatives died before they were 70. Go figure. Sometimes its all about attitude. too much complaining can even affect your health. Releasing a bunch of stressful hormones into your bloodstream.

the problem with Nigeria is colonisation - intellectual colonisation. we are intelligent yet ineffective, Theoritcal not practical. those who believe you need chains and weapons to enslave people have never heard of Nigeria. We are slaves to ourselves, goddamn traditions, false pretense religion and every stupid thing capable of giving us false hope. faith without works is useless, so is prayer without action. I wonder why God made man in His likeness, if He also had to run our government.

Sometimes it all about attitude?Tell that to the thousands of Nigerians who have died because they couldn't afford basic medical care.Just look at the high rates of infant mortality, maybe some of those infants had attitude problems. Too much complaining can affect your health? Presumably, bottling our emotions inside is very helpful to our health.

Nigeria isnt the only country with children in dire need of healthcare. Neither is Nigeria the only country with negativity. Just today, here's a report on some kenyan kids: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080624/ap_on_re_af/kenya_children_in_crossfireNow, please show me a kenyan site where kenyans are cursing and abusing their country the way Nigerians do theirs. another example from Ghana: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7115662.stm- is this http://www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/diaspora/artikel.php?ID=141505http://www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/diaspora/artikel.php?ID=141505&comment=0#comabeg if una no like Nigeria renounce your citizenship. Why not strive for better, rather than comforting self in the idea that we are not the worst??

the 40 acres and a mule are my own idea of how to cope with the Nigerian situation. it may work for me, but not for you. if you're too disgusted by the country I 've made my own suggestion. Of course people should complain, but complaining all the time every single minute of the day, is irritating. Nigeria no good, Nigeria no good, are you saying you're also no good, since its still Nigeria that produced you. Or are you a miracle that came out of no-good Nigeria. abeg I'm out jo.
